He specialises in education and family concerts and has also conducted the Adelaide, Canberra, Queensland and Tasmanian Symphony Orchestras in these fields. As a player, he has played Guest Principal for WASO and Queensland Symphony Orchestra as well as touring nationally with Australian Chamber Orchestra on multiple occasions. His future engagements include conducting Canberra Symphony Orchestra at the prestigious Mittagong International Piano Concerto Competition in 2013 as well as return engagements with WASO and Canberra Symphony Orchestra. 6
7 Phil Doncon Artist Phil Doncon co-founded and performed in Artworks Visual Arts Theatre from When the group wound up in 2004, he thought he was hanging up his performance painting brushes permanently. In 2006, the West Australian Symphony Orchestra invited Phil out of retirement to perform the first of the Play Me a Picture series, but it wasn t until 2008, while painting a striking desert scene as part of the Play Me a Picture series with the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra, that he had an epiphany. He realised at that moment, he was totally in his element, and that this is exactly what his life should be about. From that point on, Phil launched into a solo performance painting career, putting together an array of performances for orchestras, schools and festivals. Since then, Phil has performed to rave reviews, in schools in Perth, Melbourne and regional WA. His performances emphasise pursuing your passions, being proactive and taking calculated risks in both art and life. Phil has also performed the Play Me a Picture series with the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra. Rhoda Lopez Presenter Rhoda has been nominated for the WA Equity Benevolent Guild Awards for Best Supporting Actress 2011 for her work in Scent Tales (Little y Theatre, Blue Room), and Titus Andronicus (Class Act Theatre), and Tough Girls a new Australian Musical (VitalStatistix Theatre Adelaide & Deckchair Theatre Perth). Her training includes studying at the WA Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA), completing a Certificate II and Bachelor of Arts in Music Theatre. Rhoda has also MC-ed various events, from many of the Philippine Independence Day Balls to live children s shows. She has experience as a tutor for voice, singing, movement and leadership, mainly through Barking Gecko Theatre Co, and Rotary International. Rhoda has just finished a show called Kitchmas in July, for the Downstairs at The Maj Cabaret season. Rhoda s love of the arts stems from her Filipino background and her upbringing in Zambia

11 How your donation supports the Orchestra Donations made to WASO s Private Giving program ensure that the Orchestra can continue to present Family Series concerts such as Play Me a Picture and a wide variety of other special community activities. WASO s community of Patrons individually make financial contributions that have a genuine impact on the scope and quality of performances and activities that the Orchestra are able to provide to the Western Australian community. As music lovers, they contribute to sharing the joy of music with current and future generations and help ensure Western Australians continue to have a world class symphony orchestra based in their state. Contributions made through WASO s Philanthropy programs support all aspects of the Orchestra s activities including community and education programs and special events. Donations in 2012 help support: Free public performances by the Orchestra, including the Symphony in the City concert in December, which attracts 20,000 people every year. Three wonderful family concerts each year enjoyed by hundreds of children. Many more children delight in our EChO cushion concerts across the Perth metropolitan area, from Joondalup to Fremantle. The touring of different sized WASO ensembles into schools and communities all over Western Australia touching the lives of thousands of young Western Australians in all corners of the state. A WASO Chamber Orchestra performing in the Starlight Theatre at Princess Margaret Children s Hospital six times a year bringing moments of joy to the lives of very ill children, their parents and the staff. Please help us share the joy of music and become more deeply involved in the life of WASO. To learn more or to become a patron, please call Alecia Benzie, WASO s Executive Manager, Private Giving, on or benziea@waso.com.au. Donations are fully tax deductible. Every gift makes a difference. 11
