Radio-controed Atomic This watch receives a time caibration signa and updates its time setting accordingy. Supported time caibration signas: Germany (Mainfingen), Engand (Anthorn), United States (Fort Coins), Japan (Fukushima or Fukuoka/Saga). See the information under Signa Reception Troubeshooting if you experience probems with time caibration signa reception. Current Time Setting This watch adjusts its time setting automaticay in accordance with a time caibration signa. You aso can perform a manua procedure to set the time and date, when necessary. The first thing you shoud do after purchasing this watch is to specify your Home, which is the city where you normay wi use the watch. For more information, see To specify your Home. When using the watch outside the areas covered by the time signa transmitters, you wi have to adjust the current time setting manuay as required. See for more information about manua time settings. The U.S. time caibration signa can be picked up by the watch whie in North America. In the Mode, hod down A for about five seconds unti the watch beeps twice. The stopwatch wi move to the city code of the currenty seected Home. This is the city code setting mode. The wi stop at 0.* * Some modes show 60 instead of 0.. Use D to move the stopwatch to the city code 0 code you want to use as your Home. Each press of D causes the stopwatch to advance cockwise to the next city code. Time caibration signa reception is supported when any one of the city codes shown in the tabe beow is seected as your Home. For fu information on city codes, see the Tabe. German/U.K. Signa Japan Signa U.S. Signa Name Name Name Name LON London HKG Hong Kong HNL Honouu DEN Denver PAR Paris TYO Tokyo ANC Anchorage CHI Chicago ATH Athens LAX Los Angees NYC New York In addition to the above, you aso can seect city codes that are outside the ranges of the time caibration signa transmitters supported by this watch. Note that this watch does not have a city code that corresponds to Newfoundand.. After the Home setting is the way you want, press A to return to the Mode. Normay, your watch shoud show the correct time as soon as you specify your Home code. If it does not, it shoud adjust automaticay after the next auto receive operation. You aso can perform manua receive or you can set the time manuay. Even if the time caibration signa is received correcty, there are some times when the anaog s may not indicate the correct time. If this happens, use the procedures under Adjusting the Home Positions to check the home positions of the s, and make adjustments as required. Dayight (DST) Dayight (summer time) advances the time setting by one hour from. Remember that not a countries or even oca areas use Dayight. The time caibration signas transmitted from Mainfingen (Germany), Anthorn (Engand), or Fort Coins (the United States) incude both and DST data. When the Auto DST setting is turned on, the watch switches between Standard Time and DST (summer time) automaticay in accordance with the signas. Though the time caibration signa transmitted by the Fukushima and Fukuoka/Saga, Japan transmitters incude summer time data, summer time currenty is not impemented in Japan (as of 007). The defaut DST setting is Auto DST (AT/AUTO) whenever you seect LON, PAR, ATH, ANC, LAX, DEN, CHI, NYC, or TYO as your Home code. If you experience probems receiving the time caibration signa in your area, it probaby is best to switch between and Dayight (summer time) manuay. For more information, see To set the time and date manuay.

2 Time Caibration Signa Reception There are two different methods you can use to receive the time caibration signa: auto receive and manua receive. Auto Receive With auto receive, the watch receives the time caibration signa automaticay up to six times a day. When any auto receive is successfu, the remaining auto receive operations are not performed. For more information, see About Auto Receive. Manua Receive Manua receive ets you start a time caibration receive operation with the press of a button. For more information, see To perform manua receive. Important! When getting ready to receive the time caibration signa, position the watch as shown in the nearby iustration, with its o cock side facing towards a window. This watch is designed to receive a time caibration signa ate at night. Because of this, you shoud pace the watch near a window as shown in the iustration when you take it off at night. Make sure there are no meta objects nearby. o cock Make sure the watch is facing the right way. Proper signa reception can be difficut or even impossibe under the conditions isted beow. Inside or among buidings Inside a vehice Near househod appiances, office equipment, or a mobie phone Signa reception normay is better at night than during the day. Time caibration signa reception takes from two to seven minutes, but in some cases it can take as ong as minutes. Take care that you do not perform any button operations or move the watch during this time. The time caibration signa the watch wi attempt to pick up depends on its current Home code setting as shown beow. If you use the watch in Japan or Europe (each of which has two different transmitter ocations), it wi try to receive the time caibration signa from one of the transmitters in your current ocation. If it cannot receive the signa, it wi then try to receive the time caibration signa from the other transmitter. Home s and Transmitters Home LON, PAR, ATH or Near a construction site, airport, or other sources of eectrica noise Transmitter Anthorn (Engand) Mainfingen (Germany) Fukushima (Japan) Fukuoka/Saga (Japan) Fort Coins, Coorado (the United States) Near hightension power ines Frequency 77. khz 0.0 khz Among or behind mountains HKG*, TYO HNL*, ANC*, LAX, DEN, CHI, NYC * The areas covered by the HKG, HNL, and ANC city codes are quite far from the time caibration signa transmitters, and so certain conditions may cause probems with signa reception. Approximate Reception Ranges U.S. Signa U.K. and German Signas,00 kiometers,000 mies (,000 kiometers) Anthorn 00 kiometers U.K. signa transmitter approximate reception range as of Apri kiometers Fukuoka/Saga,000 kiometers Mainfingen 600 mies (,000 kiometers) Fort Coins 00 kiometers Fukushima,000 kiometers Japan Signa In Apri 007, the U.K. signa transmitter was moved from Rugby to Anthorn, which resuted in a sight shift in the approximate reception range of the signa. The shift is so sight that there is virtuay no change in the abiity to receive the signa. Even when the watch is within the reception range of a transmitter, signa reception may be impossibe at times due to the effects of geographic contours, structures, weather, the season of the year, the time of day, radio interference, etc. Note that the signa becomes weaker at distances of approximatey 00 kiometers from the transmitter, which means that the infuence of the conditions isted above becomes even greater. About Auto Receive The watch receives the time caibration signa automaticay up to six times a day. When any auto receive is successfu, the remaining auto receive operations are not performed. The reception schedue (caibration times) depends on your currenty seected Home, and whether standard time or Dayight is seected for your Home. Your Home Auto Receive Start Times LON PAR ATH HKG, TYO HNL, ANC, LAX, DEN, CHI, NYC Dayight Dayight Dayight Dayight :00 am Midnight Midnight :00 am :00 am * 6 * * * Note * Next day When a caibration time is reached, the watch wi receive the caibration signa ony if it is in either the Mode or Word Time Mode. Reception is not performed if a caibration time is reached whie you are configuring settings. Auto receipt of the caibration signa is designed to be performed eary in the morning, whie you seep (provided that the Mode time is set correcty). Before going to bed for the night, remove the watch from your wrist, and put it in a ocation where it can receive the signa easiy. The watch receives the caibration signa for two to minutes every day when the time in the Mode reaches each of the caibration times. Do not perform any button operation within minutes before or after the caibration times. Doing so can interfere with correct caibration. The stopwatch wi move to WORK and stay there whie actua reception is in progress. If signa reception is unstabe during reception, the stopwatch may move between WORK and READY. The hour and minute s continue to keep time normay. Time caibration signa reception takes from two to seven minutes, but in some cases it can take as ong as minutes. Take care that you do not perform any button operations or move the watch during this time. If reception is successfu, the stopwatch wi move to YES (Y). Five seconds ater, the s wi move to the correct time. Note To interrupt a receive operation and return to the Mode, press any button. If reception is not successfu, the stopwatch wi move to NO (N). High-speed movement of s and day wi continue unti you press any button, or unti the moving (s) and day finishes one compete cyce. - One compete cyce for the s is one revoution (60 degrees) of the hour, or hours. - One compete cyce for the day is days. High-speed movement aso is triggered by changing from one mode to another, changing a Word Time Mode setting (changing the Word Time city in the Word Time Mode, swapping the Word Time city and Home city, etc. A buttons (except for the C button for changing modes) are disabed during a highspeed or date operation. You wi be abe to perform button operations again after high-speed operation is stopped. Radio-controed Atomic Precautions Strong eectrostatic charge can resut in the wrong time being set. The time caibration signa bounces off the ionosphere. Because of this, such factors as changes in the refectivity of the ionosphere, as we as movement of the ionosphere to higher atitudes due to seasona atmospheric changes or the time of day may change the reception range of the signa and make reception temporariy impossibe. Even if the time caibration signa is received propery, certain conditions can cause the time setting to be off by up to one second. The current time setting in accordance with the time caibration signa takes priority over any time settings you make manuay. The watch is designed to update the date and day of the week automaticay for the period January, 000 to December, 099. Setting of the date by the time caibration signa wi not be performed starting from January, 00. This watch can receive signas that differentiate between eap years and non-eap years. Though this watch is designed to receive both time data (hour, minutes, seconds) and date data (year, month, day), certain signa conditions can imit reception to time data ony. If you are in an area where proper time caibration signa reception is impossibe, the watch keeps time within ±0 seconds a month at norma temperature. The year can be set in the range of 000 to 099. The watch s buit-in fu automatic caendar makes aowances for different month engths and eap years. Once you set the date, there shoud be no reason to change it except after you have the watch s battery repaced or when battery power drops to Leve. The date wi change automaticay when the current time reaches midnight. The date change at the end of the month may take more time than norma. The current time for a city codes in the Mode is cacuated in accordance with the Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) differentia of each city, based on your Home time setting. GMT differentia is cacuated by this watch based on Coordinated Universa Time (UTC*) data. * UTC is the word-wide scientific standard of timekeeping. It is based upon carefuy maintained atomic (cesium) cocks that keep time accuratey to within microseconds. Leap seconds are added or subtracted as necessary to keep UTC in sync with the Earth s rotation. The reference point for UTC is Greenwich, Engand. Power Saving Power Saving enters a seep state automaticay whenever the watch is eft for a certain period in an area where it is dark. The tabe beow shows how watch functions are affected by Power Saving. There actuay are two seep state eves: seep and function seep. Eapsed Time in Dark Operation 60 to 70 minutes ( seep) 6 or 7 days (function seep) Second ony is stopped, a other functions are enabed. A functions, incuding anaog timekeeping, disabed Interna timekeeping maintained Wearing the watch inside the seeve of cothing can cause it to enter the seep state. The watch wi not enter the seep state between 6:00 AM and 9:9 PM. If the watch is aready in the seep state when 6:00 AM arrives, however, it wi remain in the seep state. To recover from the seep state Perform any one of the foowing operations. Move the watch to a we-it area. Press any button.
