2 SHARING THE MAGIC OF live theatre BY PRESIDENT CURT SCHROEDER As I write this, The Wizard of Oz has just closed and The Addams Family will soon open. Every performance of Oz was a sellout, with a waiting list an arm long. Well, perhaps not that long, but long enough to leave people disappointed but eager to see what comes next. With each year that passes, the word spreads further of The Acting Company s commitment of sharing the joy of live theater within our community. And joyful it is. We have grown to be a magnet for actors, house managers, stage managers, carpenters, directors, light and sound technicians and many more. To many, we are a home. Children literally grow up in our theater, beginning with Magic Theatre and ending with Main Stage productions. Then they are off to new journeys, equipped with the confidence and discipline needed to succeed at whatever comes next. Often, parents become involved with The Acting Company and remain after their children are off to college and careers. The talent in our community is amazing. It no longer surprises me to discover that someone new to our theater has extensive experience, occasionally bringing a college degree as well. But the main goal of our theater is to bring delight, whether through laughter, tears or thoughtful reflection, to you, our audience. We are, first and foremost, a community theater, your community theater. Join us, whether backstage, on the stage, or in the audience, in sharing the joy of live theater. We request you park in the Yuba City High School staff parking lot, which is slightly west of the theater, or on the south side of B Street, across from the theater. Latecomer Seating: As a courtesy to our audience and performers, late arrivals will be seated at an appropriate time. Call (530) if you are running late. we frequently have sold-out performances, with patrons waiting in the lobby for seats to become available. If we do not hear from you by opening curtain time, your ticket may be cancelled and re-sold. You may always, in advance make arrangements to change your ticket to a later date. Children: In consideration of other patrons, children under four, including babies in arms, will not be admitted to the theater for Main Stage productions. For our Magic Theatre productions, please use your best judgement when bringing children under four years of age. No photographic/recording equipment, cell phones, tablets, etc., may be active.

The show's unconventional structure consists of Cathy, the woman, telling her story backwards while Jamie, the man, tells his story chronologically; the two characters only meet once, at their wedding in the middle of the show.

6 Calendar Girls Calendar Girls by Tim Firth DIRECTED BY: PAT HILL AUDITIONS: January 29 & 30 PERFORMANCES: MARCH 23 - APRIL 15 Best friends Annie and Chris manage to persuade four fellow Women s Institute members to pose nude with them for an "alternative" calendar, with a little help from hospital porter and amateur photographer Lawrence. The news of the women's charitable venture spreads like wildfire, and hordes of press soon descend on the small village of Knapeley in the Yorkshire Dales, England. The calendar is a success, but Chris and Annie's friendship is put to the test under the strain of their new-found fame. Based on the true story. With a script by Tim Firth who also co-wrote the movie, it is a show full of poignant moments. Calendar Girls achieves exactly what it sets out to do. It makes you laugh, it makes you cry, and it leaves you feeling better about life than you did when you entered the theater. Annual Concert GERSHWIN AND FRIENDS DIRECTED BY: CURT SCHROEDER PERFORMANCES: APRIL Everyone recognizes a Gershwin song even if not everyone can say who wrote it. United Airlines even used the composer s Rhapsody in Blue in one of its longest running commercial themes. Gershwin s songbook is a thick one so selecting music from it for a fundraising event was no easy chore. But the job is done and the result is sure to be a feast for the musical ear. Before the main course is served, there will be appetizers made of songs from Cole Porter, Duke Ellington and George M. Cohan. Mark your calendar now for an evening of music, food and fun.

Priestley, AN INSPECTOR CALLS is a darkly sinister play which is widely considered to be a classic in mid-20th century contemporary theatre. Set in Brumley, a fictional industrial city in the midlands, a wealthy upper-middle class family s dinner party is interrupted when they receive an unexpected visit from the mysterious Inspector Goole. Soon, the entire family is questioned about potential involvement in the death of Eva Smith, a young and innocent working-class lady. Following lengthy interrogation, the audience is forced to question their own conscience as the investigation reaches a terrifying climax. Directed by David Wheeler need we say more? The streets of Victorian England come to life as Oliver, a malnourished orphan in a workhouse, becomes the neglected apprentice of an undertaker. Oliver escapes to London and finds acceptance amongst a group of petty thieves and pickpockets led by the elderly Fagin. When Oliver is captured for a theft that he did not commit, the benevolent victim, Mr. Brownlow takes him in. Fearing the safety of his hideout, Fagin employs the sinister Bill Sikes and the sympathetic Nancy to kidnap him back, threatening Oliver s chances of discovering the true love of a family. OLIVER! is a musical theatre masterpiece, perfectly showcasing the talents of our large ensemble cast as they bring these classic characters and score to life.

The score, by Jule Styne and Stephen Sondheim, boasts one glorious hit after another, including: Let Me Entertain You, Some People, You ll Never Get Away from Me, If Momma Was Married, All I Need Is the Girl, Everything s Coming Up Roses, You Gotta Get A Gimmick, Small World and Together Wherever We Go. SHERLOCK HOLMES AND THE CASE OF THE CHRISTMAS CAROL DIRECTED BY: CORINNA HAYES & TALIA BAXTER AUDITIONS: SEPTEMBER 24 & 25 PERFORMANCES: NOVEMBER 29 - DECEMBER 16 Thursday-Friday-Saturday-Sunday These then are the facts: The year, The date, Christmas Eve. The location, 221B Baker Street. After being presumed dead for three years, a hardened Sherlock Holmes resurfaces, turning his back on the people who need him most three unexpected callers arrive on Christmas Eve uncovering clues from the detective s past, present and future.
