1 ADULT PROGRAM 6 th 13 th September 2015 idtl.net.au/events/story-arts-festival
2 IPSWICH FESTIVAL OF CHILDREN S LITERATURE The biennial Ipswich Festival of Children s began in 1995 providing FREE sessions for children and low cost session for adults and young adults with an interest in children s literature such as teachers, librarians, and emerging writers and illustrators. The festival aims to increase an awareness of the value of the arts in relation to writing and illustration and help build and maintain increased audiences for children s literature. We plan to inspire young people to buy and read more books and gain an appreciation of the processes involved in writing and illustrating. We also aim to enthuse teachers and parents about the value of stories and encourage them to promote literature to young people. The Festival is organized and funded this year by the Ipswich District Teacher-Librarian Network. The Festival will be officially opened on Saturday 5th September at the Ipswich Community Gallery where The Many Story Treehouse exhibition created by Terry Denton and children from local schools will be on display until 20 th September. It is curated by Books Illustrated. Adult Program: The adult program begins with a focus on drama on Sunday 6 th September at Ipswich Central Library and is followed by a three day conference at the Ipswich Civic Centre on the 11 th September and the Metro Hotel 12 th 13 th September. The program is designed for Teachers, Teacher-Librarians, Librarians, emerging writers and illustrators, readers and anyone with an interest in children s literature. It is an opportunity to mingle with the writers and illustrators on an informal basis. Sessions will be both hands on and presentation style. All sessions are limited in number so book early to ensure a place. A formal dinner will be held on the Saturday night with entertainment by some of the authors and illustrators. Accommodation: Limited rooms are available in Ipswich at this time because of another conference, so if you require accommodation in order to attend, please book your accommodation before booking your sessions. There should be enough rooms at Metro Hotel Ipswich on the Saturday night, but limited numbers Thursday and Friday. The Metro will offer SAFI delegates a fee of $139 including breakfast if you say you are attending the festival conference. Contact details welcome/ Alternative accommodation can be found online e.g. Oaks Aspire, which is a good walk away, or Quest apartment, another good walk away. Mary s Place is a good B&B close by, but only has about 3 rooms. Most other places you would need to drive from. The other option is if you had a car and didn t mind the drive in from Marburg, Woodlands of Marburg has top rooms at $185 and $250 and Bunya House Rooms at $125. Continental breakfast included. More accommodation can be found by looking at:
