2 W e lc o m e With every performance, great art enables us to see the world anew. That is its prime motivating force. We feed our bodies with the fruit of our labors. But new artistic experiences feed the heart, mind and spirit. For the bold new Season, the Dayton Performing Arts Alliance transports you to an ever-expanding world of emotion and imagination. Certainly, the cherished classics are here: beloved symphonies and concertos, seasonal events like PhilharMonster, Hometown Holidays, Messiah, and the new production of The Nutcracker. Some appear in new guises! Dayton Ballet s Peter Pan will be performed for the first time with the full Philharmonic. But as important are the new experiences. DPAA Composer-in-Residence, Stella Sung, teams with Karen Russo Burke for the World Premiere of an exciting new ballet in February The Opera brings Dead Man Walking to the Midwest for the first time in over a decade. Star Philharmonic instrumentalists and Opera vocalists take on an expanded prominence with their own Chamber Series. Neal Gittleman creates a thematic arch for all four Classical Connections concerts, now performed on Sundays. For those who love Russian music, the season is a treasure trove of wonderment. To honor Benjamin Britten on the anniversary of his 100th birthday, we welcome Keith Lockhart to conduct the War Requiem. Audience-pleasing artists such as jazz great John Pizzarelli are back, while we also look forward to newcomers to our stage such as Tiempo Libre and Indigo Girls. We re even busy creating a rock and orchestral tribute to the music of The Rocky Horror Picture Show. We continue our innovation of presenting Signature Events; performances that combine the power of all three art forms. The spectacular Russian Panorama opens the season, Classical Destinations marks the halfway point at New Year s Eve, and The Pearl Fishers completes the Opera series in April. Nowhere else in the nation can you experience a dramatic arts collaboration with the range and depth of such new experiences as these. So subscribe now and let us, together, chart a course for new horizons. Both story ballets (The Nutcracker and Peter Pan) are performed in the Schuster Center, accompanied by the full Dayton Philharmonic. Peter Pan is also part of the SuperPops Series. Ghost Stories in October includes two works by acclaimed choreographer Amy Seiwert, the haunting pas de deux from Giselle, and a new dance by Dayton s own DeShonna Pepper Robertson.
