2 Whiser Solos by Pamela Marshall For flute, clarinet or saxohone or any agile treble-clef instrument Dedicated to three erformers and concert roducers Matt Samolis, flute Producer of the Advent Library concert series and many other events that nurture the comoser and erformer community in Boston Todd Brunel, clarinet Artistic director of the Vortex Series for New and Exerimental Music and an insiration to me as a gifted imroviser Rebecca Wellons, saxohone Adventurous erformer of the most difficult saxohone music Comoser s Note Whiser I was originally written for a contest that requested a 30 solo It would be layed in a glass-enclosed elevator overlooking a beautiful sace somewhere in Sweden e music would be layed for the duration of the elevator ride It also had to be soft -- no harm should come to anyone s ears in such a small sace -- hence, music that is a whiser, gentle as a breeze I liked my material, even though it didn t win, so I made additional versions of the solo Whiser II eliminates a lot of the filigree to find the core itches of the line Whiser III starts with that simlified hrase, ivots in the middle and does the hrase backward Whiser IV also simlifies the melodic line in different ways Whiser V strays the furthest from the original material, but the contours of some gestures can be traced back to Whiser I Play the music as written in the transosition of the instrument you are laying Aril 202
