2 The Great Barn Opera Vera and Hillingdon Council present La Boheme Sunday 26 and Monday 27 August at 6pm Professional company Opera Vera is back performing quality opera with their production of Puccini s La Boheme the tale of love between a poet and a seamstress in 19th century Paris. These performances take place inside Manor Farm s 700 year old Great Barn. Cost: 16 Hans, The Witch and The Gobbin Saturday 1 September at 11am and 3pm celebrates 50 years since its opening, with a revival of the first-ever play staged there. Written by Alan Cullen, this is a charming, quirky and funny play for children, with three acts performed by volunteers for the next generation of Compass theatregoers to enjoy. Recommended for five-year-olds and over. Cost: 6.50 Winston Churchill Theatre Ruislip Lions present The Last Night of the Proms Saturday 1 September at 7.30pm Ruislip Lions return with their popular charity concert, The Last Night of the Proms. The concert brings together the award-winning Friary Guildford Band and professional vocal soloist Ruth Fortey to provide a fun-filled evening of musical entertainment all finished off with the traditional Last Night of the Proms songs and lots of flag-waving. Designed by Abraham Price and produced by the Blue Wallpaper Warehouse in London, its Chinoiserie pattern highlights the importance of trade in relation to British design history. 4 Winston Churchill Theatre Friends of Ickenham Hall presents Comedy Compass Sundays on 9 September, 14 October and 11 November at 8pm Previous Comedy Compass comedians include Robert White, runner up on Britain s Got Talent 2018 and two Edinburgh Fringe Award nominees all before they rose to stardom! More stars of the future will be performing from September in this great value monthly comedy night, compered by Lewis Bryan. Cost: Free, no booking required Manor Farm Manor Farm History Weekend Saturday 15 and Sunday 16 September, 10am to 4.30pm As part of the National Trust s Heritage Open Days, the Manor Farm site in Ruislip welcomes families to a weekend of activities celebrating the Tudors. On Saturday, there are Tudor-themed children s craft workshops in the Stables and on Sunday there s historical live music and dancing, a living history camp held with Shakespearean travelling players performing on stage, with writing sessions, weapon display and sword school. 5 Stars at Knight presents School of Drama Autumn term from 15 September to 8 December Weekly classes where 5 to 18 year olds can gain confidence in fun and sociable sessions, while learning stagecraft, voice projection, mime and improvisation. 6 Tracy Borman: The King s Witch Tuesday 25 September at 7.30pm Tracy Borman returns to Hillingdon to talk about her debut novel The King s Witch. Tracy has captivated audiences with talks on her non-fiction books and has proved herself as a professional historian, she now shares her skills as a born storyteller. 7 Victoria and Abdul Thursday 27 September at 7.30pm In her book Victoria and Abdul: The True Story of the Queen s Closest Confidant, author Shrabani Basu looks at the unusual friendship between Queen Victoria and her Indian servant, Abdul Karim, which caused a storm in the Royal Court. The book was recently adapted to a critically-acclaimed film with Oscar-winning Judi Dench.
