You will be taking 4 one-hour classes each day - 2 in the morning and 2 in the afternoon. Once you sign up for your classes, you will stick with those same classes during the week of camp so that you have a chance to progress. Classes will end with an exciting final showcase on the last day, which family and friends are invited to attend. Jam Camp provides a great opportunity to take advantage of classes you might not normally get the chance to participate in. We encourage everyone to try new things they may never had done before. Think outside the box! All classes are 1 hour in length, except for dance classes, which are 1 hour and 15 minutes. From free writing to poetry to short stories to song lyrics we will focus on getting comfortable and letting the ideas flow from the depths of our amazing imaginations. Throughout it all we will use silliness and play to ensure that no one takes anything too seriously. So trabulance your naturintzes and betulerate some caf. UKULELE ORCHESTRA Kyle Blase; all Levels; Want to learn how to play ukulele or continue your practice? In just one week you will learn chords, melodies, repertoire and a little bit of the history and legend behind the ukulele. Several songs will be introduced with the intent of mastering at least one during the week. We will spend most of our time playing, (not talking!) and for those of you who are a little more experienced, we will have chord inversions available to further challenge you. The ultimate goal of the course is to give each player the skills they need to motivate themselves in their own ukulele practice. There is no limit to the class size, please bring your ukulele if you have one, if you don't we will have some extras for your use. Bring a pencil and a notebook if possible. See you there. BIG FUN ON THE STEEL PANS - Mark Rosenthal; all Levels; (This class will be offered 3x each day with different music taught in each class) We will be jamming from day one. It takes very little time to get our collective groove on. For one thing the instruments provided have all the notes written on the drums!! (shh don't tell anyone).steel pans are not only a unique addition to the world's catalogue of instruments, they are also really fun to play. If you enjoy the sound and have never played you need to check it out. One Trinidadian saying I like is: "Not I, "We!" and it is very much a community feeling playing in the steelband. In the class we explore different styles of music. Students will be given parts to play according to their level. Classes often prepare one or two pieces for a Saturday performance. DANCE Whether or not you have previous dance experience, come try out a dance class. Dance is a great tool for improving your rhythm and enhancing your confidence and stage presence as a vocalist or instrumentalist. HIP HOP FOUNDATION; Alvedo Hobson; If you have it: please wear all black to class. Come in your own personal style, comfortable loose clothing. (T-shirt, hoodies, shorts, sweats, joggers, etc). Shoes: any sneakers comfortable for dance. This class is designed to create a proper foundation and understanding of skills and movement for hip based dancers, as well as contemporary/modern dancers who seek to be well rounded in all styles of dance. Campers of all dance levels and experience are welcomed to join. Dancers will learn original hip hop elements, as well as the importance of hearing rhythms in connection to the bodies movement. Dancers will learn a choreographed routine geared toward the final dance showcase at the end of camp. HIP HOP EVOLUTION If you have it: please wear all black to class. Come in your own personal style, comfortable loose clothing. (T-shirt, hoodies, shorts, sweats, joggers, etc). Shoes: any sneakers comfortable for dance. This class will continue to build on class one, Hip Hop Elements. Dancers will learn choreography at a slightly faster pace and the importance of dancing as one unit. We will pay closer attention to musicality and body awareness. At this point, each dancer will be ready to tap into their own personal styles, creating movements that will enhance the collective experience. This will all culminate into a fun and challenging dance routine that will be performed at the end of camp as a showcase performance for fellow campers and parents to enjoy!

5 WORLD JAZZ DANCE - Natalie Aceves; Beg/mixed levels-- Class introduces basic jazz and modern technique and vocabulary; blending creative movement, choreography and Natalie's personal style of movement inspired from exploring traditional and contemporary dances from around the world. VOCALS THE GROOVES OF THE BLUES: SHUFFLES, SWINGS, FUNKS - Faye Carol; all levels; This class will explore a variety of songs that journey through the many rhythms inspired by the Blues. WRITING YOUR BLUES - Faye Carol; all levels; We will learn some of the common feels and structures of Blues songs. Students will get comfortable with the forms and use their own stories as well as collaborate to write original Blues songs. THE ROOTS OF R&B - Faye Carol; all levels; We will go from classic Blues to more contemporary music influenced by the Blues. Students will get to find their own voice through interpreting several songs. SINGING FROM YOUR SOUL, FOR YOUR SOUL- Gillian Harwin; all levels; In this class we will explore soul music from the late 50s to today and sing songs from the great soul singers such as Sam Cooke and the Soul Stirrers, The Temptations, Earth Wind and Fire, Aretha Franklin and more! We will learn the cultural importance of knowing where our current music comes from and how to get in touch with the soul in your voice. Come feel the positive physical and spiritual benefits of singing from your soul for your soul. WHAT KEY ARE WE IN?...SONGS IN THE KEY OF LIFE- Gillian Harwin; all levels; Are you a singer? Have you ever been asked these questions about a song and not been able to answer?..."what's the form? What's the key? What's the melody/lyrics? What's the bass line? What's the groove?" In this class we will learn the five fundamentals of a song by singing the music of the great Stevie Wonder! Even if you don't play an instrument, you can still be a smart, well-informed singer and be able to communicate confidently and effectively with the band. TURNTABLE THE BASICS - OTHERWISE KNOWN AS THE BLUNDER IN THE BASEMENT; Joshua Woodson; All levels; Bring one version of your absolute favorite song in digital format. The blunder in the basement refers to a lone DJ who inadvertently discovered a new sound. While practicing long after his bedtime, his mother banged on the door and asked him to "turn it down or turn it off" resulting in the creation of what would become Internationally known as the scratch. In this class we will experiment with the creation of sound. We will also discuss the concept of a DJ. MAKIN ME ITCH - Joshua Woodson; all levels; this class is for those looking to improvise in a group environment. Bring an excess of positive encouragement.
