1 6th Grade Language Arts Liza Jackson Preparatory School Summer 2018 Reading List for All 6th Grade Students Dear Rising Sixth Grade Families: Can you hear the call of the waves or anticipate the silence of the alarm clock? Sounds inviting doesn't it? Yes, summer is quickly approaching and we all are looking forward to this needed downtime to help us all recharge our batteries. And there is no greater way to recharge your energy than to escape with a great book! I am excited to announce this year s summer reading activities. Rising sixth graders will all read Red Kayak by Priscilla Cummings. The goal behind the Community Book is to offer students the opportunity to have a common thread on which to start the year s discussions. It will also expose students to titles and authors they might not have ordinarily chosen for themselves. A reading discussion and quiz for Red Kayak will take place during the week of August 20, In addition to Red Kayak, all students must read one other book of their selection. The student choice books are to be and selected by the student (students need to have practice in choosing their own books what mom likes may not be what the student likes and then the book becomes painful to read). Two graphic organizers will be required for the studentselected book and will also be due on MONDAY, AUGUST 20. As always, my goal is to promote reading for all students and continue our mutual commitment with you for high literacy standards. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me. But developers and rich families are moving into the area, and while Brady befriends some of them, like the DiAngelos, his parents and friends are bitter about the changes.
