4 History From the beginnings to the present day History WEICON TOOLS In 1967 an electrical engineer from Westphalia invented a Cable Stripper for stripping electrical cables. The inventor was looking for a sales channel for his knives and started a cooperation with Gerd Weidling, Managing Director of the company Weidling & Sohn; the current WEICON GmbH & Co. KG from Münster. Launch at the Hannover Trade Fair 1967 The two managing directors took some hand samples of the knives to the Hannover Trade Fair to present them to trade visitors. With these individual pieces, both partners immediately managed to acquire orders for more than 3000 Cable Strippers during the course of the exhibition. The tool manufacturer took over production and WEICON developed the global sales channels for the Cable Strippers during the subsequent period. Impressive growth rates Turnover grew continuously. Almost 4000 Cable Strippers were sold in In the next year, 1968, sales already reached more than 34,000 units. In the year 1969 the first wire stripper, No. 8., was added to the range and was sold more than 51,000 times straightaway. The sales figures grew continually in the following years and in 1987 the turnover reached more than 300,000 knives and 100,000 strippers per year. The successful cooperation between the two companies lasted 20 years in total. In 1987 the patents for the knives expired and, as a result, replica products from Asia and Italy entered the market. After expiry of the patents, the former partners went separate ways and WEICON started a cooperation in the tool sector with the company Franz Krampe from Ascheberg-Herbern, which still continues today. This cooperation is distinguished by innovations in the area of tool technology, has resulted in numerous patents and awards for the products and always allows new ideas and further developments to be incorporated in new tools. WEICON tools are now known throughout the world thanks to the good cooperation between WEICON and the company Krampe. The range of tools now covers more than 25 different types of cable strippers, wire strippers and special tools, which provide a valuable service to users throughout the world in their daily work. 4

6 Cable Strippers Quality "Made in Germany" WEICON and Krampe We have been working on the development and manufacture of our high quality stripping tools together with the company Krampe from Ascheberg-Herbern near Münster since The Westphalian family business, managed by the second generation of the Krampe family, greatly values continuity, reliability and the highest quality. The products are fully manufactured on-site, going against the trend of globalisation. Everything from a single source From the idea, initial drafts and drawings, sampling, tests and mould construction through to production, final assembly and quality testing - everything comes from one source. "This is the only way we can guarantee the consistently high quality of out tools," says company founder Franz Krampe. And he is supported by a team of highly qualified specialists. "We are very pleased to have had a very reliable and innovative partner in the company Krampe for many years. We are planning to intensify our past cooperation in future to further strengthen and develop our market position," says Ralph Weidling, Managing Director of WEICON GmbH & Co. KG. In 1990 we started the cooperation with wire stripper No. 5, which today still represents an important component of the constantly expanded product range of our WEICONTOOLS. Developments from the company Krampe are always up-todate with the current status of technology and quickly track down trends that provide the decisive ideas for the design of new tools. 6

The cutting depth of the blade can be progressively adjusted with the help of an adjusting wheel in the housing. This prevents damage to the conductor inside.
