CARIBBEAN STREET PARADE AND OPENING CEREMONIES The parade, featuring students from many Charleston County Schools, African drummers and dancers, boy scouts, girl scouts and members of civic organizations winds through the streets of Charleston and culminates behind the Custom House, the sight of the Opening Ceremonies and Reggae Block Dance. 5:30pm. Opening Ceremonies, 6:30pm. REGGAE BLOCK DANCE Live music featuring reggae bands, African drummers and dancers, ethnic foods and international crafts. Approximately 18,000 residents and tourists take part in the festivities. Behind the U.S Custom House, Concord and S. Market Streets. 6:30pm-11:00pm. Saturday, September 25 HERITAGE DAY Day-long activities featuring live entertainment showcasing local and regional talent, African, African-American and Caribbean vendors marketplace with ethnic foods, international crafts; storytelling and Swahili workshops; a major Health & Wellness Fair that includes panel discussions, on-sight screenings and information and Youth On View featuring Praise Dance groups and mimes and The Center for Heirs' Property Preservation s The Heritage of Home Cookin'. Wednesday, September 29 HISTORIC SITE DESIGNATION St. Mark's Episcopal Church, 16 Thomas Street, an African American Landmark, is recognized for its historical significance. 10:00am. Friday, October 1 4TH GRADERS READ OUT 4th Graders from Charleston County Schools in District 20 and District 10 participate in a special reading program. 9:00am. DANCE MASTER CLASSES Cleo Parker Robinson Dance Ensemble conducts master classes for elementary, middle and high school students. Porter-Gaud Academy and Burke High School. 9:30am and 11:30am.
