2 WELCOME! Summer 2017 at the Gaiety School of Acting brought an astounding 443 children between the age of 4 and 18 through our doors, and with them fun, colour and a lot of noise... We see a great deal of creativity and activity throughout the year at the school, but summer brings with it an energy like no other, and I for one cannot wait for that unparalleled hum of excitement to return with gusto for 2018! Once again we have an explosion of creativity on the agenda, with brand new camps themed on children s favourites including Moana, High School Musical, The Greatest Showman, Paw Patrol and Stranger Things; all of which are sure to delight. I m particularly interested in our new Acting for Young Adults programme - a week long course which invites teens to interrogate contemporary Irish Theatre, will see them dissecting and presenting dynamic scenes for showcase, and includes a backstage visit to a city centre theatre before taking their seats for a play. We programme these courses with a view to continuing to inspire young people and encourage their interest in culture, arts and the world around them - something we ve been doing very successfully for 32 years now. As always we also have an eclectic programme of courses for adults running throughout the summer. Our Acting for Beginners course booked out solidly last year - so if you re interested, don t hang around! We also see the return of our ever popular Acting for Camera and Stand-Up Comedy courses. New in 2018, The Confidence Edge evening course has been booked out every term, and returns for the summer to instil you with a power and a presence which, have no doubt, have always been there, but which may need the tools to be freed! As you join us this summer, and indeed within the pages of this brochure and online, you may notice our new look. As we enter our thirties, we ve matured, evolved and grown, and with that we ve been working for the past few years on a new way of communicating GSA s ongoing excellence, professionalism and ethos of confidence and creativity, in a clearer and more decisive fashion. FAMILY DISCOUNT When two family members are attending GSA courses, both can avail of a 10% discount. When three or more are attending, the discount rises to 15% (applies to Young Gaiety only). EASY PAY OPTIONS We offer a number of payment options to make it as easy as possible for you to enrol in a GSA course. You can spread the payment over weekly or monthly instalments throughout the course with our interest free direct debit payment plan. These courses provide you with the opportunity to progress from beginners to a more advanced level, as you work with tutors with many years working professionally as actors in addition to teaching the craft. 4 5 6 ACTING FOR CAMERA 1 Working with experienced and knowledgable tutors you will learn the craft of acting for camera, concentrating on putting together the basic techniques required to deliver effective performances on screen. This eight week course provides participants who have already learned core acting techniques an opportunity to explore the similarities and differences between stage and screen acting. The course focuses on the development of physical, vocal and emotional techniques required by film. 8 SHAKESPEARE SCHOOLS PROGRAMME The Shakespeare Schools Programme is now in its seventh year and is delighted to be bringing Macbeth to Leaving Cert students across the country in its national tour to Dublin, Athlone and Cork. Shows take place every day at 9.30am and 1pm and all bookings include a traditional production of Macbeth (1.5 hrs), a post-show workshop (1 Hr) with a chance to engage with members of the cast and crew, a student workbook and pre-show video. 9 YOUNG GAIETY OVERVIEW: The ethos of Young Gaiety is Confidence and Creativity, two elements that underpin every summer camp we offer. All our camps are led by trained facilitators with many years experience working with young children. This camp is a chance to bring characters and stories of this all-time favourite movie to life! Camp participants are taught acting skills and encouraged to expand their imaginations as they work together on a Star Wars themed end of week showcase for friends and family. Throughout the week camp participants will be coached in acting, dance and singing before presenting a showcase to parents which will include scenes from the likes of Grease, Wicked, Hairspray, Mary Poppins, West Side Story, High School Musical and The Lion King. The group will work with their tutors to develop an end of week showcase for family members, inspired by the iconic Jack Black movie School of Rock. Led by experts in the film industry, using hi-spec equipment, campers are taught character development, screenwriting, storyboarding and camera styles. All campers will also be involved in costume workshops and have their make-up done by a Special FX Make-up Artist. At the end of the camp you will receive a link to the completed movie! WHODUNNIT Ages 7-10/11-13 It was Professor Peach, with the bow and arrow, in the basement! Don your detective hat and get in the director s chair for a mysterious movie-making Camp! Drawing on appropriate film styles and led by industry experts, this camp includes coaching in acting, screenwriting, dialogue scripting and how to shoot a short film. Each student will be sent a link to their movie! HARRY POTTER Ages 7-10/11-13 Get lost in the Wizarding World - join us for a Harry Potter themed course in film-making at the former school of Percival Graves himself (aka Colin Farrell!). Led by professional film industry magic-makers, campers are taught character development, screenwriting, storyboarding, camera styles, costume workshops and a link to your completed movie to show friends and family. STOP MOTION ANIMATION Ever dreamed of creating your own fantastical animated film? Animation allows us to make a film where anything we can dream of can happen! Come up with a plot, make a storyboard, create your characters and shoot a movie in this stop-motion animation camp! We will send you a link to your completed film to share with family and friends. This Summer, we are offering parents the opportunity to work our camps around your work day. We will be offering early drop off from 9am and allowing you to pick your child up as late as 4pm. Our Child Protection Trained and Garda Vetted staff members will supervise your child. Children will be entertained with art activities, movies and board games. 12 ACTING FOR TEENS: AGES 13+ CASTING CALL 13+ Responding to the demands of our Young Gaiety students, we have developed this exciting and intensive week long programme for those of you who are keen to learn more about the acting industry and how to get work as a young professional actor. Participants will work with tutors from our Two Year Full-time Programme on sight reading, audition technique and acting for camera. Casting directors from LK Casting will impart the knowledge you require to grab their attention, nail the audition and land the part. ACTING FOR YOUNG ADULTS 13-15/16-19 We invite eager acting students to delve into the culture and practice of Contemporary Irish Theatre. Actors are immersed into exciting and dynamic scenes from famous and influential Irish playwrights and work towards the end of week showcase. This course includes a theatre visit at a Dublin city centre theatre. ACTING FOR CAMERA 13+ This Summer, make the most of your break by improving your acting skills and learning how to hone your talent for TV and film. We have been training actors for 32 years and the combination of our experienced tutors and quality equipment makes this the number one place to train as a young actor. This intensive course is taught by tutors not only experienced in the field of film making, but who also have worked with young people for a number of years, and so you are guaranteed a course which is fun and engaging in addition to highly informative and challenging. STRANGER THINGS: FILM-MAKING 13+ This Summer delve into the upside down with the GSA! Working with experts in the film industry, the group will create their own Stranger Things style short film. Drawing on appropriate film styles and led by industry professionals, this camp includes coaching in acting, screenwriting and dialogue scripting. Each student will be sent a link to their movie to show family and friends. Throughout the week camp participants will be coached in acting, dance and singing before presenting a showcase to friends and family which will include scenes from the likes of Grease, Wicked, Hairspray, Mary Poppins, West Side Story, High School Musical and The Lion King WICKED 13+ This week is a wonderful chance to work with our skilled Musical Theatre tutors to produce a mini-musical. Using scenes and songs from famed Broadway musical Wicked, our tutors put players through their paces in a number of Musical Theatre focused disciplines. Act, sing and dance in the end of week showcase for friends and family! *This week includes a visit to Wicked in the Bord Gais Energy Theatre GREATEST SHOWMAN 13+ Look out world cause here you come! This camp will draw on scenes, themes and characters from the hit of the year - Greatest Showman! Participants will work with our skilled tutors to develop their abilities in singing, dance and acting while having fun with a group of like-minded people. The week ends with a showcase for family members. HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL 13+ Don t stick to the Status Quo and get ready to Bop to the Top this summer at GSA as we flash back to the High School Musical days! 13 TRIPLE THREAT BOOTCAMP: AGES 13+ THREE WEEK INTENSIVE Be the best - be a Triple Threat! This three week intensive course is designed for the serious student who wishes to hone their talent this summer. With modules including singing, various dance styles, acting and devising, teens will culminate this camp with increased skills and creativity in everything needed to be a performer to be reckoned with. The course will culminate in a showcase for family and friends. *The course includes a trip to Wicked in the Bord Gais Energy Theatre Ages 13+ Dates: 16th July - 3rd August Times: 10am-4pm Fee: I just loved it, and can honestly say I had the best summer of my life. I made forever friends who I just totally clicked with, and was so sad when it was all over. Love love loved it! For those students who wish to engage with the industry and take part in theatre, film & television auditions this is the opportunity. Auditioning is a big part of an actor s life, not to mention that it can help develop lifelong skills. Membership to the agency is FREE OF CHARGE but will incur 20% of total payment of all work secured through us. To avoid disappointment please note there is no guarantee of work or interest from external casting directors. Parents are required to fill out a membership form and supply one 8 x 10 colour headshot (JPEG) that will be uploaded to our agency webpage.
