1 g{x V{tÜÄÉààx XÇV{tÅtwx V{tÜÄÉààx V{tÑàxÜ AMERICAN GUILD OF ORGANISTS YÜÉÅ à{x Wxá~ Éy à{x WxtÇAAA \ am writing this article on the Tuesday of Holy Week. It strikes me that the most meaningful moments in the religious cycle are the ones that tax church and temple musicians the most. I had never considered the temple musicians busy time of the year until last evening as I attended my first Seder for Passover. It was an incredible time of friendship and meaningful remembrance of the deep Jewish roots that uphold my own Christian faith. As we sat Adam Ward, dean around the table and exchanged battle stories about our work in our religious institutions, it was increasingly apparent to me that we are truly all in this together. No matter how we approach our higher power or how we choose to worship our higher power, we are in this together, and we need to be good to one another. Speaking of being in this together, I hope that you will all join together as we continue to approach our 2015 Regional Convention here in Charlotte. Our logistics and program committees are zeroing in on some final plans, and what I have seen thus far is exciting beyond belief. Have I piqued your interest? The mission of the American Guild of Organists is to enrich lives through organ and choral music. To achieve this, we: Encourage excellence in the performance of organ and choral music; Inspire, educate, and offer certification for organists and choral conductors; Provide networking, fellowship, and mutual support; Nurture future generations of organists; Promote the organ in its historic and evolving roles; and Engage wider audiences with organ and choral music. APRIL 2013 If so, the best way to find out more is to get involved on a Regional Convention Committee! There are many ways to serve from helping with Registration, to volunteering to host at a venue to finance to transportation. We need all hands on deck to make this a memorable event in the history of our organization at local, regional and national levels. And on a final note, please don t forget our two special April Events. On April 6 at 7:00 in the evening we are collaborating with the One Voice Chorus, under the direction of Gerald Gurss, in a concert of music for choir, organ and other instruments. This will feature Don Kaufhold, organist at First United Methodist Church, Patrick Scott, Associate Director of Music at Myers Park United Methodist Church and yours truly playing organ solos. The anchor piece for the evening is the Joseph Martin Songs of Wisdom from Old Turtle. You won t want to miss this concert! It will take place at First United Methodist Church in uptown Charlotte. More information about the concert and ticketing can be found at The other special event is our Dueling Duets Concert at Myers Park United Methodist Church. Come out and hear your colleagues as they delight the aural (and visual) senses playing with hands and feet flying at the organ. This concert will take place at 7:00 in the evening on April 23. Continued on next page... In This Issue Chapter Programs Stigall Scholarship Application Employment Opportunities Concert calendar Newsletter deadline 10th of each month.
