1 Part I Semester I Paper I Theoretical Survey: Critical Study of the Talas Time: 3 Hours Maximum Marks: 75 Internal Assessment: 25 Marks INSTRUCTIONS FOR PAPER SETTER The paper shall set four questions from each section A & B of 15 marks each. Section will consist of 5 short answer type questions of 3 marks each, covering whole the syllabus. INSTRUSTIONS FOR THE EXAMINEE Attempt 2 questions each from section A & B. Section C is compulsory. Section A 1. Technical Terminology : Peshkar, Quida, Palta (Baant), Rela, Tehhai, Tuikrha, Chakardar Tukrha, Bedam Tukrha, Mukhrha, Mohra, Kinaar-Ki-Gat, Gat (Khulle Bol), Chakardar Gat, Mohra, Ladant, Chaanti, Daab, Laag-Daab. 2. Comparative Study of Uttary & Dakhni Tala System. 3. Origin, modification & development of Tala-Vadayas of Northern and Sothern Music system. Section B 1. Aesthetic of Indian music with special reference to Tabla. 2. Importance of Tala and Laya in Hindustani Music. 3. Gayan, Vadan Aur Nritya Mein Tabla Ka Mahatava.

Critical and Comparative study of prescribed talas : Teentaal, Tilwarha, Juhmrha, Arha- Chartaal, Dhamaar, Ektaal, Chaartaal, Jhaptaal, Sooltaal, Roopak, Tivra.

Solo performance in any five talas prescribed in the course: (Peshkaar, Quida, Palta, Rela, Tihaai, Tukrhaa, Chakardaar, Tukrhaa, Mukhrhaa, Mohra, Gat and Paran.) Prescribed Talas: Teentaal, Tilwarha, Juhmrha, Arha-Chartaal, Ektaal, Jhaptaal, Roopak, 2. Ability to play thhekaas of prescribed talas in different layakaris. 3. Ability to elaborate the given Chhand, in a tala of your syllabus. 4. Ability to create Tihaai with given bols. 5. Ability to accompany Tabla with slow & fast Khyal and Gat.
