You can activate a page simply by clicking the page s heading (see pictures 13 and 14). Picture 14. Commander s Configuration Display page s headings. The INE1x3 Encoder has the following configuration display pages that are introduced in this document: - Status - Properties - Module - Video - MPEG - Data - ATM - IP Config - SNMP The information on configuration sheets is shown in data fields or boxes. You can change settings in data fields or boxes whose background is white. Place your cursor in the desired data field or box and enter the new setting. Some settings are entered by ticking a checkbox or clicking on a radio button, by selecting from a pull-down list or by scrolling digits with the help of spin buttons. When you have entered a new setting, the Apply button is activated -->. By clicking Apply you verify the new settings and they will be sent to the unit. If these settings are legal, they become valid immediately and the Apply button turns inactive -->. By clicking Cancel you can restore the original settings. Note that you can change several settings before clicking Apply. If you entered settings with the help of spin buttons, the Apply command is not needed. If a data field or box has a grey background, it contains read-only information that cannot be edited. Red, yellow and green backgrounds of data fields or boxes indicate alarms, warnings and notifications related to the settings or values in them. INE1x3 Series User Manual rev001 11

The new settings are saved in the non-volatile memory of the configured unit. In this way they will be maintained even if the power is lost temporarily. When you have finished editing, check that the configured units are not indicating any warnings or alarms. For more information about alarms and warnings, please see the Status Page. For more detailed instructions about how to use CATVisor TM Commander, please refer to its User Manual. Note! 15 Status Page Picture 12. Commander s Status page view. The Status Page lists information messages about the unit s present status. The EASI TM Configurer divides these messages into three different categories according to severity and uses Status Flags to make them more noticeable: - Alarm messages are indicated with red flag. - Warning messages are indicated with yellow flag. - Notifications are indicated with green flag. Status Flags and the corresponding text labels appears in the Status field. A short description of the event can be read in the Description field. You can also hide warnings and/or notifications by ticking the corresponding checkboxes. Alarms cannot be hidden. The Apply command is not needed to verify these commands. INE1x3 Series User Manual rev001 13

Messages are divided into four groups: - Alarms concerning BIOS. - Alarms concerning application. - Warnings concerning application. - Notifications concerning application. Alarm In case the unit senses an alarm a red Alarm flag appears in the Commander s Element Directory Window. The description of this alarm can be read from the Commander s Status Page. At the same time a green M led indicator in the unit s front panel turns to yellow. Warning Usually a yellow Warning flag in the Commander s Element Directory Window indicates that there is something wrong with the configuration. Notification A Notification flags in the Commander s Status Page indicates informative value only. 14 INE1x3 Series User Manual rev001

Properties Page Picture 13. Commander s Properties page view. The Properties page displays information of the unit s hardware and software.the unit s name which you can see on the Element Tree Window and Element Window can be set on this page. INE1x3 Series User Manual rev001 15

Module Page Picture 14. Commander s Module page view. The Module page is only enabled when configuring standalone versions (e.g. INE2x3 or INE2x2) of EASI TM MPEG-2 Encoders. DVXBus frame This address consists of a rack address and a slot address. It s hexadecimal type is 0xRRSS where RR means rack and SS is slot number. If the unit is connected together with other DVX units this address must be set to be unique. After every change a reset is needed to apply the new address. Module Temperature This frame shows the temperature of the unit and allows the setting of the limits when the FAN switches on and off. All changes in settings shall be confirmed by pressing. 16 INE1x3 Series User Manual rev001

Video Page Picture 15. Commander s Video page view. On the Video page you can configure the physical camera interface. Video Format The Encoder has support PAL and NTSC video standards. This setting should match with the video connected to the input of the Encoder. Video Source The Encoder has two alternate video inputs: - Composite sets the BNC connector as an input source. - S-Video sets the the mini-din connector as an input source. Video Signal - indicator Text OK on a green background indicates that the Video Format and Video Source are set correctly and that the Encoder receives a correct video signal. Text FAILED on a red background indicates a failure in video reception. In this case check the video source and all connections and match the above Source & Format selections according to the incoming video. Also the Encoder s front panel led marked V indicates the status of the video signal. Green indicates OK and yellow for failure. All changes in settings shall be confirmed by pressing. INE1x3 Series User Manual rev001 17

MPEG Page Picture 16. Commander s MPEG page view. The MPEG page is used for configuring MPEG compression parameters. In MPEG compression PID stands for Program Identifier and PMT is Program Map Table. PID is an individual identifier for separate MPEG data streams and therefore the audio, video and PMT. PIDs should always have different values. PMT is a table containing a list of streams and appropriate PIDs. PID settings frame PIDs can be set between It is recommended to include the PCR into video stream by selecting the same value for both PCR PID and video PID. GOP Structure frame GOP (Group of Pictures) structure is a sequence of different picture types sent in specified order by the Encoder. This selection has an effect on both latency and bandwidth. Lowest latency combined with largest bandwidth is achieved by IIIII frames. Smallest bandwidth and longest latency come with IBBPBBPBBP selection. IPPPPPPPP represents not so large bandwith with quite small latency and IBPBPBPBP represents not so long latency and quite small bandwidth. 18 INE1x3 Series User Manual rev001

Stream Speed frame This selection allows you to limit the maximum encoded bitrate. It becomes worthy when designing and managing large networks with limited bandwidth. This value is a tradeoff between bandwidth and sharpness of the moving objects in the video. The higher the value, the sharper are moving details. In surveillance applications setting 6.75 Mbps gives an excellent picture in most cases. This value together with enabled RS -data channels determines the ATM bandwidth required by one Encoder unit. Enable MPEG Encoding checkbox When this box is ticked the Encoder is enabled and functional. By disabling the Encoder you can shut down the video bitstream. This selection stops only the video/audio bitstream. All data channels and return audio are still in normal use. All changes in settings shall be confirmed by pressing. INE1x3 Series User Manual rev001 19

Data Page Picture 17. Commander s Data page view. The Data page is used to enable and configure both two supported RS data channels individually. In order to operate over ATM each data channel must have similar configuration at both ends. The VP/VC settings for all of these channels are located on the ATM page. Data Channel frames 1 & 2 User selectable RS modes are RS232, RS422, RS485 half duplex and RS485 full duplex (4-wire). For correct wiring refer to attachment A. User selectable baudrates for each channel are 2400, 4800, 9600, 14400, 19200, and Alternatives for number of databits is 8 and 9. Alternatives for number of stopbits is 1 and 2. If the channel is not in use, it should be disabled. This can be done by removing the tick from the Enable checkbox. All changes in settings shall be confirmed by pressing. 20 INE1x3 Series User Manual rev001

ATM Page Picture 18. Commander s ATM page view. The ATM page displays ATM/SDH (Asychronous Transfer Mode / Synchronous Digital Hierarchy) connection status and allows you to set all necessary VPI s and VCI s. VPI is the Virtual Path Identifier. VCI is the Virtual Channel Identifier. VPI is selectable between and VCI between These values compose a pair and it is not allowed to have two similar identifier pairs for different streams in one network. Transport stream frame Transport stream is the MPEG-2 compressed stream that consists of encoded video and audio. Return audio frame This is the dual audio channel received via ATM port. Data channel frames 1 & 2 The two RS data channels are all individual and can be routed independently through the ATM network. Loopback enable checkbox When this box is ticked all incoming ATM cells are forwarded to the next device in the network. Even those cells received by the Encoder itself are copied forward. This allows Encoder daisychaining and full utilisation of STM-1 capacity. INE1x3 Series User Manual rev001 21

TS Filter checkbox Because of the ability to loop forward the ATM stream it is possible that the cells once sent are returning back to the transmitting unit. In order to prevent those cells to start another round in the network they are discarded. This box is a reminder of the automatic cell deleting that takes place in every Encoder. This feature is not user controllable. Data Filter checkboxes When theses boxes are ticked the bi-directional data channels are not forwarded at the ATM level. If this box is clear the data channels are considered to be broadcast type and they are not only picked up by this unit but also are passed forward to the next device in the ATM network. When using data broadcasting and there are more than one terminal unit connected please note that only one of them is allowed to answer at a time. Multiple answers will cause a conflict at the master device of the RS data network. Stream Rate frame This frame indicates the transmitted and received ATM bitrate in kbps. AU-4 Pointer checkbox For SDH network operation the AU-4 pointer can be enabled or disabled. The default setting is disabled (Sonet operation). SDH frame This frame displays the following flags: LOS = Loss of Signal The LOS alarm indicates that there are no transitions occurring in the signal received by the network element. LOF = Loss of Frame The receiver raises the LOF alarm when an OOF condition persists for 3 ms or longer. It clears the alarm when it receives a valid signal for 3 ms. 22 INE1x3 Series User Manual rev001

OOF = Out of Frame An OOF alarm occurs when one or more bit errors in each framing pattern are detected for four consecutive frames. LOP = Loss of Pointer A network element transmits a LOP alarm downstream when it receives 8 consecutive frames containing an invalid pointer, or 8 consecutive New Data Flags (NDF s other than in a concatenation indicator ). AIS-L = Alarm Indication Signal-Line RDI-L = Remote Defect Indicator-Line AIS-P = Alarm Indication Signal-Path RDI-P = Remote Defect Indicator-Path Alarm Indication Signals and Remote Defect Indicators are mechanisms used to report network faults. Clock Rec. This flag indicates if the clock recovered from the incoming stream is close enough to the frequency of the reference oscillator. All changes in settings shall be confirmed by pressing. 26 IP-Config Page ATM Interface settings Ethernet Interface settings IP-PVC Mapping IP Route settings Picture 19. Commander s IP-Config page view. The IP-Config page of the Configuration Display includes all controls and settings for IP related parameters. There are two addressable ports, the ATM interface and the User Ethernet Port. The IP-Config page is divided into three parts, Interfaces, IP-PVC mapping and IP routes. Interfaces INE1x3 Encoder configuration pages are also accessible over the ATM network via In-Band Management. This feature allows user to configure and monitor all Encoders and Decoders connected to the same network from one location. Before the remote management can be taken into use, the IP parameters of the interfaces have to be configured using the local management connection through the DVX bus. The device IP address used for remote management connection is the same as the ATM port IP address. There are two configurable VPI/VCI pairs for incoming Ethernet traffic. One is reserved for the In-Band Management and the other for incoming IP traffic to the Ethernet interface. The encoder unit listens to both of these pairs set in this window and routes IP traffic accordingly. The In-Band Management channel in the ATM domain is set by default to VPI (255) / VCI (32). All changes in settings shall be confirmed by pressing. 24 INE1x3 Series User Manual rev001

How to modify ATM Interface Picture 20. Commander s Modify (ATM) Interface view. Select the ATM interface from the interface list (see picture 19) and click to. The Modify Interface window (picture 20) appears on the screen. Set required values to IP address, Subnet mask and hardware address fields and click to continue. The two first fields in hardware address section define VP/VC for the In-Band Management (Default value 255/32) and the two latter ones the VP/VC for incoming IP traffic to Ethernet Interface. Enable the ATM interface by ticking the checkbox Enabled. How to modify Ethernet Interface Picture 21. Commander s Modify (Ethernet) Interface view. Select the Ethernet interface from the Interface list (see picture 19) and click to mod. The Modify Interface window (picture 21) appears on the screen. Set required values to IP address and Subnet mask fields and click to continue. Enable the Ethernet interface by ticking the checkbox Enabled. eth0 phy pull down list User selectable modes for link speed and duplex abilities of User Ethernet Port are: 10Base-T half duplex, 10Base-T full duplex, 100Base-T half duplex, 100Base-T full duplex and autonegotiate. Auto-negotiation is targeted at ports, which are allocated to areas where transient users or devices connect to a network. LLC SNAP/CRC32 tickbox Selecting LLC SNAP/CRC32 tick box inserts LLC (Logical Link Control) and SNAP (SubNetwork Attachment Point) headers. This allows multiplexing of multiple protocols over a single ATM virtual connection according to RFC2684. In addition the calculated CRC32 checksum is inserted. Note! The CRC is not used unless the LLC SNAP/CRC32 tickbox is selected. Inband PVC-mask tickbox Inband PVC-mask has impact only on the In-Band Management channel settings. This tickbox should not be checked, when factory default channel is used. When Inband PVC-mask is selected, the second field of the ATM interface IP address defines the VCI for In-Band Management instead of the HW address. Example. The IP address of the ATM Interface is and the Hardware address is 255/32/10/20, hence the In-Band Management channel is VPI(255)/VCI(32). When Inband PVC-mask is activated, the VCI of the In-Band Management channel is reconfigured to 15. INE1x3 Series User Manual rev001 25

IP-PVC Mapping Picture 22. Commander s IP-PVC view. Picture 23. Commander s Add/Modify IP Route view. With the use of IP-PVC mapping, the IP traffic targeted to different destination networks can be mapped onto Subnet specific VPI/VCI before entering the ATM domain. 30 CONSTRUCTING EASI TM NETWORKS Concatenating Encoders and Decoders Concatenating is used to fully utilise the STM-1 capacity. The ATM bitrate output from one Encoder can vary between 3,4 Mbps 18 Mbps, which leaves available capacity for other services when inserted into 155 Mbps STM-1 data stream. This gap can be filled by daisy-chaining several Encoders in the same ATM loop. Recommendations for concatenating is max. twenty (20) devices (Encoders, Decoders or mixture of both) per one STM-1/OC-3 loop. The maximum calculated bitrate for all services (note also all return audio and data channels) together should not exceed 120 Mbps in one loop. Data broadcasting Data broadcasting can be used in special applications.
