2 Page 2 To order: Welcome to the new Rondo Publishing Catalogue for 2013 Rondo Publishing is a specialist music publishing company run by string teachers and early music performers with over 60 years teaching experience on violin, cello and viol. It is hardly surprising therefore that many of our publications have a firm educational bias! Most of the material written by Jacqui Robertson-Wade has been published to encourage new viol players in particular, providing them with resources that form both a good foundation for developing technique and interesting music to play. These publications include both tutor and consort books that provide players with a much needed progressive approach to viol playing. Other publications include Consort books by Andrew Fowler, with Consorts for Five Book 4, edited by Alison Crum, due out in Tina Chancey (USA) also has a new folk book out for viols, Celtic Gold Book 2 and Bass Delights Book 2 (Baroque music for 4 bass viols or 4 cellos) by Patsy Gritton is also a new publication for Alison Kinder s Divisions for the Practice of Learners by Christopher Simpson is now also available which is a must for all serious viol players. While there is a lot of free music available online these days, we value the support you are giving to publishers who still provide music which is essential in educational terms. For larger orders please get in contact with us about special postage rates. The Rondo Viol Academy has now been running courses for three years and those new to viol playing might like to have a look at our web site Jacqui Robertson-Wade Michael Williamson Director Sales & Marketing General Editor

5 Page 5 Educational Viol Music... Viol Player Viol Tutor Series Review: I wish I had had a book like Viol Player Book 2 when I started to play the viol. It is intended for children, but would not be at all unsuitable for adults; in fact, given a knowledge of how to read music, it would be ideal for an adult beginner. I thoroughly enjoyed playing along with the two CDs that accompany the book. Most of the pieces are written as duets, providing plenty of material all carefully graded, with each new note being systematically introduced. All in all, I though this book was a delight. It is intelligently planned and shows thorough road testing. Many tutor books for other instruments could be improved by imitating this approach. Mary Pells. The Consort, The Journal of the Dolmetsch Foundation, Summer 2010, Vol 66. Page from Viol Player Book 2

10 Page 10 To order: J.S. Bach: Sonata in D minor Arranged by Jan Goorissen and edited by Ibi Aziz, after BWV 526 for Viola da Gamba and Harpsichord. Review by Mary Pells: The Consort, The Journal of the Dolmetsch Foundation, Summer 2010, Vol 66.: The whole sonata works well and fits the instrument better than many other transcribed pieces I have performed. The second movement, Largo, is particularly successful. The viol part often lies high in its range, but the editor s suggestions are helpful. Price: 8.50 Order: RP037 Bach: Solo Suite for Viola da Gamba in A minor Arranged by Jan Goorissen from BWV1011and edited by Ibi Aziz. 14 Page 14 To order: Celtic Gold Book 1 Jacqui Robertson-Wade Review: The score and parts are admirably clear, with part 4 given in alternative clefs for tenor or bass viol. Slurs marked in the melody (wherever it lies) are in keeping with the folk music tradition, as are the occasional use of pizzicato, chords and crushed note type ornaments. This collection is particularly welcome because it is interestingly different music, but with straightforward diatonic harmony in friendly keys and it is rare to find consort music for 6 viols of such moderate difficulty. Wendy Hancock. The Consort, The Journal of the Dolmetsch Foundation, Summer 2010, Vol 66.
