In honor of these two special occasions, the Boca Raton Concours d Elegance is planning a variety of new and exciting events designed to provide incredible marketing opportunities for our sponsors. Each year, the Boca Raton Concours d Elegance welcomes thousands of automobile enthusiasts from around the world. The weekend kicks off with Friday night s dupont Registry Live Hangar Party, a wine and food festival featuring a selection of the world s finest exotic cars, boats, jet aircraft, motorcycles and motorcoaches. This year we will present a special display of vintage Indy race cars and memorabilia. Over the years, this event has been attended by the Who s Who of South Florida s elite and has become one of the season s biggest media events. On Saturday night, during the Concours Gala dinner, auction & show, featuring celebrated comedian and America s number one Car Guy Jay Leno, we will celebrate the 100th Anniversary of the Indianapolis 500 with the Legends of Indy Awards. This year, for the first time ever, we will honor the best of the best to ever win at the Brickyard including the Unser family, A.J. Foyt, Rick Mears, Helio Castroneves, Roger Penske, Honda, and Firestone. The evening s festivities will also include the presentation of the Automotive Lifetime Achievement Award to H. Wayne Huizenga, founder of AutoNation, the nation s largest automotive retailer. Past recipients have included Roger Penske, Bobby Rahal and Mike Jackson, the Chairman and CEO of AutoNation. Plus, the Lee Iacocca Award will be given to Jay Leno for his extraordinary dedication to the preservation of classic cars. During the live auction, guests will have the opportunity to own the first of some of the very first all new exotic and luxury cars produced in the world, as well as vintage Indy race cars. In the past two years, we ve auctioned off the first Audi R8 V10 and Spyder, the Ferrari California and 458 Italia and the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Gullwing. No great Gala would be complete without a celebrity entertainer, and, over the years, the Boca Raton Concours d Elegance has had some of the greats. From Jay Leno and Bill Cosby to Howie Mandel and Dennis Miller, giants of the entertainment industry have graced our stage and helped earn millions of dollars for the kids of the Boys & Girls Clubs. On Sunday, Concours day, we celebrate the grand history of the automobile. On this day that is synonymous with excellence, class and style, there are countless marketing opportunities. With the dawn of the space age, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers needed a heavy-duty truck to THE RACE TO REsTORE A spa ACE AgE dream. help search the backcountry of North Dakota for Minuteman missile silo sites. They chose this 1954 International Harvester Model R-140 Station Wagon for the job. It s speculated that this 4x4 limited production premier truck was used by officials, rather than workmen or surveyors because of its expense. The total price was over $4,500 and the U.S. Army purchased three of them. The Harvester was built by Midstate Body Company of Waterloo, New York. The Silver Diamond engine has a four-speed manual transmission, 240 cid engine upgrade, and it could carry a 2,500 pound payload. It featured a raised suspension and a front bumper-mounted winch, in case it ever got stuck in the mud. It has a cruising speed of 45 mph and a top speed of approximately 60 mph. The Woodie station wagon was found behind a barn in Montana and had a complete frame off restoration, rebuilt down to the last bolt in It took 18 months to restore this unique wagon to its original splendor. The original engine was still intact and there were approximately 41,000 miles on the truck. When the truck was found, the original doors were recovered along with the left rear quarter panel. Almost all of the other important elements were there, but in extremely weathered condition. n.
