1 APRIL 2013 F You Won t Want to Miss this Delightful Look at Big Business rom the award-winning authors of Guys and Dolls comes one of the most delightful musicals of all time. Set in the same era in which the television show Mad Men takes place, How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, shines a satirical light on big business and all it holds sacred. With nothing but his little black handbook to guide him, J. Pierrepont Finch sets out to climb the corporate ladder from lowly window washer to high-powered executive. Every step along the way brings unexpected and laugh-filled challenges; from the boss s whiny nepotistic nephew to backstabbing co-workers. Throw in a steno pool sweetheart, a company party and the resident tart with a heart and it s anything but just another day at the office. Director/Choreographer Jay Berkow (The Drowsy Chaperone, Jekyll & Hyde, A New Brain) and Musical Director Cynthia Hunter (The Drowsy Chaperone, Ragtime, the Musical) lead a talented cast, which includes Civic veterans Roland Bissonnette (Home on the Mornin Train, Our Town), Keith Erik Brown (The Imaginary Invalid, All Shook Up), Adam Carey (The Imaginary Invalid, The Musical Comedy Murders of 1940), Christie Lee Coleman (Ain t Misbehavin, A New Brain), Kelly Dominique (The Imaginary Invalid, All Shook Up), Angela Gatzke (Legally Blonde, the Musical), Tony Holewinski (The Imaginary Invalid, The Musical Comedy Murders of 1940), Music and Lyrics by Frank Loesser Book by Abe Burrows, Jack Weinstock & Willie Gilbert, based on the book by Shepherd Mead May 3 May 19 CIVIC AUDITORIUM MUSICAL COMEDY Friday May 3 8:00pm Saturday May 4 8:00pm Thursday May 9 7:30pm Friday May 10 8:00pm Saturday May 11 8:00pm Sunday May 12 2:00pm Friday May 17 8:00pm Saturday May 18 8:00pm Sunday May 19 2:00pm ASL Interpreted performance production sponsors: Jennifer Hudson-Prenkert (Dirty Rotten Scoundrels), Lou Irwin, Jr. (Ragtime, the Musical, Little Women, the Musical), Atis Kleinbergs (Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, Camelot), Kasady Kwiatkowska (Legally Blonde, the Musical), Phillip M. We launched the Academy last summer providing educational opportunities in the areas of performance and technical theatre for students between the ages of 3 and 103. The newly created classes for 3-5 year-olds were a big hit as were the adult and senior class offerings. I m happy to tell you that the Academy continues to grow as it enters into its second year. Beginning with the upcoming summer session we will be adding drop-in classes and we are offering a summer sampler series for those ages 16 and up. You can take all five classes that make up the series or just the ones that are of particular interest. If you have ever thought about dipping your toe into our educational pool, but haven t tried it, now is the perfect time. Classes are a great way to improve your skills at acting or singing, but they are also a great way to discover new things about yourself. The skills you gain in these classes can be applied to all aspects of your life. Whether you re young or young at heart, our academy offers a lifetime of learning. And the best part about it is that it is fun. The summer session catalog is now available. If you haven t yet received a copy and would like one, simply give the business office a call and we ll be happy to put one in the mail for you. Or you can go directly to our website and click on the education tab to view the catalog online. Financial aid is available for all class/camp sessions, regardless of age. So don t let money stop you from doing something fun this summer. Kristen Chesak Managing Director We may be nearing the end of our season, but we have a few more terrific shows in store for you. If you haven t had a chance to see Broadway Bound, there are a couple of performances left and you won t want to miss this delightful, moving production. Our Youth Theatre has one more production this season a great retelling of Robin Hood, and the Senior Class Reader s Theatre will be finishing up their season with the Kaufman and Hart comedy, The Man Who Came to Dinner. Never has an unwanted houseguest been good for so many laughs. And of course our season would not be complete without a closing musical. This season we are very pleased to be bringing you How to Succeed in Business without Really Trying. Written by the same folks who brought us Guys and Dolls, this charming show about a window washer who uses a popular self-help instructional book to climb the corporate ladder, is sure to keep you laughing. In case you haven t heard, we have a terrific season lined up for you next year. We ll be opening our 85th Anniversary season in September with the worldwide phenomenon, Les Misérables. And the rest of the season is just as exciting. Subscriptions will be available in May, so you ll want to be thinking about which shows you want to see and what you re going to do with all the money you ll save by purchasing a subscription! Until then, I look forward to seeing you at the theatre!
