2 Another Great Year! Thank You! What another great year for us here at MTCO Communications! We have accomplished many goals that we set out to do this year, welcomed many new customers into our MTCO family and implemented new services for all to enjoy. It s been a long and interesting road since 1945 which were the first days of Metamora Telephone Company. That is when Ray Rauh purchased the telephone company from the Sommer family. The company worked hard to provide rural telephone service to customers, and we always strived to bring the best possible service that technology allowed at the time throughout all of these years. We are blessed to still be serving our community today as we now provide voice, Internet and television services. This year we celebrated our 70th year in business with the 3rd generation of the Rauh family members operating the business. Actually, we have new family employees making it a 4th generation of workers. Of course, we are proud to have such a fantastic loyal group of employees that have been here for many years. These employees have allowed us to provide the best service to customers, and be part of the community we serve. Without them, MTCO would not be the company it is today and will be tomorrow. The future still holds bright for us in this competitive world of telecommunications, and we look forward to continuing our presence in the community. MTCO wishes you a Merry Christmas, and we look forward to another great New Year! On The Cover Rejuvanating Main Street in Marseilles with a little facelift to one of the older buildings. This project is spearheaded by Bobaluk s Properties and the Kaminski family. They plan to have a big store front with apartments in the upper levels. 6 In Our Community Holiday Magic Holiday Magic in Marseilles will be held on Saturday, December 5, Santa and Mrs. Claus will make a stop by way of a lighted Holiday Parade starting at 6:00 p.m. at Illinois Valley Cellular. The parade route runs north on Main St. to Washington St., east on Washington St. to Broadway St., west on Broadway St. to Main St., North on Main St. and ending at Labor Local #393. Santa and Mrs. Claus will visit with everyone at the Labor Hall until 8:00 p.m. Food and baked goods will be available for purchase and the local Boy Scouts will be serving beverages. Several crafters will be on hand for your Christmas shopping. There will also be Christmas make-and-take crafts and cookie decorating! Stop by for a joyous evening and bring your camera and say hello to Santa and Mrs. Claus. If you are interested in having a parade entry, please call Kathy at Local Cookie Drive Trinity Lutheran Church in Marseilles will be sponsoring a Cookie Drive. Cookies will be packaged and distributed to patients of local nuring homes, the Veterans Hospital in LaSalle, Youth Detention Home, P.A.D.S in Ottawa, Under His Wings, Servant s Heart, Lamb s Fold, and the National Guard Unit in Marseilles. Trinity Lutheran Church needs approximately 6,000 to 10,000 cookies. Cookies may be delivered to the church on Sunday, November 29th, or brought the day of the cookie packing on Wednesday, December 2nd. Cookies in Marseilles can be picked up if needed. Call the church office at or Betty Ball at Cookies will be counted and packed on Wednesday, December 2nd starting at 10:00 a.m. To speed up the operation, please count your cookies and record the exact amount on the outside of the container. Bring your friends to help with packing as all help is greatly appreciated and a luncheon will be served. Please note that the cookies cannot contain fruit or nuts. These items present health hazards to some residents. Please label any diabetic cookies. These cookies are the only cookies, and often the only Christmas gifts that are brought to these people at Christmas. This is a non-denominational project helping to spread the love of Christmas! Cookie Walk The United Methodist Women of Crossroad Methodist Church will be holding a Cookie Walk on Saturday, December 5th from 9:00 a.m to 12:00 p.m. There will be delicious cookies, candies, baked goods, and craft items for sale. The proceeds will fund local missions as well as national missions. Some of the missions include collecting Box Tops for Education for Cunningham Children s Home, postage stamps for Stamps for Mission, collecting old cell phones to be used for 911 calls in domestic violence homes, after-school programs, and local school backpack projects. Other missions in the United States and foreign countries provide women and children with education, clothing, food, clean water, and medical care.
