2 ASTA Appreciates Pirastro GmbH for Its Generosity in Sponsoring the 2012 National Orchestra Festival Who will be named Grand Champion for the 2012 National Orchestra Festival? Come and listen as these fantastic groups compete for the title. The selected Grand Champion orchestra performs a winner s concert on Saturday, March 24 at 11:15 a.m. 2
3 Welcome! Dear Festival Enthusiasts, It is with great pleasure that we welcome you to the ninth annual National Orchestra Festival (NOF) sponsored by Pirastro GmbH. The 2012 NOF brings together 14 spectacular ensembles representing 14 schools from across the United States. Congratulations on your hard work and accomplishment for being accepted into ASTA s premier festival. The NOF is proud to present some of the nation s finest music educators as our adjudicators and clinicians. Each group will receive taped and written comments, as well as a rating by each of the three concert adjudicators. Following the concert, our highly qualified clinicians will provide each group with a clinic designed to enhance their music-making abilities. In addition, each orchestra will have the opportunity during the conference to work with master class clinicians. These clinicians have national and international reputations as musicians and teachers. ASTA is committed to delivering the highest artistic and educational experience to its members and their students. We are certain that the 2012 NOF will meet that goal. Harry Allen Overtstreet wrote, I have my own particular sorrows, loves, delights; and you have yours. But sorrow, gladness, yearning, hope, love, belong to all of us, in all times and in all places. Music is the only means whereby we feel these emotions in their universality. The students and teachers involved in performing at the NOF are blessed to have such an opportunity to discover and present the beauty and excitement of music. Thank you for your devotion to your preparation and for your performance here today. Sincerely, David Littrell Organizing Chair 1
