Masterworks the DPO s flagship series brings dynamic soloists and major classical compositions to the fore. Sensational works for piano, violin, flute and bassoon are performed by artists both long established and on the ascent. Symphonies that have shaken the world will also shake the Mead Theatre stage. The Sundae Classics series is a new evolution of Classical Connections. There will be five performances that more closely echo their Masterworks counterparts, and Neal s comments will be more concise with fewer demonstrations. You ll find songs, a traditional choral work, orchestral works, and Brahms supreme romantic expression the Violin Concerto in D major performed by a new master of violin, the talented Chad Hoopes. Sleeping Beauty: The Story of Briar Rose April 2 & 3, 209 Sleeping Beauty was first performed as a ballet in Russia in 890 to music by the famed composer Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky. Now, Dayton Ballet presents Sleeping Beauty: The Story of Briar Rose with a few twists of our own. Our original presentation of the classic tale is draped in nature with settings of whimsical gardens and ominous forests, fairies that embody virtues of various flowers, and even the beautiful leading maiden: Briar Rose. Evil enters in the form of a vulturelike forest villain named Cinereous. One prick of the finger from a black rose turns sweet Briar Rose into the beloved Sleeping Beauty.
