2 DEAR FRIENDS, It has been my hope since the Festival was founded in to present West Side Story, one of the five mega-masterpieces of the American Lyric Stage, in the way it was envisioned by Leonard Bernstein. He imagined it with a philharmonic sound in the pit and the finest dancers, actors and musicians the culmination of the best of everything in the art form of American Musical Theatre. fortune to visit the Winter Garden Theatre in New York City between September,, and June,, it is very unlikely. Until now. Here s another question: How do you justify hiring 0 world-class dancers and 0 instrumentalists for just one of six shows performed in repertory? You can t. You imaginate about how to use these amazing performers to their full extent without killing them off. So we looked to Walt Disney. What is his all-time favorite musical? Mary Poppins. What Disney film was made into a Broadway musical that took the world by storm in? Newsies! Our glorious orchestra will bring to life the genius of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.
