1 Apeejay School, Saket Holiday Homework ( ) Class III As the holidays have begun, it s time for us to have some fun, We will make new friends and play a lot of games, Spend time with them and know their names, We will sleep on time and rise with the bright sun, As the holidays have begun, it s time for us to have fun Dear children, It is holiday time once again! The time we all look forward to. Summer vacations are a fun time to be spent with family and friends. So go ahead and enjoy with your parents, grandparents and friends. Also remember to read books, work on your handwriting and practice Mathematics daily. We have put together some interesting work for you to do during the vacations. Kindly keep in mind the following points while doing your holiday homework. Read all the instructions carefully. Be creative, innovative and imaginative. Do all the work in loose A 4 sheets as per the colour code given below.. English pink Mathematics yellow Hindi blue EVS/ Science green Social Science white Computer in the worksheet itself Staple them separately subject wise and write your name on the first page of each subject. Arrange them in a self designed folder. Bring the holiday home work with you when you come on July,4,2016. ENGLISH Writer in Me a) Write a composition on any one of the following topics. TOPICS What if there were no plants around us. (what would you eat,how will you breathe,how would your surroundings look like,how would animals and birds live,how would you feel, )
2 If I was a plant or an animal. (which plant/animal would you like to be,what would you do,what would you eat,where would you live) Also draw the plant /animal. b) Beauty is all around us.it s just that we need to observe and appreciate the beauty of the wonderful nature. So it s time for us to move out from the world of computers, I Pads, mobiles and move closer to the nature. Go to a park/ garden and observe the things around you, note down the words that come to your mind. Using these words, create a story or a poem during the vacation. 2.Let Us Read Read any two stories from the Panchatantra Series. On an A4 sheet Draw a picture of your favourite character from each of the story and write about the character. Write 5 new words from each of the story. Find the meaning of the words and frame sentence using the words. 3. Make Words Some words have split into three parts and have shuffled into three columns. Make words by joining these parts from column A, B and C to form complete word and write them in column D. Interesting Sentences We can make sentence more interesting by adding describing words. Enjoy playing a sentence making game with your parents. One has been done for you. It Was A Wind I felt a strong air on my hair oh! it was a wind side by side, the leaves sway and sway yesterday was a windy day! I felt a strong breeze on my knees oh! it was a wind! it blew harder and harder as it can, until the heat of the sun was gone! The kids that play on the ground come running and stepping with sound the kites that fly so high, made the children laugh and sigh! I felt a strong air on my hair, I felt a strong breeze on my knees and then I realized, oh! it was a wind. SCIENCE Your topic for Jigyasa is: Nurture Nature. 1) Take a walk around the Lodhi Garden early in the morning.enjoy the lush green lawns and cool breeze. Take your binoculars with you to observe birds. Write the names of the birds which you could observe.you may refer to the massive board which has the names of various birds found there. You may take some packed breakfast with you. Also observe birds that frequent the park where you play. Write their names. Either draw or paste their pictures. Find and write about the food they eat and the type of nests they make. You may keep a bowl of water and some grains in your balcony or Varandah. If possible take some pictures of your flying friends.
5 2) Herbs are very easy to grow with a little sunshine, soil that drains well, some watering, and a little fertilizer or compost. Herbs can be grown in pots. Make your own herbal garden in a pot.you may grow some mint, corriander, tulsi, methi. To grow methi, soak the seeds overnight and sow them. Nurture your pot for the Jigyasa exhibition. File your picture with your herbal pot. MATHS I. Pots of Gold Coins Observe the numbers written on the coins and complete the following : (i) Draw an abacus on the coloured A4 size sheets to depict all ten numerals written on the gold coins.you may use any material of your choice like small buttons, pulses, bindis etc. One example is given below. If the number is 5923, it can be shown on the abacus using the beads. (ii) Express the numbers in expanded form. (iii) Arrange them in ascending and descending order. (iv)write the three successor and three predecessor of each number. II. Learn tables from 2 to 10.
6 III.Solve and then colour according to the given colour code. IV.Each hexagon is made by adding up the numbers in the two hexagons below it. Fill in the missing numbers in these puzzles. V. Write the numbers 10,20,30,40,60,70 and 80 in the correct place so that each side of the square adds up to 150.
