1 STEWARDSHIP BULLETIN REFLECTIONS July 2016 September 2016 July 3, th Sunday in Ordinary Time He said to them, The harvest is abundant, but the laborers are few LUKE 10:2 As Catholics we are all called to serve in ministry. However, many of us are unsure how to use our talents and gifts to build God s Church. Talk to God and ask Him what He wants you to do. The next time one of your fellow parishioners asks you to help or join a committee, it may be the answer to your prayer. July 10, th Sunday in Ordinary Time Jesus said to him, Go and do likewise. LUKE 10:37 This was Jesus command at the end of the Good Samaritan story. But did you know that the Samaritans and Jews despised each other. The moral of the story is to love our neighbor, who may be someone you don t know, someone that looks different than you or someone you don t like, without expecting anything in return. July 17, th Sunday in Ordinary Time I am a minister in accordance with God s stewardship given to me to bring to completion for you the word of God. COLOSSIANS 1:25 Believe it or not, we are all called to evangelize to continuously grow in our knowledge and relationship with Jesus and to share it with others. We may not be called to evangelize like St. Paul, but we should look for opportunities to share our Faith with those closest to us, like our family and friends. July 24, th Sunday in Ordinary Time Ask and you will receive; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. LUKE 11:9 Jesus assures us that if we ask Him, God will take care of what we need. The problem is that in our culture we often confuse what we really need with what we simply want. Many people need very little. However, we usually want so much more. A good steward only asks God for what he needs.

2 July 31, th Sunday in Ordinary Time Take care to guard against all greed, for though one may be rich, one s life does not consist of possessions. LUKE 12:15 The Gospel message today is so contrary to our modern culture where advertising continually tries to convince us that our value lies in the things we possess. Jesus showed us that our true value lies in the way we live our lives. He challenges us to not store up or hoard material possessions, but rather to live a grateful and generous lifestyle. August 7, th Sunday in Ordinary Time For where your treasure is, there also will your heart be. LUKE 12:34 Jesus encourages us to build up our treasure in heaven. The world encourages us to build up our treasure in real estate, investments, and material goods. How much time are you investing in building up a worldly treasure? How much time are you investing in building up a heavenly treasure? To invest more time in the things of heaven, you must let go of some of the things of this world. August 14, th Sunday in Ordinary Time Do you think I have come to give you peace on Earth? No, I tell you, but rather division. LUKE 12:51 Living a stewardship lifestyle means stepping out of our comfort zone when needed. Many of us like to play it safe, not cause waves, stay in the middle of the road. In today s world we are called to be informed and take a stance for life, marriage and religious liberty. August 21, st Sunday in Ordinary Time For behold, some are last who will be first and some are first who will be last. LUKE 13:30 Our standards in our society are so different from God s standards. We often rate or rank people by what they have, how powerful they are, or how successful they are. Jesus reminds us that God will not judge us by the same earthly standards. August 28, nd Sunday in Ordinary Time Rather, when you hold a banquet, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind; blessed indeed will you be because of their inability to repay you." LUKE 14:13-14

3 We have a difficult time with the concept of giving without expecting something in return. Even when we give to charity we often want something in return a raffle ticket, a dinner, or a chance to play golf. Yet, as Christian stewards we need to remember that the true reward for our giving awaits us in heaven. September 4, rd Sunday in Ordinary Time Everyone of you who does not renounce all his possessions cannot be my disciple. LUKE 14:33 When we first hear this statement, it seems that Jesus is making an unrealistic demand upon us. How can we renounce all of our possessions? We need them to live. However, what we must renounce is the belief that they belong to us. Everything that we have belongs to God alone. All of our resources are entrusted to us not only for our own use, but also so that we can help others. Once we renounce the idea that we possess or are entitled to anything, it is much easier to share the many gifts that God has given us. Then we truly are His Disciples. September 11, th Sunday in Ordinary Time Everything I have is yours. LUKE 15:31 Our Heavenly Father gives us everything, including the chance to share in His eternal kingdom. Yet, like the Prodigal Son we are often lured away by the materialism of our society. Do we really want to turn our backs on all that God offers in exchange for a material wealth that has no lasting value? September 18, th Sunday in Ordinary Time No servant can serve two masters. He will hate one and love the other, or be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon (wealth). LUKE 16:13 Is money a god that you put before God? Giving money to support the Church and other charity is a pillar of our Faith, just like attending Mass every Sunday and participating in parish ministry. Giving money frees us from being a slave to money and increases our dependence on God and to trust that He will provide all that we need. September 25, th Sunday in Ordinary Time (Stewardship Awareness Sunday) My child, remember that you received what was good during your lifetime while Lazarus likewise received what was bad; but now he is comforted here, whereas you are tormented. Moreover, between us and you a great chasm is established LUKE 16:25-26 When God created the world He declared that it was good and He gave it to all mankind for us to enjoy. However, over the years we have created a chasm between those who have great gifts and those who do not. In today s Gospel we see that with our own generosity we must bridge that gap between those who have much and those who have little or we may find ourselves on the wrong side of the chasm in the next life.

" Lucas 10:2 Como católicos estamos llamados a servir en el ministerio. Sin embargo, muchos de nosotros no estamos seguros de cómo utilizar nuestros talentos y dones para construir la Iglesia de Dios. Habla con Dios y pregúntale lo que Él quiere que hagas. Colosenses 1:25 Lo creas o no, todos estamos llamados a evangelizar - a crecer continuamente en nuestro conocimiento y relación con Jesús y compartirlo con otros. Podemos no ser llamados a evangelizar como San Pablo, pero deberíamos buscar oportunidades para compartir nuestra Fe con quienes tenemos más cerca, como nuestra familia y amigos. 24 de julio del año domingo del tiempo ordinario "Pidan y recibirán; Busquen y encontrarán; llamen y se les abrirá la puerta." Lucas 11: 9. Jesús nos asegura que si le pedimos, Dios se encargará de lo que necesitamos. El problema es que en nuestra cultura a menudo confundimos lo que realmente necesitamos con lo que simplemente queremos. Muchas

5 personas necesitan muy poco. Sin embargo, por lo general queremos mucho más. Un buen administrador sólo pide a Dios por lo que él necesita. 31 de julio del año domingo del tiempo ordinario "Tenga cuidado de evitar toda codicia, porque aunque uno puede ser rico, la vida de cada uno no consiste en posesiones." Lucas 12:15 El mensaje del Evangelio de hoy es tan contrario a nuestra cultura moderna donde la publicidad continuamente trata de convencernos de que nuestro valor reside en las cosas que poseemos. Jesús nos mostró que nuestro verdadero valor radica en la forma en que vivimos nuestras vidas. Él nos desafía a no almacenar o acumular posesiones materiales, sino más bien a vivir un estilo de vida agradecido y generoso. 7 de agosto del año domingo del tiempo ordinario "Porque donde esté tu tesoro, también allí estará tu corazón." Lucas 12:34 Jesús nos anima a construir nuestro tesoro en el cielo. El mundo nos anima a construir nuestro tesoro en bienes raíces, inversiones y bienes materiales. Cuánto tiempo estás invirtiendo en la construcción de un tesoro terrenal? Cuánto tiempo estás invirtiendo en la construcción de un tesoro celestial? Para invertir más tiempo en las cosas del cielo, debes dejar de lado algunas de las cosas de este mundo. 14 de agosto del año domingo del tiempo ordinario " Creen que he venido para establecer la paz en la Tierra? Les digo que no, sino la división." Lucas 12:51 Un estilo de vida de servicio significa salir de nuestra zona de confort cuando sea necesario. A muchos de nosotros nos gusta jugar a seguro, no hacer olas, permanecer en el medio de la carretera. En el mundo de hoy estamos llamados a estar informados y a tomar una postura para la vida, el matrimonio y la libertad religiosa. 21 de agosto del año domingo del tiempo ordinario "Porque los últimos serán primeros, y los primeros serán los últimos." Lucas 13:30 Los estándares en nuestra sociedad son tan diferentes de las normas de Dios. A menudo calificamos o damos rangos a las personas por lo que tienen, por lo poderosos que son, o por el éxito que tienen. Jesús nos recuerda que Dios no nos va a juzgar por los mismos estándares de la Tierra.

6 28 de agosto del año domingo del tiempo ordinario "Más bien, cuando des un banquete, invita a los pobres, a los lisiados, a los cojos, a los ciegos y serás felíz porque ellos no tienen con qué pagarte. " Lucas 14:13-14 Es difícil entender el concepto de dar sin esperar nada a cambio. Incluso cuando damos para caridad muchas veces queremos algo a cambio - un boleto de rifa, una cena, o una oportunidad de jugar al golf. Sin embargo, como servidores cristianos tenemos que recordar que la verdadera recompensa por lo que damos nos espera en el cielo. 4 de septiembre del año domingo del tiempo ordinario "Cualquiera de ustedes que no renuncie a todos sus bienes, no puede ser mi discípulo." Lucas 14:33 La primera vez que oímos esta afirmación, parece que Jesús está pidiendo algo irreal. Cómo podemos renunciar a todas nuestras posesiones? Las necesitamos para vivir. Sin embargo, a lo que tenemos que renunciar es a la creencia de que nos pertenecen. Todo lo que tenemos pertenece sólo a Dios. Todos los recursos se nos confían, no sólo para nuestro propio uso, sino también para que podamos ayudar a los demás. Una vez que renunciamos a la idea de que poseemos o tenemos derecho a algo, es mucho más fácil compartir los numerosos dones que Dios nos ha dado. Entonces realmente somos Sus discípulos. 11 de septiembre del año domingo del tiempo ordinario "Todo lo que tengo es tuyo." Lucas 15:31 Nuestro Padre Celestial nos lo da todo, incluyendo la oportunidad de compartir su reino eterno. Sin embargo, somos como el hijo pródigo que a menudo somos atraídos por el materialismo de nuestra sociedad. Realmente queremos dar la espalda a todo lo que Dios nos ofrece a cambio del bienestar material que no tiene valor duradero? 18 de septiembre del año domingo del tiempo ordinario "Ningún siervo puede servir a dos señores. Porque aborrecerá a uno y amará al otro, o se apegará a uno y despreciará al otro. No se puede servir a Dios y a las riquezas." Lucas 16:13 Es el dinero un "dios" que se pone delante de Dios? Dar dinero para apoyar a la Iglesia y otras caridades es un pilar de nuestra Fe, así como asistir a misa todos los domingos y participar en el ministerio parroquial. Dar dinero

7 nos libera de ser un esclavo del dinero y aumenta nuestra dependencia en Dios y confiar en que Él proveerá todo lo que necesitamos. 25 de septiembre del año domingo del tiempo ordinario (Administración de la conciencia del domingo) "Hijo, recuerda que recibiste lo que fue bueno durante toda tu vida, mientras que Lázaro, recibió lo que era malo; pero ahora éste es consolado aquí, mientras que tú sufres. Por otra parte, entre nosotros y ustedes hay un gran abismo... " Lucas 16: Cuando Dios creó el mundo Él declaró que era bueno y se lo dio a toda la humanidad para que lo disfrutáramos. Sin embargo, a lo largo de los años hemos creado una brecha entre los que tienen grandes regalos y los que no los tienen. En el Evangelio de hoy vemos que con nuestra propia generosidad debemos cerrar esa brecha entre los que tienen mucho y los que tienen poco o nos podemos encontrar en el lado equivocado del abismo en la próxima vida.

August 7, 2016 That we may invest more time and talent in building up a treasure in heaven. August 14, 2016 That we have the courage to step out of our comfort zone and stand up for life, marriage and religious liberty. August 21, 2016 That through our good stewardship, we may build up God s kingdom here on earth and earn a place at God s eternal banquet. August 28, 2016 That through our generous giving, we can help those in need share in the gifts that God has bestowed on us. September 4, 2016 That we may come to realize everything we have is a gift from God and we are called to generously share these gifts. September 11, 2016 That we may understand we have a responsibility to work in God s kingdom and spread God s love throughout our world. September 18, 2016 That we recognize everything we have is a gift from God, including our money, and to generously share our wealth to support the mission of our Church, locally and around the world. September 25, 2016 That our eyes may be open to the needs around us and our hands and hearts may be open to sharing our gifts to make this world a better place for all of us.

9 Oraciones de los fieles Julio Septiembre de julio de 2016 Que le pidamos a Dios cómo debemos utilizar nuestros talentos y luego tener el valor de hacerlo. 10 de julio de 2016 Para que nos esforcemos por ser más como el buen samaritano, ayudando a los necesitados, sin esperar nada a cambio. 17 de julio de 2016 Para que busquemos oportunidades para compartir nuestra fe con aquellos más cercanos a nosotros. 24 de julio de 2016 Para que podamos aprender a ver la diferencia entre las cosas simples que necesitamos y las muchas cosas que queremos. 31 de julio de 2016 Para que podemos recordar que todos los bienes que nos esforzamos para adquirir no tienen ningún valor a los ojos del Señor. 7 de agosto de 2016 Para que podamos invertir más tiempo y talento en la construcción de un tesoro en el cielo. 14 de agosto de 2016 Para que tengamos el coraje de salir de nuestra zona de confort y luchar por la vida, el matrimonio y la libertad religiosa. 21 de agosto de 2016 Para que a través de nuestro servicio, podamos edificar el reino de Dios aquí en la tierra y ganarnos un lugar en el banquete eterno de Dios. 28 de agosto de 2016 Para que a través de nuestra generosa donación, podamos ayudar a aquellos que lo necesitan y a compartir los dones que Dios nos ha concedido. 4 de septiembre de 2016 Que podamos darnos cuenta de que todo lo que tenemos es un regalo de Dios y estamos llamados a compartir generosamente estos dones. 11 de septiembre de 2016 Para que entendamos que tenemos la responsabilidad de trabajar por el reino de Dios y difundir el amor de Dios a través de nuestro mundo.

10 18 de septiembre de 2016 Para que reconozcamos que todo lo que tenemos es un regalo de Dios, incluyendo nuestro dinero, y para que generosamente compartamos nuestra riqueza para apoyar la misión de nuestra Iglesia, a nivel local y en todo el mundo. 25 de septiembre de 2016 Para que nuestros ojos puedan estar abiertos a las necesidades a nuestro alrededor y nuestras manos y corazones pueden estar abiertos a compartir nuestros dones para hacer de este mundo un mejor lugar para todos.
