1 General information General information This document describes 2 different cable harnesses for bodywork functions, see illustration. C486 C487 C488 C494. Cable harness from cab to frame (variant family 24) 2. Extension cable harness on frame (variant family 3023) The cable harness from cab to frame is installed at the factory and runs from the bodywork console in the cab and out to the chassis frame. More information is found under the heading Cable harness from cab to frame. The extension cable harness is connected by the bodybuilder. 2 Cable harness from cab to frame Cable harness from cab to frame The signals from the bodywork console are lead out to bodywork functions on the chassis frame by means of a cable harness. The cable harness runs from connector C494 in the bodywork console to, 2 or 3 DIN connectors on the frame. The number of DIN connectors depends on how the vehicle was specified from the factory. The DIN connectors are located behind the left-hand front wheel, see illustration. All DIN connectors are 7-pin and marked according to the table. 3 If the clamping around the DIN connector cables is removed they can, depending on the cab model, reach outside of the rear cab wall. For ADR-classed vehicles, the connection of DIN connectors must be undertaken in the part of the cable duct that is covered by the cab in its down position. All conductors in the cable harness must be protected against overload by fuses or electronic overload protection. 4 Extension cable harness on the frame Extension cable harness on the frame As an option for all trucks, an ADR-classed extension cable harness is available for the further connection of DIN connectors C486, C487 and C488. The extension cables are multicore cables and are available in different lengths. More information is found under the heading Ordering options. When the truck is ordered with a factory-fitted extension cable harness, an ADRclassed junction box is included. Multicore cables that are connected via the DIN connectors must have the same markings. The individual cables in multicore cables that are connected to a DIN connector must have the same markings and colours. IMPORTANT! The cables to and from the junction box in an ADR-classed installation must also be ADR-classed. The ground connection in the junction box (ground plate in retaining screw) must only be used as a junction point The extension cable harness and junction box are not connected when the truck is delivered. If the cab is equipped with a bed, then the cable harness and junction box are located in the side compartment under the bed, otherwise they are located in front of the passenger seat.
