3 Production Team DIRECTOR/ MUSICAL DIRECTOR- John Forbes ( ) CHOREOGRAPHER- Alan Dunk ASSISTANT DIRECTOR/ STAGE MANAGER- Jared Camilleri COSTUME CO-ORDINATOR- Bethany Taylor Welcome Welcome to the New & Used Productions Inc. s 2016 production of Rodgers and Hammerstein s. New & Used is very excited to have the opportunity to present one of the world s most beloved fairy tales in the January 2016 school holidays, starring a cast of youth aged between 13 and 25 years of age. The show features many excellent roles for both males and females. The leads of course are the iconic roles of, Prince Charming, the Wicked Stepmother, the jealous Stepsisters and the enchanting Fairy Godmother. But Rodgers and Hammerstein s production features other excellent roles including the King and Queen as well as their hilarious steward Lionel. In total, New & Used would like a cast of 26. This will include the six leads with an ensemble of 20 that will also include the understudy roles. There will be a waiting list for unsuccessful auditionees who are still interested in participating in the production should someone drop out during the production period. At New & Used we believe that the understudies deserve to be recognized for their enormous contribution to the production, learning both their ensemble material as well as that of their understudy lead role. Therefore, all understudies are guaranteed two performances out of the total nine. Finally, it is important that all auditionees look carefully at the Show Timeline on the following page, to ensure they are aware of the commitment they are undertaking. Most rehearsals take place between the hours of 10am and 4pm on a Sunday weekly. However, for the leads and during the final weeks of rehearsal other days are also required. Please ensure you are happy to attend these rehearsals before committing to the production. Once again, welcome to New & Used Productions Inc. and best wishes for your upcoming audition. Regards John Forbes and The New & Used Productions Inc. Team. 2

I like to sit by the fire and the cinders fly in. my face gets smudged. Oh. Cinder- Ella, I like it. It grows on you I-I- I guess. Please excuse me. (goes to leave) Wait. Tell me, how would a man find himself in your good graces? Who wants to know? Let s just say a charming stranger. Well this charming stranger seems very sure of himself. But he d have to get to know me a lot better than some girl he just met on the street. Oh well he d like to very much. Well I don t know if I want to meet this charming stranger. I doubt he knows how a girl should be treated. Like a Princess I suppose? 10
12 No. Like a person with kindness and respect. You re not like most girls are you? What do you mean? Oh nothing. I m sorry. I didn t mean to offend you. That s alright. I ve just lived a very sheltered life. Me too. Really? Every day the same old routine. Till you just want to run away? And never come back! (smiles) I d like to see you again. Stepmother, Stepsisters & Stepmother Grace Joy Grace Joy Grace Stepmother Stepmother Oh I am exhausted. I m tired to mother. You re tired? Yes I m tired! my hat! ( takes it) my gloves! (sighs) I ve always been told I ve got to big a heart). You ve got to big a heart mother. We ll have our tea upstairs. We must prepare for the ball tonight. Mother! I ve been working on my naturally infectious laughter. Excuse me? Tonight I will laugh infectiously at all the Princes jokes (starts to laugh and then snorts) I beg you Grace whatever you do! Try not to snort! (looks to her other daughter) And what will you do Joy? Well you said to show him there s more to me than pure beauty so I thought I would recite a poem. A POEM! What s wrong with that? Whatever you do girls you mustn t show the Prince how clever you are. Men can t stand to be around smart women. Yes mother. The problem with most people is they dream about doing something instead of really doing it. I know what you re going to say Fal-der-al and fiddlede-de. (sighs) It s impossible. But don t you see. Impossible things are happening every day. But if impossible things are happening every day why shouldn t I dream- even something as impossible as going to the ball? Then go to the ball! Go! But, BUT, BUT! (Starts to hyperventilate) Chris. All your mother and I want is for you to be happy. Happiness has nothing to do with it! I mean I want you to be happy but you do have certain obligations. What your mother is trying to say is we think it s time you chose a bride and produced an heir. One day soon this whole kingdom will be yours. Not that soon! Your majesties I agree that the Prince should go to the ball tonight. Traitor! I like the way this sounds. 14

I just want to feel like a real person. Listen to me your highness, real people are not all they are cracked up to be! Look at me. I am a real person. What does that tell you? Believe me they are all out there wishing they could be you. Because they have NO IDEA what it s actually like. Help me out please. You live in a gorgeous palace, you have beautiful women throwing themselves at your feet. Is there something I am not getting? I have no life of my own! Everything is decided for me! Where I go, what I do and who I see. I m going (exits) (Calling after him) But your highness I cannot keep lying to your mother they have laws against that! (pauses) If he wants to kill me why not trample me with his carriage and get it over with! 15
