2 Director s Notes Our production of The Wizard of Oz is a BIG show that includes 41 cast members, 7 technical students, 146 costumes, 135 light cues, 54 sound cues, 25 animated projections, 16 body microphones, and a broom that shoots fire - a lot for a summer camp to take on! We are so proud of the work the students have done over the past few weeks to grow as actors, singers, dancers, and all-around better musical theatre performers and theatre community members. Because our camp accepts students at all levels of experience, you ll notice that some cast members are working toward finessing their acting transitions and improving the intent of their line delivery, while others are simply working on being in the right place at the right time. This varied group of performers makes for a vibrant retelling of the classic story we all know and love. This summer we added technical theatre students into our camp family. The following are production projects you can spot on stage that the technical students had their hand in: painting the farm house, painting/decorating the Wizard face pieces, building/painting/decorating the Ozian gates, crafting corn stalks, modge-podging Winkie helmets, cutting out Winkie vests, crafting Crow headbands, base painting and layering fabric for Munchkinland and Dark Forest bushes, finding and downloading online sound effects, pulling costume pieces from stock for lead characters, pulling props from stock, drawing and animating projections, servicing lighting instruments, running sound and lighting cables, and many other activities. This production is a direct representation of the hard work our young cast and crew have done to prepare over the past few weeks. I m so grateful to have such an amazing staff working with the students this summer. They are each knowledgeable, approachable, and supportive mentors to the students. It has been a heartwarming and fulfilling experience. Thanks to all for a lovely journey to Oz! Best, Heather Reba (Director)
