2 About The Arts House Occupying the almost 200-year-old building that was Singapore s first Parliament House, The Arts House has played an active role in the Singapore arts and creative scene. The House promotes and presents multi-disciplinary programmes and festivals such as literary arts, film, performing and visual arts. 3 Venue Hire The Arts House the oldest public building still standing in Singapore. Combining rich historical value with charming spaces, The Arts House is the ideal venue for your events. Gallery I The exposed brick entrance into Gallery II is possibly the oldest feature of the Old Parliament House. These walls were treated with stucco or Madras Chunam plaster made from shell lime, egg white, coarse sugar and water soaked with coconut husks for 24 hours. The surfaces still endure to this day, and are so hard that nails cannot be knocked through. This unique space is best used for exhibitions and cocktails. Gallery I Gallery II Gallery II, in true Tuscan architecture, features high ceilings held up by tall columns and enriched by simple trimmings in its cornices. This open visual arts space is the perfect venue for exhibitions, talks, corporate receptions and product launches. Gallery II

4 10am 10pm Level 2 Free The Parliament in Singapore History The Arts House is presenting a fresh narrative of the varied career path of its building. This new narrative display charts the history of The Arts House from 1827 to View the story of a house that has witnessed the birth of a nation as well as the development of a legislature that has contributed to Singapore s growth and progress as a multi-racial parliamentary democracy. Through rare archival images and spoken words of pioneer Parliamentarians such as Singapore's founding Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew, Dr Goh Keng Swee and Mr S Rajaratnam, the exhibition captures the spirit of our nation-building journey. Interactive guided tours Guided tours of the exhibition are available from 24 March to 29 May The complimentary tours are on a first-come-first-served basis, no registration is required. 5 Applications open from 1 April to 31 May 2016 Young Critics Mentorship Programme The Arts House launches a new mentorship programme which aims to develop and nurture the next generation of reviewers and arts critics. This 12-month long mentorship will focus on writing book reviews and critical essays. Three selected mentees will be paired with established critics and writers. The mentorship is open to aspiring critics aged 18 and above. Applications close on 31 May Selected mentees will be notified in June For application details, please visit theartshouse.sg. Various Timings Living Room $250 for 10 sessions Course fees include materials for bookbinding session. 10% discount for Silver Writing alumni Silver Writing: Writing My Memoir a workshop series for seniors returns for a third season after two successful runs. 12 April 7 June Silver Writing: Writing My Memoir In 10 weeks, participants can explore, in depth, their many life adventures and chronicle these stories in a final project that will be publicly showcased. The workshops are facilitated by Thomas Kuan and a session will include guest, published author and winner of Singapore Literature Prize (Non-Fiction, 2014), Josephine Chia.

6 11am 1pm Blue Room Free Conducted in Malay Cita Seni will showcase almost two dozen sketches by poet and artist, Suraidi Sipan. Hear how this multitalented artist balances his passion for sketching and poetry as well as his observations on the link between poets and painters. 16 April Cita Seni The World of Sketches: Poets and Painters at Work Suraidi Sipan is a former teacher, editor of Malay literary journals and two-time recipient of the Malay literary award, Anugerah Persuratan. Director of the National Islamic Museum in Tehran, Dr Jila Moghimnejad, will revisit the famous Chinese blue-and-white ceramics presented by Shah Abbas (1611) to the Ardebil Shrine in Northwestern Iran.
