5 Monologues For Girls: Bright Lights and Pearly Whites (for age 11 and under) (Lilly really wants a make-up mirror with lights so she can look closely at her reflection) You know how bad I've wanted that make-up mirror with the lights, right? I mean, you have one and so do Missy andjen and Kelly. Well I saved twenty dollars that I got for my birthday, but I still needed five more. I was racking my brains, trying to figure out how I could get the rest. Then it dawned on me! I had a couple of loose teeth and my mom gives me $1.50 for each tooth. So I got some taffy and stuffed a big glob of it in my mouth. And it worked! One of my teeth fell out! So I kept chewing and chewing, and before I knew it, all four loose teeth came out! My mom gave me six dollars and I ran to the store and bought the make-up mirror. I was so excited! But when I got home and looked in it with those bright lights, my mouth looked like the Grand Canyon! I'm never smiling again! Now will you please come with me to return the stupid mirror? Meredith In English Class (for all ages) Before I give my report, I want to say that I am not kissing up. Okay. Here goes. "My hero," by Meredith. My hero is my English teacher Mrs. Xander. Mrs. Xander is the best teacher I've ever had. In fact, I know for a fact that she is the best teacher in the entire school! Last week I made a web page for her and I wrote what a great teacher Mrs. Xander is. And people from all around the world have ed me back. And they say that they wish they had Mrs. Xander for their teacher. So I think Mrs. Xander is probably the best teacher in the world! I know a lot of students in this class are puzzled why I picked Mrs. Xander for my report. Why didn't I pick someone else like Mother Teresa, Princess Diana, or Oprah? Well, let me tell you. Those people are very important but not as important as Mrs. Xander. Everyday Mrs. Xander comes into this class and tries to teach us. And it's not her fault we never learn anything. It's not her fault that English is boring. It's not her fault that she talks so soft it puts us to sleep. If I listened to her I bet I would've gotten an A last semester instead of a D plus. Listen, I gotta get rid of the monster myself because my mom doesn't believe me. (points) See that stupid Barney night-light? She thinks that scared it off already. Of course, I heard the monster laughing at it the other night. You know, like (imitates evil laugh). But I've got a plan, Joey, and I need your help. The monster lives in the space between the bed and the floor. If there is no space, then there is no monster. Got it? Good. Now, stand up on the bed with me, this is for a good cause. Remember, we're stronger than the bed frame. All right....ready...set...jummm - (starts to jump but stops) Hi Mom. Gary's Dream (for all ages) My dream is to be in Guinness Book of World Records. I don't care what for. I just want to be in it. I thought about bouncing a ball against a wall or something. But the guy who has the record for that did it for over a week. And a week is too long. I need my sleep. Then I thought about eating the most pancakes, so I had my mom make me 5

6 15 pancakes to practice. The record is seventy-seven. And after my eleventh pancake I barfed everywhere. My mom was not happy. So it can't be that. Then I'm flipping through the book and I see this record for the fastest talker, and I can definitely talk fast! So, I've been working on it for about a month and I'm getting really quick. I called up the Guinness people and they said you have to say as many tongue twisters as you can in sixty-seconds. You want to time me? Okay, I'll hold my hand up, and when I drop it, go. Ready. Set. Go! (starts talking fast) The big black bug bit the big black bear and made the big black bear bleed blood. Whether the weather is cold or whether the weather is hot. We will be together whatever the weather, whether you like it or not. Peter Piper, the pepper picker, picked a peck of pickled peppers. For either Girl or Boy: At The Spelling Bee (for ages 11and under) He's guessing! I know he's guessing. Please, please let me win. Please! I want five minutes! Just five minutes when all the lights are on me, and all the pictures are being taken of me, and for five minutes I'm the most famous child in America, and Mom and Dorothea see it! After that you can wash me back into the ocean with everybody else. I'll just be one of the rabble, hoi polloi, the clamjamfry, the... What? Excuse me, could you repeat the word? Clamjamfry? I don't believe itl She asked me the exact word I was thinking of! Clamjamfry. C-L-A-M-J-A-M-F-R-Y. Clamjamfry. I know everything in the world! In Math Class (for all ages) Excuse me Mr. Gahan? Can I ask you a question? Yeah, it's about my math test. You gave me an A. And I was kind of wondering why. 'Cause, you see, I got ALL the answers right. And when someone gets ALL the answers right, aren't they supposed to get an A plus? I'm just asking 'cause, if you made a mistake, then hey, that's cool. Here's my paper, you can change it. But if you left off the plus part just because last week I backed into your car in the parking lot, well, that doesn't seem fair. By the way, aren't you a little too old to be driving a convertible? Come on, Mr. Gahan, you're not a teenager any more. Get yourself a minivan or something. Old men in convertibles are kind of lame. Not that you're old or anything. Well, you're older than me. A lot older. But... anyway, back to my grade. I think I deserve an A plus. Good work deserves good grades. That's what Miss Dean always says. Of course, you know that, because I always see you over at her class flirting with her. Come on, Mr. Gahan. Isn't she a little out of your league? I mean, for an English teacher, she's a babe.
