2 AD 1 A Requirements Occupational Safety and Health Regulations (OSHA) National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) Florida Statutes and Administrative Rules Cabling System Certified Cabling Catalog 1.2 DESCRIPTION A. General: Furnish and install complete with all accessories an EIA/TIA 568A Category 5E Structured Cabling System (SCS) with a minimum 15 year warranty for the entire system. The goal of the project is to provide an enhanced SCS system that shall serve as a vehicle for transport of data, video, and voice telephony signals throughout the building and from building to building from designated demarcation points to outlets located at various desk, workstation and other locations as indicated on the contract drawings and described herein. B. Support analog and digital voice applications, data, local area networks (LAN), video and low voltage devices for building controls and management on a common cabling platform. The applications that shall be supported include, but are not limited to: Data Processing - EIA-232-D, EIA-422A, EIA-43-A, RS-485, StarLAN, Fiber Distributed Data Interface (FDDI), Ethernet 10BASE-T (IEEE 802.3i), 10BASE- F (IEEE 802.3j),Token Ring 4/16Mbps (IEEE 802.5), and TP-PMD. In addition, these links/channels shall be capable of supporting high-end applications such as 100 Base-T (IEEE 802.3u), 1000Base-T (IEEE 802.3z,ab), Voice Applications - Lucent, Northern Telecom, NEC, SIEMENS. Video Broadband and base band Analog Video, Digital Video, Video Conferencing. Other Applications: ISDN, ATM, ADSL, VoIP. C. General: The system shall utilize a network of unshielded twisted pair cables (UTP) and fiber optic cables (FO) for Horizontal cabling, Backbone STRUCTURED CABLING SYSTEM

3 cabling, Riser cabling, tie cabling, and patch cords. Cables and terminations shall be provided and located as shown and in the quantities indicated on the drawings. FO Cables shall terminate on wall mounted Light Interconnection Units (LIU's). Horizontal UTP cables for VOICE shall terminate on wall mounted 110 patch panel and work area outlets located as shown on the drawings. Horizontal UTP cables for DATA shall terminate on rack mounted 8 position modular patch panels and work area outlets located as shown on the drawings. All cables and terminations shall be identified at all locations according to the EIA/TIA 606 standard. All cables shall be terminated in an alpha-numeric sequence at all termination locations. D. Warranty: Cabling systems shall be required to be under manufacturers warranty program for a complete channel configuration including cable, jacks, patch cords and patch panels and include cabling specifically approved for the channel configuration with the manufacturers components. E. All terminations shall comply with, and be tested to the EIA/TIA 568A Category 5E Draft 11/12 requirements at a minimum, providing a minimum 15- year warranty. It should be anticipated by all installers that all horizontal cable supporting data applications must meet at a minimum the Category 5 Enhanced performance requirements for 100 meters as listed by EIA/TIA standards for the channel. F. Data Services: Wiring utilized for data communications shall originate at Owner provided hubs and concentrators in wall mounted vertical equipment rack located at the MCE. G. Work Included: Wiring, terminations and patch bays between these designated demarcation points and outlet locations designated on the plans shall be considered part of the contract. Outlets (jacks) shall be furnished, wired and installed by the SCS contractor. H. Voice services: Telephone Company Connectivity. Wiring utilized for telephone voice service shall originate at an RJ-21X in MCE installed by BELLSOUTH (Dial tone Entrance cable provider). I. 1.3 CONTRACTOR QUALIFICATIONS A. General: The contractor selected for the Project must be certified by the manufacturers of the products, adhere to the engineering, installation and testing procedures and utilize the authorized manufacturers components and distribution channels in provisioning the Project. B. General: The Contractor directly responsible for this work shall be a "Structured Cabling System Contractor" who is, and who has been, regularly engaged in the STRUCTURED CABLING SYSTEM

4 providing and installation of commercial and industrial telecommunications wiring systems of this type and size for at least the immediate past five years. Any sub-contractor who will assist the SCS contractor in performance of this work, shall have the same training and certification as the SCS contractor. C. Certification: The contractor's Project Manager shall possess a current BICSI Registered Communications Distribution Designer (RCDD) certificate. All shop drawings submitted by the contractor shall bear the RCDD's seal. D. Experience: The Contractor shall be experienced in all aspects of this work and shall be required to demonstrate direct experience on recent systems of similar type and size. The Contractor shall own and maintain tools and equipment necessary for successful installation and testing of optical fiber and Category 5E and 6 metallic premise distribution systems and have personnel who are adequately trained in the use of such tools and equipment. 1.4 SUBMITTALS General: Submittals shall include manufactures cut sheets for all proposed equipment including, but not limited to, the following: 1. All wire and cable. 2. All connectors and required tooling. 3. All termination system components for each cable type. 4. All MCE equipment frame types, hardware and LAN equipment if part of this project. 5. All cable fasteners, CAT5E cable suspension components. 6. All grounding and surge suppression system components for the systems portion of the project. 1.5 SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS FOR CABLE ROUTING AND INSTALLATION A. General: Cable routing and Installation practices shall be in accordance with BICSI s Telecommunications Distribution Methods Manual (TDMM) and Telecommunications Installation Manual. B. Plenum Spaces. All communications cabling used throughout this project shall comply with the requirements as outlined in the National Electric Code (NEC) article 800. All cabling shall bare appropriate markings for the environment in which they are installed. C. Cable Pathway: The majority of SCS wiring in this building will be installed concealed in slab. All cables shall run in homerun 1 conduits from station outlet back to MCE. STRUCTURED CABLING SYSTEM

5 Any cabling above ceiling shall run in homerun IMC 1 conduits from station outlets to MCE. D. Attachments shall be to the building structure and framework. Ceiling suspension wire shall not be allowed in any space for conduit support. Where conduit is run above the ceiling in areas without walls, all thread rod shall be used (minimum 1/4", however sized to support the intended weight) with the appropriate unistrut or hanger for crossroom support. Support structure shall be level and plumb after conduit installation. E. Cable bundles: At the MCE, contractor shall bundle, in bundles of 40 or less, horizontal wiring with cable ties snug, but not deforming the cable geometry. The cable bundling shall be supported via "CLIC" fasteners attached to the framework or plywood installed. The contractor shall adhere to the manufacturers' requirements for bending radius and pulling tension of all cables. F. Protection: Sealing of openings through rated fire and smoke walls, existing or created by this contractor for conduit pass through shall be the responsibility of the contractor. Sealing material and application of this material shall be accomplished in such a manner, which is acceptable to the local fire and building authorities having jurisdiction over this work. Creation of such openings as are necessary for conduit passage between locations as shown on the drawings shall be the responsibility of this contractor's work. Any openings created by or for this contractor and left unused shall also be sealed as part of this work. Penetration rating shall equal structure rating. G. Damage: The contractor shall be responsible for any damage to any surfaces or work disrupted as a result of his work. Repair of surfaces including painting and ceiling tile replacement shall be included as part of this contract. H. Avoiding EMI : To avoid EMI, all pathways shall provide clearances of at least 4 feet (1.2 meters) from motors or transformers; 1 foot (0.3 meter) from conduit and cables used for electrical-power distribution ; and 5 inches (12 centimeters) from fluorescent lighting. Pathways shall cross perpendicular to fluorescent lighting and electricalpower cables and conduits. 1.6 WORK EXTERNAL TO THE BUILDING General: Any work external to the confines of this building as shown on the drawings shall be governed by the provisions of this specification. PART 2 - PRODUCTS 2.1 OUTLETS A. General: Copper outlets: Communications outlets that contain copper services shall be equipped with 8-position modular jacks (RJ45 type) utilizing T568A wiring and BNC or F type bulkhead video connection to be provided where and if indicated.. 6 outlet cabling shall terminate on appropriate termination blocks at MCE. Outlet jack module arrangement and quantities are shown on the drawings. Provide color-coded icon labels at each outlet and at all patch panels. B. General: Multimedia outlets: A multimedia outlet shall be capable of housing copper and fiber optic cabling services. Copper services shall be equipped with 8-position modular jacks (RJ45 type) utilizing T568A wiring, BNC or F type bulkhead video connections and 2 pair of ST Holt Melt type connectors for Multimode 62.5/125 µm to be provided where and if indicated. All outlet fiber optic cabling shall terminate on appropriate Light Interconnection Unit (LIU) at MCE. Outlet arrangement and quantities are shown on the drawings. Provide color-coded icon labels at each outlet and MDC. The outlet/connector box shall have the ability to secure the optical fiber cable and provide for a minimum of 1.18 inch (30 mm) bend radius. A minimum of 3.28 ft (1 m) of fiber optical cable or buffered optical fibers shall be accesible for termination purposes. C. Wall outlets : For copper outlets shall consist of single gang wall plates. For Multimedia outlets shall consist of surface mount box. Provide blank module inserts for all unused module locations D. 8-position modular jacks: CAT 5E jacks shall meet or exceed the following electrical and mechanical specifications: Electrical Specifications: 1. Insulation resistance: 500 MΩ minimum. 2. Dielectric withstand voltage 1,000 VAC RMS, 60 hz minimum, contact-to-contact and 1,500 VAC RMS, 60 hz minimum from any contact to exposed conductive surface. 3. Contact resistance: 20 MΩ maximum. 4. Current rating: 1.5 A at 68 F (20 C) per IEC publication 512-3, Test 5b 5. ISO 9001 Certified Manufacturer 6. UL verified for EIA/TIA electrical performance 7. Comply with FCC Part 68 Mechanical Performance: 1. Plug Insertion Life: 750 insertions 2. Contact Force: 3.5 oz (99.2 g) minimum using FCC-Approved modular plug. 3. Connectors shall meet or exceed the following transmission and mechanical specifications: 1. Maximum loss of 0.2 db 2. Maximum attenuation per each mated field-installed 568SC connector pair shall not exceed 0.75 db per ANSI/TIA/EIA method. 3. Return Loss 20 db on 62.5/125 µm performed at 23 C ± 5 C. 9 4. Connectors shall sustain a minimum of 500 mating cycles without violating specifications. 5. Connectors shall have an optical axial pull strength of 2.2 N (o.5lbf) at 90 angle, with a maximum 0.5 db increase in attenuation for both tests when tested in accordance with ANSI/EIA/TIA-455-6B. 6. The maximum optical attenuation through the cross connect from any terminated optical fiber to any other terminated optical fiber must not exceed 1.5 db. B. Connector design selection: 6100 Hot Melt by 3M or equal by Lucent, Siecor, Siemon, Panduit or AMP. C. Outlet Labeling: Each jack on all outlets shall be identified with permanent machine generated labels, meeting the EIA/TIA 606 requirements, matching the numbering plan indicated on the drawings with the addition of a letter suffix indicating the jack position on the faceplate. Jacks shall be numbered from left to right and top to bottom (Ex: 123-1A, 123-1B, etc.). Each module shall be labeled as to its current function (VOICE or DATA) using color coded icons. All labeling must be permanent. All labeling shall be a minimum 12 pt. in size. All labeling systems shall be submitted to the engineer for approval prior to fabrication. D. Performance marking: Connecting hardware should be marked to designate transmission performance at the discretion of the manufacturer or the approval agency. The markings, if any, shall be visible during installation. It is suggested that such markings consist of: Cat 3 or 3 for category 3 components Cat 5 or 5 for category 5 components Cat 5E or 5e for category 5E components Performance markings are in addition to, and do not replace, other markings required by listing agencies or those needed to satisfy electrical code or local building code requirements. 2.2 CATEGORY 5E DATA AND VOICE HORIZONTAL CABLE A. General: Data pairs shall be extended between the outlet location and the MCE. The cable shall consist of 4 pair 24 gauge, solid copper conductors, Certified to the Category 5E standards. UL Verified for EIA/TIA electrical performance Comply with FCC Part 68. Cables shall be terminated on each of the 8-position modular jacks provided at each outlet. Voice jacks shall also utilize this cable type. Only virgin materials shall be used. STRUCTURED CABLING SYSTEM

10 Cable selection shall be based upon meeting an end to end channel performance and shall be shown to have been tested with the proposed component manufacturers products as a complete channel solution. B. Jacket: Cable jacket shall comply with Article 800 NEC for use as a plenum cable where applicable. All cables shall bear the UL CMP marking. The only type of CAT 5E cable acceptable for use at the University is Cable manufactured using 100% Dupont Teflon FEP or fluorinated ethylene propylene. Cables utilizing 2+2 construction shall not be acceptable. Cable for use in non-plenum areas shall bear the UL and CM markings. C. Horizontal Cables drops from MCE to specified outlets locations are to be without splices. D. Performance marking: 100W UTP cabling runs should be marked to designate transmission performance at the discretion of the manufacturer or the approval agency at both ends after installation. 11 Cat 5 or 5 for category 5 cable Cat 5E or 5e for category 5E cable Performance markings are in addition to, and do not replace, other markings required by listing agencies or those needed to satisfy electrical code or local building code requirements. F. Design selection: UTP 4 pr 24 AWG Belden CAT 5E Non-Plenum where applicable or Plenum if requirement. G. Approved equal: Berk-tek, BICCGeneral, Commscope, Mohawk, Lucent, NORDX/CDT or Brand-Rex. 2.3 CABLE SUPPORT SYSTEM A. General Horizontal cables shall be suspended by by "CLIC" fasteners with cable inserts in closets where J-hooks, ladder tray or rack management is not available B. Listings: "CLIC" fastners shall be in accordance with NEC, EIA/TIA requirements for structured cabling systems. All cable supports shall be U.L. listed. C. Design selection: "CLIC" 32 with 32-2 insert, Erico Caddy CAT32 or approved equal. 1.4 COPPER RISER/TIE CABLING A. General: There is no copper or fiber optic riser cable for this building. B. General: Tie cable (Entrance cable) is responsibility of Telephone service provider. (BELLSOUTH). For this Building 50 PR copper entrance cable shall be used. C. BELLSOUTH s RJ21X blocks provide 25 pair side mounted female hock connectors. UF telecommunications will route 25 Pair CM type cables from the demarcation field to 110 hardware block termination field mounted in the MCE. 2.5 SITE COPPER CABLE PROTECTION UNITS A. General: All site copper circuits shall be provided with protection between each building with an entrance cable protector chassis. this protection is responsibility of Telephone service provider. (BELLSOUTH). No additional protection is required STRUCTURED CABLING SYSTEM

12 2.6 INTRANET FIBER OPTIC CABLING B. General: 12 strand Fiber Optic cable consisting of Six 62.5/125 m Multi-mode and Six /125m single mode fiber optic cabling shall be provided from the MCE to appropriate UF intranet core node. Cables placed below grade shall be certified by the manufacturer for that environment. C. Multimode Cable Construction: 1. Number of fibers: 6 2. Core/Cladding: 62.5 micron/125 micron. 3. Buffering: 900 micron 4. Attenuation: 3.4 decibels/kilometer at 850 nanometers, decibels/kilometer at 1300 nanometers. 6. Minimum bandwidth: 200 megahertz/kilometer at 850 nanometers, 500 megahertz/kilometer at 1300 nanometers. 7. Sheath construction: Non-metallic 8. Design Selection: SIECOR or equal by Lucent. Singlemode Cable Construction: 1. Number of fibers: Core/Cladding: (8.3 to 8.7 mm)/125 mm 3. Coating Diameter : mm 4. Attenuation: 0.5 decibels/kilometer at 1310 nanometers, 0.5 db decibels/kilometer at 1550 nanometers. 5. Sheath construction: Non-metallic. 6. Design Selection: SIECOR or equal by Lucent. Fiber optic Composite cable shall be used. (6 MM, 6 SM) C. Fan-out Kits: All loose tube, filled cables shall be provided with fan out kits at each termination point. Fan-outs shall be equal to SIECOR SFK-P. D. Fiber optic cable Protection: fiber cable shall be installed in 1 innerduct for physical protection. 2.7 EQUIPMENT RACKS A. General: the MCE shall be equipped with wall mounted 19" EIA rack(s) to house contractor provided termination bays for the multiple cable types. Racks shall be securely fastened to the wall studs with at least 1/4" hardware. All racks shall be bonded to the MCE ground bar using a standard ground lug and #6 jacketed green cable. B. Design Selection: (Wall Mtd.): Panduit WBH4 or equal by Siemon. STRUCTURED CABLING SYSTEM

13 C. Rack Accessories: Wall rack shall be provided with the following accessories: Horizontal cable organizer: Panduit WMPFS or similar 1RU or no RU space type organizer. n+1 per rack : n = number of patch panel D. Plywood backboards shall be installed in MCE room on wall to a height of 8' AFF as showing on drawing. Plywood shall be minimum ¾ AC with the best side out. All imperfections shall be sealed and sanded prior to painting with 2 coats fire retardant paint. (Color to be Black, Grey or white) Coordinate color selection with the owner. 2.8 CATEGORY 5E PATCH PANELS FOR DATA A. General: rack shall be equipped with 19" rack mounted, 8-position modular jacks ( RJ-45 type), non-keyed, patch panels for termination of all data copper horizontal cables. B. Data Work Area outlets patch panels shall be fully loaded with jacks to meet the Category 5E or higher standards and shall be modular-to-110, wired for T568A pin outs for the cables serving the Data Work Area Outlets. Patch panels shall be provided in 24 or 48 port configurations as shown on the drawings. C. Design Selection: Panduit DP A, DP A. D. Design Equals: Leviton, Wiremold, Hubble, Lucent or Siemon. E. Identification: Designation strips for each port shall be provided on the patch panel. All cables shall be terminated in numerical sequence and each position labeled as to outlet number and jack position as is noted for the outlets. F. Category 5E Modular Patch Cords and Work-area Cords for DATA: 1. Provide one Category 5E Modular Work-area Cord for each DATA outlet in the project to be used at the WORK AREA locations. Work-area cords shall be provided in length as follows with 8-position modular connectors on both ends: 20% 6, 30% 8 and 50% 10. Color selection desired is Blue. 2. Provide one Category 5E Modular Patch Cords, for the rack patching, for each data wall outlet in the project. Patch cords shall be provided in length as follows with RJ-45 modular connectors on both ends: 100% 4. Color selection desired is Blue. 3. All cords shall be round, and consist of 24 AWG copper, stranded conductors insulated with high density polyethylene and jacketed with flame retardant PVC. Cords shall be a component part of the proposed CAT 5E channel solution and have been tested as such. STRUCTURED CABLING SYSTEM

14 2.9 CATEGORY 5E PATCH PANELS FOR VOICE B. General: Wall mounted 110 type patch panels shall be used for termination of all voice copper horizontal cables. C. Voice Work Area outlets patch panels shall meet the Category 5E or higher standards. Patch panels shall be provided as shown on the drawings. D. Design Selection: Panduit Punch down block: P110BW100-X. 4-pair connecting block: P110PB-4-X Jumper trough: P110JTW-X E. Design Equals: Siemon or Lucent. F. Identification: Designation strips for each port shall be provided on the patch panel. All cables shall be terminated in numerical sequence and each position labeled as to outlet number and jack position as is noted for the outlets. G. Category 5E 110 Patch Cords for Voice: 2. Provide one Category 5E pair cord, for the rack patching, for each voice outlet in the project in length as follows with 110 connectors on both ends: 100 % 3. Color selection desired is white. 3. All cords shall be round, and consist of 24 AWG copper, stranded conductors insulated with high density polyethylene and jacketed with flame retardant PVC. Cords shall be a component part of the proposed CAT 5E channel solution and have been tested as such FIBER OPTIC TERMINATION A. Wall Mounted Panels: Fiber optic cabling shall be terminated in Light Interconnection Units (LIU) where indicated on the contract drawings and described herein. B. General: Provide blanking modules in all unused connection ports on the panels. All panels shall include strain relief points where fiber optic cable strength members shall be securely attached. C. Labels: Labeling for fiber cabling shall be by MCE number, plus the color suffix designating which fiber is terminated. Die cut acetate labels or Kroy labels shall be considered acceptable the purpose. Identification shall include to and from information. D. Accessories: Provide (2) two duplex MM fiber optic patch cords with connectors matching the fiber cable and equipment connections on each end respectively. All patch cords shall be FDDI grade and eight feet in length UNSPECIFIED EQUIPMENT AND MATERIAL Any item of equipment or material not specifically addressed on the contract drawings or in this document and required to provide a complete and functional SCS installation shall be provided in a level of quality consistent with other specified items GROUNDING SYSTEM AND CONDUCTORS A. Communications bonding and grounding shall be in accordance with the NEC and NFPA as well as EIA/TIA grounding and bonding standards. Backbone and entrance cables shall be grounded in compliance with ANSI/NFPA 70 and local requirements and practices. B. A #6 AWG stranded copper wire cable shall be extended between new ground bars located at each IDF and the building main electrical service ground point or secondary transformer ground point. The building steel, the equipment rack, and all surge suppressors, protectors and metallic cabinets shall be bonded to the ground bar via a #6 AWG stranded copper cable and U.L. approved connecting hardware. PART 3 - EXECUTION 3.1 WORKMANSHIP A. Components of the premise distribution system shall be installed in a neat, workmanlike manner consistent with the best telephone and data practices. B. Wiring color codes shall be strictly observed and terminations shall be uniform throughout the building. C. Identification markings and systems shall be uniform. D. T568A wiring codes as shown on the drawings shall standardize all twisted pair wiring. STRUCTURED CABLING SYSTEM

16 3.2 CAT 5E CABLE INSTALLATION Installation of Category 5E UTP cable shall be in accordance with EIA/TIA guidelines for Category 5E. Cable installation and terminations that do not comply shall be replaced by the contractor. 1. The maximum pulling tension shall not exceed 25 pounds to avoid stretching the conductors. 2. The minimum bending radius of the cable shall not be less than 1". 3. The cable shall be installed without kinks or twists and the application of cable ties shall not deform the cable bundle. 4. Strip back only as much cable jacket as is required to terminate the cable and the amount of untwisting in a pair as a result of the termination shall not exceed 0.5 in. 3.3 SERVICE SLACK All cable runs shall contain service slack prior to the termination point. Provide 12 inch. service slack in the ceiling above each outlet. Service slack at MCE shall consist of a 10 foot slack section all station cables located and placed neatly in cable tray above the equipment rack. 3.4 SUPPORT AND ROUTING OF CABLES OR CONDUITS A. Use of ceiling tiles, grid or hanger wires for support of SCS cables or conduit s shall be prohibited. B. The SCS system contractor shall install a complete set of supporting hardware for this system as part of the SCS contract. All supporting hardware shall be submitted to the engineer for approval prior to installation. Hardware shall also be utilized by other systems work. Comply with basic layout indicated on drawing details for cable placement. 3.5 FIRE AND SMOKE PARTITION PENETRATIONS A. Conduit sleeves shall be provided as a means of routing cables between various communications rooms and multi floor buildings. Openings in sleeves and conduits used for the SCS system cables and those which remain (empty) spare shall be sealed with a U.L. approved fireproof, removable safing material. B. Additional penetrations through rated assemblies necessary for passage of SCS wiring shall be made using an approved method and permanently sealed after installation of cables. 3.6 CROSS CONNECTS/PATCHING STRUCTURED CABLING SYSTEM

17 The SCS Contractor shall provide 1 man each of the phased move dates. This technician shall assist the owner in cross connecting (patching) the voice and data services throughout the building during the relocation periods. It is at these times that Owner provided connectivity schedules for voice and data services will be provided to the Contractor. 3.7 TRAINING The contractor shall provide one 2 hour training session to familiarize the owner with the locations of MCE s, cable and jack labeling and numbering systems, data and voice connections. 3.8 AS-BUILT DOCUMENTATION A. As-built documentation shall be provided as part of the contract. As-built drawings shall be a complete set of Autocad Release 12/2000 floor plans with all outlets shown and numbered as installed. The original project floor plan disks shall be obtained from the Owner. All cable routings (trunk lines) and elevations of MCE, indicating outlet and tie cable terminations shall be required. All addendum information or project revisions resulting in drawing changes that occur during the construction period shall be documented and included in the as-built material. All required as-built documentation is mandatory and shall be required prior to project closeout. A set of prints with all changes shall be submitted to the Engineer for review. Upon completion of the Engineer's review, the Contractor shall provide updated disks and a reproducible mylar set of drawings, which include final As-built conditions and the Engineer's review comments, if any. B. Contractor shall provide Excel software spreadsheet that defines the telecommunications outlet number, location, number of voice, data and special jacks. This database shall also provide the outlet patch panel connection to the riser/inter-floor cable, equipment, and telephone company demarcation circuit pairs as part of the as-built documentation. 3.9 TESTING OF WIRING ACCURACY A. General: Premises Distribution Cabling Contractor shall test wiring setting tester for a channel configuration which includes the patch cord, patch panel, UTP Cable, work-area jack and work-area cord. The Engineer shall be present during all tests. Notify the engineer one prior to testing. B. Testing Equipment: Tester shall be as manufactured by Hewlett Packard, Fluke, Microtest or Wavetek. Tester shall be 100% Level IIE compliant with TSB- STRUCTURED CABLING SYSTEM

18 95/ADDEMDUM 5 to ANSI/EIA/TIA 568A specifications for testing of CAT 5E cabling. No tester will be approved with out meeting these requirements. C. Each jack in each outlet shall be tested at a minimum to the Category 5E compliance in a channel configuration to verify the integrity of all conductors and the correctness of the termination sequence. Testing shall be performed between work-area cord at the outlets and the patch cord at the equipment rack. Prior to Testing UTP runs, the tester shall be calibrated per manufacturer guidelines. The correct cable NVP shall be entered into tester to assure proper length and attenuation readings. During Channel testing the patch cords and the work-area cords shall be the same as those provided by the contractor per this specification. Each Channel test shall include one patch cord and one work-area cord, with no cord used twice. D. Documentation of cable testing shall be required. The SCS contractor shall provide the results of all Category 5E cable tests in electronic format as well as two (2) hard bound copies in 3-ring binders. Provide IBM format text files on 3 1/2" diskette. Provide a separate text file for each building in the project. Each test page shall be separated by standard page break (one test per page). The test results shall include: MHz sweep tests, continuity, polarity checks, wire map, Attenuation, NEXT, PSNEXT, FEXT, PSFEXT, ELFEXT, PSELFEXT, ACR, PSACR, Return Loss, Delay Skew, and the installed length for Category 5E cables. 2. Cables not complying with EIA/TIA 568A Category 5E tests for 100 Mb rating shall be identified to the engineer for corrective action which may include replacement at no additional expense to the Owner TESTING OF FIBER OPTIC CABLE A. General: Each strand in fiber optic cables shall be tested for correctness of termination, overall transmission loss, and defects using an approved Optical Time Domain Reflectometer (OTDR) and a power meter. The Engineer shall be present during all tests. Notify the engineer one prior to testing. B. Testing Equipment: Tester shall be as manufactured by Hewlett Packard, Fluke, Microtest, Noyes or Wavetek. C. Multimode fiber Testing shall be I.A.W. TIA/EIA method B. System loss measurements (both calculated and measured) shall be provided at 850 and 1300 nanometers in both directions for multimode cables (1310 and 1550 nanometers for singlemode) for each strand. Per IEEE 802.3z, maximum fiber strand attenuation shall not exceed nm with a modal bandwidth STRUCTURED CABLING SYSTEM

19 of 160 Mhz-km and nm with a modal bandwidth of 500 Mhz-km. Test as follows: 1. Measure and record normalized fiber loss at operating wavelength in db/km. 2. Detect and record point faults or discontinuities. 3. Measure and record overall length of cable. B. Certification report shall be provided listing both the calculated and measure loss for each fiber optic circuit and submitted with he test results as called for above. Provide test results in IBM text format on 3 1/2" diskettes as well as (2) hard bound copies in 3-ring binders. Documentation of testing shall include: Wavelength, fiber type, fiber manufacturer and cable model number, cable manufacturers attenuation specifications, cable manufacturers bandwidth specifications, Measurement direction, Test equipment and serial numbers (with date of last calibration), date of each test, reference setup, Name of technician(s) performing testing.
