Thuringian Opera Studio The Thuringian Opera Studio is a postgraduate programme offered by the University of Music Franz Liszt Weimar in cooperation with the Deutsches Nationaltheater Weimar (DNT), the Theater Erfurt, the Theater Nordhausen, and the Theater&Philharmonie Thüringen. The programme gives young, gifted singers the opportunity to enlarge their professional experience on the operatic stage. The students work on adequate roles in new as well as in repertory productions, and regularly perform on stage. They receive further tuition and coaching at the University of Music Franz Liszt Weimar. The scholarship associated with the programme allows the students to be financially independent and to concentrate on expanding their artistic qualifications; this head start and professional experience boosts their chance to find permanent engagements. Studying at the Opera Studio Duration: two terms/ one season; this period can be extended by a further two terms on consultation of all involved partners on a case-to-case basis. The course normally begins with the winter term. Please note that the theatre seasons do not overlap exactly with the teaching terms. Work at the theatres: professional experience gained by regular rehearsals and performances, in both new productions and repertoire productions. The casts are assembled on the basis of the students' abilities and potential. Please consider that tuition and rehearsals are in German, therefore a sufficient level of German language skills is required.

3 Work at the University of Music Franz Liszt Weimar: individual and group tuition in voice with teachers at the school, drama training/ audition training, repertoire and song studies, locution training (German). Degree: on completion of a successful course of studies, the student is awarded a certificate which includes a written evaluation of their achievements at the cooperating theatres. 6 Thuringian Opera Studio is organised like an audition for an engagement at German theatres and opera houses. It will be held in February The audition is assessed by a joint panel, formed equally of members of the University of Music Franz Liszt Weimar, the Deutsches Nationaltheater Weimar, the Theater Erfurt, the Theater Nordhausen, and the Theater Altenburg-Gera. The details for the audition (date, place) will be announced after the pre-selection. The audition consists of two parts as well as a rehearsal 1. Four arias from three different stylistic periods, in at least two languages, approx. 20 minutes (international applicants must perform at least one aria in German) 2. Additionally, a scenic improvisation / performance will be demanded, approx. 10 minutes The Scholars 2017/18 Sujin Bae, soprano (Korea) Voice Studio of Prof. Dr. Michail Lanskoi The Korean soprano SuJin Bae studied at the Kyungpook National University and at the Universität der Künste Berlin with Prof. Elisabeth Werres. In 2015 she completed her

7 vocal studies with a master's dergree. Her experiences on stage include productions in Korea as well as in Europe such as "La Traviata" (Annina) and "Aida" (Sacerdotessa) in Daegu, Mascagni's "Iris" (title role) and "Fledermaus" (Adele) in Berlin as well as "Land des Lächelns" (Mi) in Erfurt. Her concert repertory includes works like Haydn's "Schöpfung" and Pergolesi's "Stabat mater". Sujin Bae won several prizes in renowned vocal competitions, among others the Grand Prix and the audience prize at the International Giulio Perotti Competition Ueckermünde in Here she also obtained the special prize of the festival OPERNALE e.v. including an engagement as Queen of the Night in "Die Zauberflöte". In 2016 she won the Soroptimist-prize at the 67th Gian Battista Viotti International Music Competition in Vercelli, Italy. This season her roles include Papagena and Queen of the Night in "Die Zauberflöte" and the First Witch in "Dido and Aeneas". Andrii Chakov, baritone (Ukraine) Voice studio of Prof. Hans-Joachim Beyer The Ukrainien baritone started his musical education as a student for choral conducting at the National Music Academy of the Ukraine in Kiev. In 2008 he began his vocal studies with Prof. W. Buimyster and A. Stuik. In 2010 he won the 2nd prize at the International Singing Competition

Between 2013 and 2015 Andrii Chakov was soloist at the Opera of Dnipropetrowsk where among others he sang the Mandarin in "Turandot", the title role in "Eugen Onegin", Silvio in "I Pagliacci" and Escamillo in "Carmen". Since 2016/2017 Andrii Chakov has been a member of the Thuringian Opera Studio. His parts this season include Marullo in "Rigoletto" and Orlik in "Masepa". Emma Moore, soprano (Australia) Voice studio of Prof. Michael Gehrke The Australian Soprano Emma Moore studied at the Sydney Conservatory of Music and the Universität Photo: David Starr der Künste in Berlin with Julie Kaufmann. She achieved her master?s degree with honors. Emma Moore won several prizes at international competitions, among others the 1st prize at the Autralian Singing Competition, a 2nd prize at the International Competition for Lied in Stuttgart, a 2nd prize at the international competition "Das Lied" in Berlin as well as the 1st prize at the Richard Strauss Vocal Competition in Munich. In 2015 Emma Moore made her debut as Countess Almaviva in "Le nozze di Figaro" at the Weikersheimer Schlossfestspiele. She also appeared as Susanna in the same opera, as Konstanze in "Die Entführung aus dem Serail" and as Miss Jessel in "The Turn of the Screw". She joined the Thuringian Opera Studio in 2016/17, where

9 her roles in the coming season include Marzelline in "Fidelio", First Lady in "Die Zauberflöte" and Sophie Scholl in Zimmermann's "Die Weiße Rose". Henry Neill, baritone (United Kingdom) Voice studio of Prof. Siegfried Gohritz The English baritone Henry Neill achieved his Bachelor degree at Cambridge University and finished his Photo: Justin Kim studies with a master at the Royal Academy of Music in London. He took part in several university productions, among others as Sprecher in "Die Zauberflöte", as Marco in "Gianni Schicchi" and as Conte in "Le nozze di Figaro". Furthermore he appeared in the title role of Bizet's "Don Procopio" at the Opera South, as Noah in "Silver Electra" (R. Hepplewhite) at the English Touring Opera and as Edmund Bertram in "Mansfield Park" (J. Dove) at the Grange Festival Opera. He won the Royal Overseas League Singing Prize as well as the Audience prize at the International Vocal Competition 's-hertogenbosch in 2016 and the Sybil Tutton Award in His roles for this season include Papageno in "Die Zauberflöte". Florian Neubauer, tenor (Germany) Voice studio of Prof.

10 Siegfried Gohritz Florian Neubauer received his fundamental musical education at the boys' choir Regensburger Photo: Michael Vogl Domspatzen. After obtaining his Bachelor degree at the Musikhochschule Hannover he continued his vocal studies at the Hochschule für Musik Franz Liszt in Weimar. In addition he participated at several prominent master classes such as the King?s Singers, Juliane Banse, Helen Donath and Bach expert John Butt. Florian Neubauer was able to gain experience on stage in several university productions, for example as Arnalta in "L'incoronazione di Poppea", as Roger Fleuriot in "Meine Schwester und ich" an as Quint in "The Turn of the screw". Furthermore he participated at several productions of the Pocket Opera Nuremberg and was a guest at the Musiktheater im Revier Gelsenkirchen between 2015 and 2017 singing Dr. Blind in "Die Fledermaus" as well as taking part in "The little match girl passion" by David Lang. In 2016/17 he was part of the world premiere of "Bonnie and Clyde" at the Theater Nordhausen. Florian Neubauer worked together with renowned conductors and orchestras like Pierre Cao, Rolf Beck, John Butt and Sebastian Weigle, the Bamberg Symphony and the Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin.
