2 About kids is the only orchestra for children aged from the age of 5 in Singapore since it made its inaugural debut at the Singapore Conference Hall on September 9, Consisting of 3 orchestras that cater to children of different skill levels and ages - the Seed Orchestra, Junior Orchestra and Senior Orchestra - kids philharmonic@sg strongly believes in the educational benefits of playing in an orchestra. All musicians learn to play in tandem with the others, hitting the same notes at the same time, while observing standardised tempo, dynamics, and bowing - instilling a high level of discipline in them. A not-for-profit organisation, kids philharmonic@sg is a recipient of the National Arts Council s Seed Grant for the period of 1 April 2015 to 31 March Foreword kids philharmonic@sg strives to provide a platform for our talents, leading to the introduction of the multi-segmented programme in Luminous Night 2 performed by the Seed Orchestra, Junior Orchestra, as well as a few selected musicians who will be performing Solos and Duets. The Seed Orchestra and Junior Orchestra of kids philharmonic@sg comprises students from the age of 5 and 10 respectively. Both orchestras act as a starting ground and stepping stone for aspiring musicians, nurturing them and encouraging them to pursue their interest in music. Being able to support these musicians in their musical endeavours is truly our honour. The orchestra could not have done it without the support of the parents of our members, who truly believe in the benefits of playing in an orchestra, as well as our many supporters over the past years. We look forward to continuously expanding the orchestra to include a permanent wind section, and to perform more challenging repertoire. Luo Wei Music Director kids philharmonic@sg

5 Junior Orchestra Conductors Zhang Tong is a cellist, instructor, and conductor of the Junior Orchestra at kids philharmonic@sg. He began his cello studies when he was 7. In 2006, Zhang Tong studied at the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music with a full scholarship and studied with Qin Li Wei, the Head of Cello Studies, graduating in 2010 with a Bachelor of Music (Honours) Degree. Zhang Tong is also a guest Principal Cellist of the Singapore National Youth Orchestra and a freelance musician of the Singapore Symphony Orchestra. He also posesses experience in teaching and has instructed in many schools since the age of 16. Seed Orchestra Keita Suyama is a Japanese violist who studied with Bruno Pasquier at Haute Ecole de Musique de Lausanne in Switzerland and graduated with a Master of Music Degree in concert performance. After graduation, he worked as an intern in Philharmonisches Orchester Kiel, Südwestdeutsche Philharmonie Konstanz in Germany for 2 years while he was studying with Tasso Adamopoulos at HEMU Lausanne, site de Sion. During his studies in Switzerland, he had worked as a trainer in the kids orchestra. He is currently a full-time instructor of kids philharmonic@sg.

6 Biographies Alicia Ho Alicia has started learning violin since the age of 6. The Kids philharmonic s founder, Mr Lee, was in charge of the string ensemble when Alicia was 9 and that was how she knew Kids philharmonic. From joining Kids philharmonic, she has gained a lot of experience by performing in many concerts with the senior orchestra. Her most memorable performance was in Penang when she had played with students from POWIIS and learnt more about their curriculum there. Being able to perform with them in front of so many people was such an honour and she hopes to have more opportunities like this. Since 2014, she has been helping the junior orchestra members by leading them throughout their rehearsals and have helped them improve their skills. She has entered SOTA in 2016 and her ultimate dream is to be in YST after graduating from SOTA and perform all over the world. Ashley Foong Ashley began learning violin at the age three and is currently under the tutelage of Mr. Luo Wei. Driven by her passion for the instrument and music, she participated in a number of international music festivals, including the Singapore Violin Festival in 2016 and She attended master classes with Mr. Alexandra Trotiansky, Prof. Takashi Shimizu, Prof. Hyo Kang and Mr. Aleksey Semenenko, Prof Qian Zhou, and other notable musicians and professors. Ashley was awarded 1st prize in the 11th Zhongsin International Music Competition in In 2017, she was also awarded 1st prize in the American Portégé International Piano and Strings Competition and 1st prize in the American Portégé International Concerto Competition.

7 Gracia Hoon Gracia is a Primary 4 student and has started playing the violin since the age of 6. Despite starting her music journey at a relatively late age, she was part of the orchestra which participated in the One World Orchestra Festival in 2015 and won the prestigious Gold award. She has also been performing at various platforms, including community and school events. The most recent being the Arts Festival at her school, representing the Primary 4 cohort. Tan Xin Jie Marcus Cua Marcus, aged 10, started Suzuki Violin at the age of 4. He developed the passion to pursue violin seriously with the aspiration to play pieces from his favourite composer, Nicolo Paganini. A gifted violinist from young, Marcus won 2nd prize at the Malaysian Youth Orchestra Foundation open category when he was 4. He joined kids philharmonic@sg in 2013 and enjoys both solo and orchestral performances. Marcus was awarded the Gold Prize in the 2017 Zhongsin Violin Competition. He is under the tutelage of Mr Luo Wei and also plays in the Soka New Century Orchestra. Xinjie started playing the violin at the age of 8 and has joined kids philharmonic@sg orchestra since then. She discovered her love for violin when her primary school informed the students about the CCA string ensemble. The founder of kids philharmonic@sg was in charge of the string ensemble then, and that was how she knew about the orchestra and subsequently studied under its conductor, Mr Luo Wei for about 2 years and changed teacher, still continuing taking lessons. She is one of the senior members in the orchestra, and is currently a student at the School of the Arts. Tan Yu Tang Yu Tang was first introduced to cello when he was living in Shanghai. He started learning cello at the age of eight under the tutorage of Teacher Zhang Tong when he returned to Singapore. He is currently a member of the Senior orchestra of Kids Philharmonic.
