Soundcheck: MONTAGE Soundlibrary Legacy Series The MONTAGE with the Firmware Version 2.0 is particularly attractive for current or former MOTIF/MOXF users who use or have used their own or optional Soundsets. Beforehand you could only import Voices from MOTIF XS and XF, but now with Version 2.0 Voices and Performances of MOTIF XS/XF and MOXF can be imported. The Voice and Performance Banks are loaded from "All" Files of the respective devices. Voices and Performances are imported separately into different Libraries, because a MOTIF/MOXF "All" File contains more Banks than are available in a MONTAGE Library. Easy Sounds has been offering optimised Soundsets in the new category "MONTAGE Legacy Series" for some time now. I have tested the available Libraries for you. In addition to the description in this article I have recorded acoustic impressions in a YouTube video (see below). YAMAHA.COM 3

Owners of MOTIF Soundsets may ask themselves about the purpose of an optimised MONTAGE version. Actually, the existing sound data can be imported in the MONTAGE. This is correct, but the revision by Easy Sounds offers more convenience. The optimised MONTAGE versions contain standard programmings that are not available after the import but make the use of the Performances much more convenient: The Performances contain Super Knob assignments Category settings are available for all Parts, which is important for the CATEGORY SEARCH function Foot Control 2 is set to "Super Knob" so that the Super Knob can be controlled immediately with a connected Foot Controller However, special MONTAGE features such as FM-X or Each Set costs 32 EUR and is therefore cheaper than the Premium Series Soundsets, which make more intensive use of the new features of MONTAGE and often greatly expand the Libraries. Tour de sone Let's start our tour. The Performances mentioned by name are included in the demo video on my YouTube channel "APP SOUND": It's certainly no coincidence that these examples mostly come from Performances that are on the very first storage locations. MONTAGE Chill Xperience Motion Sequence are not included. These features are extensively used in the Premium Series. In comparison to the direct import of MOTIF Soundsets, the new Sets of the Legacy Series score with one major advantage: The Voices and Performances are combined in a single (!) Library, while the user has to use separate Libraries for Voices and Performances when he imports the sounds himself. And the duplicates of MOTIF Preset Voices or Performances that initially occur after an import process are already removed. These are superfluous, as they are already available as Single Part Performances in MONTAGE. This cleanup makes the Library much more manageable, because only the content that actually belongs to the Library is available. Finally, you will also find revised documentation for the individual Sets, which refers to MONTAGE. Five Sets are currently available at Easy Sounds: Stage&Studio Dance Xpanded Magical Pads Mystic Spheres Chill Xperience I was especially excited about this Set from the Legacy Series: "Chill Xperiences" is filled with different player sounds for the spherical downbeat tracks. At that time I was involved in the creation of the Set. So now, after many years I play "Chill Xperience" again, which triggers nice memories. My spontaneous impression: These Performances are absolutely timeless and therefore still find their deserved place in Chill Out and Lounge. The popular compilations of "Cafe del Mar" are the model. With the first three Multi Part Performances alone I could jam for hours. They are called "Citrus and Cinnamon", "Angels in the Sun", and "Chillanimateur". Like almost all of the 24 Multi Part Performances they are recommended for relaxed grooves at tempos between 60 and 80 bpm. A drum loop is used for the first Performances. The synthpad has a dark, calm character, YAMAHA.COM 4

elements like an acoustic guitar - triggered by an arpeggiator - are added to the rhythmic-harmonic picture. The result is really tasteful. "Angels in the Sun" is a little more lively. Here some elements like Sawtooth Oscillator and D50-like sounds arpeggiate to a nice overall picture. A beautiful contrast between digital and analog Arpeggiator sounds is offered by the Performance "Chillanimateur". With such Performances you can create your Chill Out track very in a minute. In the majority of cases, the sounds in "Chill Xperience" are Single Part Performances. Stylistically, they go beyond the end of their nose and also contain ethnic elements. Among these 128 Single Part Performances are acoustic pianos and guitars, simpler synths and effect sounds that work well in the arrangement and can be played freely without an Arpeggiator. Drum loops (format: WAV, MONTAGE) are supplied for production. Chill Xperience is also an enrichment for live keyboardists in the bar/dinner area. MONTAGE Stage&Studio The Layer sounds are especially impressive. The Multi Part Performance "Chart Compin'" can be used in every kind of rock/pop hit songs. It is suitable for rhythmic chord accompaniments, melodic phrases, and also simple chord progressions. Use the Super Knob to vary the Filter Frequency, which results in further expression possibilities. For synthbrass sounds you can create beautiful vibratos with the Modulation Wheel. The video outlines how all this can be done. There is hardly a pop number for which you cannot use this grateful Performance. The second Performance called "DelMar Layer" is also a lot of fun. Here you will find a combination of nylon guitar, synth pad, and acoustic piano. The guitar reacts expressively to different dynamic strengths, the Filter of the analog pad sound can be specifically changed by the Mod Wheel and Super Knob. This standard sound is not missing either: A layer of softer synth brass, DX rhodes, and acoustic grand piano. Right, it is the Performance "Toto's Stack", named after the very successful group Toto. The Split Performances of "Stage&Studio" are also great. If you prefer straightforward, musically useful sounds instead of complex layered sounds and above all make live music, this Set is a good choice. MONTAGE Dance Xpanded This Set concentrates on the essentials for the pop musician and especially for the keyboardist of Top 40 / coverbands. It includes 40 Multi Part Performances and 128 Single Part Performances, all based on the internal Waveforms. Except for the back half a dozen Arpeggiator sounds, your own dexterity is desirable here. Which is a good thing, all Performances can be played very well and have been deliberately programmed free of unnecessary technical gimmicks. The sounds come from the most important instrument groups such as piano, organ, guitar, brass, synth. The "Dance Xpanded" Set serves electronic dance music in the broadest sense. The Performances for Dance, Trance, and Pop were produced by Peter Krischker together with Jahnspierre Leyton. Users can expect 128 Single Part Performances and 20 Multi Part Performances, some of which are based on additional synthesizer Waveforms (64 MB). The content also includes 100 MIDI files (loops / arpeggios) and 65 Audio Drum Loops to help in you YAMAHA.COM 5

work with your DAW. Musically striking are the "Trance Gate Pads", which are created with the User LFO. The Multimode Filter is used fairly good and fat stacks are given their best. Already at the first audition you can feel a special energy of "Dance Xpanded". I couldn't decide which Performances to choose for the video demo. Because of my preference for more relaxed beats, I got stuck to "Yellow Groove". A crushy Drum Loop at a tempo of 112 bpm and a multi-layered Arpeggiator line-up are ideal for any chord accompaniment and melodic lines. Turning the Modulation Wheel and Super Knob makes the Filter shine beautifully. Rhythmic and tonal variations can be easily achieved by changing the Scene. The Performance "Heaven to Earth" seems magical. This is an effect-loaded, bombastic sound, which is especially effective with an impressive intro. Keep an ear on the glissando of this radiant, spherical sound. The Split Performance "Soft Game Split" features a special retro feeling. For the left hand, a layer of pad and arpeggio is provided, while a classic sawtooth lead synth is available for melodies. The whole thing is underlaid with a TR kit at a speed of 74 bpm. You don't necessarily expect such a creation from a dance set, but it rounds off the content of this collection positively. This sound production is also aimed at creative live keyboarders who play in cover bands. MONTAGE Magical Pads speak for themselves, as well as simple structured pads that can be easily integrated into the mix and provide a fundament for the song. The beginning of this collection, a pad with a Vocoder Sample, is not exactly representative for "Magical Pads". However, you will immediately notice that this set contains additional User Waveforms (130 MB of Samples). In the further course there are numerous pad sounds, which sound very wide, generate a lot of warmth, and can be used flexibly. I liked the Performance "PopStack AF1&2" right away. This octavated pad has a short Attack and therefore allows fast chord changes that do not sound washed out. Variations can be called up via the AF buttons: AF1 delivers a very transparent and crisp pad sound with little bass, which is very useful in a live band arrangement. Using AF2, the straight pad sound can be played in the lower octave range only. It is not a sound with a high wow factor, but in practice you will like to use such sounds frequently. Remarkable is the Performance "Rezzophone", which also offers short Attack and Decay Times. Here the Super Knob is a great means of expression. Use it to create drastic Filter sounds, as briefly indicated in the video. Rhythmically charming pads are also present, such as the "Stutterer" Performance. All in all, you will find a superior range of 160 Single Part Performances that can meet high expectations in terms of both quality and variety. Here you get the popular sweeps-, athmo-, or brass pads and also some vintage pads without exaggerated effect animation. MONTAGE Mystic Spheres The pad creator for MONTAGE is called "Magical Pads". Pad sounds are a supreme discipline for many synthesizer lovers. Here you can expect breathtaking sounds that The palette for experimental sounds is available in the "Mystic Spheres" Set. YAMAHA.COM 6

Here you enter an Eldorado of mysterious sound collages, which appeals to me personally even more than "Magical Pads". For film music and spherical electronic music, you get an inspiring source of inspiration that can be used dynamically in music or multimedia productions. For further information please visit the Easy Sounds website: Select the category "Yamaha MONTAGE Legacy Series". The facts: You get 16 Multi Part Performances, 128 Single Part Performances, and 74 User Waveforms. Some Performances have Control Arpeggios assigned, which create tonal and rhythmic changes. The Arpeggiator works pleasantly inconspicuously. You will not hear melodic phrases, rhythmic accompaniment chords, or other typical Arpeggiator figures. An Ambient Piano Stack, the Performance "SleepnKeys", tempts me to play. It is a rather dark piano, which can be played very expressively via velocity and is accompanied by beautiful spherical sounds. Most of the collage sounds are surreal and dreamy. You can hear some examples in the YouTube video. The bottom line All presented products of the Legacy Series are no warmed up food, but sound at the pulse of time and offer useful sounds for the practitioner. Enjoy your own discovery tour! 9 Dtronics DT-RDX Controller for Yamaha reface DX For several years now Dtronics from the Netherlands has specialised in the construction of dedicated controller units. The manufacturer is now announcing a controller for the popular Yamaha reface DX. It will be available from August 2018, but we were already allowed to take a closer look. FM synthesis, even in a 4-Operator system like the reface DX, has numerous parameters - eight alone for the Envelope of each Operator. Typical user interfaces familiar from subtractive synthesizers are correspondingly rare. Understandably, such controls take up additional space and increase the design effort of the instrument and thus also the costs. Conversely, there are good reasons for the desire for direct parameter access for these instruments, as FM synthesis is less straightforward and less predictable in its results than said subtractive synthesis. If you want to move away from Presets in a sound researching way, you will certainly appreciate the corresponding haptic possibilities of access. And this is exactly where Dtronics comes in with the DT-RDX. YAMAHA.COM 9

The DT7 is already causing a sensation among FM enthusiasts, making all the parameters of the legendary Yamaha DX7 accessible (see box). However, such a rich and large user interface would hardly be appropriate for a synthesizer designed explicitly as a compact device like the reface DX, let alone in terms of price. The extended user interface for the reface DX, DT-RDX, follows a somewhat different concept. Structure The DT-RDX consists of a clever, black anodized, angled metal construction. The reface DX is placed on the lower plate. Metal posts that fit into existing synthesizer body openings ensure secure placement. In addition, the DT- RDX can be connected to the keyboard by screws without damaging the keyboard - which does not only make sense for live operation. The actual control panel is automatically located above and behind the reface - in a suitable position for quick access and across the full width of the keyboard. Since the rear of the controller now covers the connectors of the reface DX, corresponding cut-outs are provided, for example for the audio outputs. The power supply of the reface is distributed to the controller via supplied adapter cables. The MIDI Interface is first forwarded to the DT- RDX via a special cable. There the MIDI adapter, which is part of the reface delivery, is used again. The result is a functional overall system consisting of reface DX and DT-RDX - a meaningfully connected unit that transforms the original into a tangible FM synthesizer. Finally, on the back of the panel there is the decoratively illuminated manufacturer's logo. Control concept As mentioned above, a complete user interface was out of the question for the reface DX for the reasons mentioned. Instead, the DT-RDX features 41 trim potentiometers with considerably less space requirement. The Global parameters (Common) such as the selection of the Algorithm, the LFO, or the Pitch Envelope are permanently accessible on the left half. This also includes an illuminated Init button, with which the synthesizer is set to a basic state in order to be able to start "from the scratch". On the right side of the panel are the Operator-specific parameters, such as the Coarse and Fine Pitch, the Output Level of the Operator, its dependence on the Velocity, the individual Feedback and the corresponding Envelope, as well as the Scaling via the keyboard (Keyboard Level Scaling). Switching functions such as the dependency of the Operators on the Pitch are also done via potentiometers. The Operator is selected via four green illuminated buttons, which can also be combined for joint processing. In addition, there are four additional buttons with which the Operators can be toggled on and off at any time. This is especially useful to check their effects during sound generation. In fact, the DT-RDX maps almost all parameters of the reface DX in this way. Only the Effects (which are already quickly accessible on the device) and the memory and naming functions are omitted. The display and buttons on the reface DX can still be used additionally and also react to changes on the controller, for example when changing the Algorithm. However, the display won't switch automatically to the corresponding page when selecting a parameter. YAMAHA.COM 10

The DT-RDX uses System Exclusive MIDI commands to control the synthesizer. This makes it possible to record sound changes in the DAW, even if they cannot be changed subsequently. With the DT7, Dtronics offers a controller for the first and second DX series models. Unlike the DT-RDX, this generously dimensioned controller offers a complete user interface for all(!) parameters. With the exception of the additional functional range of some instruments such as the TX-816 and TX-802, the tone generation of these synthesizers with six Operators is completely accessible via conventional controls. The unbelievable luxury of 30 buttons and 147 controllers not only takes up more space, but is also reflected in the sales price. The recommended retail price for the limited-edition DT7 is EUR 1,249. As nice as the new access to the parameters of the reface DX is, the DT-RDX has two conceptual disadvantages. Each time you switch to another sound, the knobs of the DT-RDX are in the wrong position. Of course, the device shares this fate with all storable instruments and controllers that have conventional controls. With DT-RDX, however, this restriction also applies to the Operatorspecific parameters. With each change in this range, the corresponding parameters are also in the wrong position. Each value change leads to an immediate jump in value to the new position of the potentiometer. The alternative in the form of endless controllers with LED rings is unfortunately not an option in this price range. The second disadvantage are the small trim potentiometers, which are certainly not everyone's cup of tea. They are more fiddly and more difficult to read than large controllers, but they are simply more space-saving and less expensive. Practical experience In fact, the DT-RDX shortens the way to your own sounds and makes the interaction of the various parameters of FM synthesis directly tangible. Bravo! The sound researcher gets a haptic user interface, which is missing in almost every FM synthesizer. With this, FM synthesis can suddenly be controlled in real time and immediately directed in the desired direction. This is simply remarkable and puts the reface DX into a series with other haptic instruments that can be experienced today in greater numbers than ever, but which generally refer to subtractive synthesis. Conclusion Dtronics introduces the DT-RDX, a custom-made controller for the reface DX, that transforms the instrument into an FM synthesizer with comprehensive real-time access - a real specialty. In this combination the reface DX deserves more than ever the attention of musicians and sound designers. The price of 299 EUR for this "upgrade" is absolutely reasonable. Ulf Kaiser It is not the availability of controllers in the combination of reface DX and DT-RDX, but the controllability of FM synthesis that is the real special feature. Nevertheless, FM sounds often have a high individuality. And it is precisely this that can be highlighted by the parameters that can now be directly controlled, with results that are often not known from other devices. Even if the results are not always clearly predictable, the parameters gain additional familiarity. For example, each change in the Frequency Ratio of Carrier and Modulator generates new overtone spectra depending on the modulation intensity. This can be explored here playfully or used for drastic sound changes. YAMAHA.COM 11

Soundmondo News 2018 The extended version of the social sound sharing platform Soundmondo will be available practically synchronously with the launch of the Superbooth 2018 in Berlin at the beginning of May. In addition to the previously supported mini keyboards of the reface series, compatibility has been extended to MONTAGE. The slogan "Create your sound, inspire and be inspired!" now also applies to the circle of MONTAGE users worldwide. Previously on the internet... Soundmondo was first announced with the release of the Yamaha reface series. Initially, the service was available as "working beta". In the issue of the Music Production Guide I wrote a comprehensive article about it. In the event that you would like to go into detail again, you can download this issue again: In April this year, the company moved to a new server, which involved extensive maintenance work. The necessary adjustments to the GDPR were also made with the update. The Terms of Use and the acknowledgement of the Privacy Policy must be confirmed before using Soundmondo. As a result of these measures, existing Soundmondo users had to update personal information for their account, such as links to social networks and also their profile picture. As some kind of "starter's set" for example, the sounds of the original DX7 cartridges "VRC-101/102" are to be found on Soundmondo. Under the motto "Rebirth of DX's Voice ROM for MONTAGE", all DX7 Voices from these cartridges YAMAHA.COM 13

benefit from MONTAGE features such as Motion Control Synthesis Engine, Pure Analog Circuit, and HQ Effects. To find these Performances, you can simply work with the filter "vrc-" in the search field. If you are visiting Soundmondo for the first time with an MONTAGE, you will find information on registering, searching for Performances, and uploading in the abovementioned issue of our Music Production Guide - all based on reface, of course. To exchange data between your MONTAGE and Soundmondo, first establish a USB connection between the instrument and your computer. If not already done, install the free browser Google Chrome. Other browsers are not supported. The first time you start Chrome after reinstalling and connecting MONTAGE, you must allow access to MIDI devices once. The connection is then functional, which is indicated by the "Connected" display. All Performances from the "MONTAGE Expanded" Promotion Library that were programmed without User Waveforms can also be found on Soundmondo. These are listed with the search term "HaPe". Of course, numerous other User Performances have been added in the meantime. Among others from our campaign "Program an FM Sound to get a free exclusive Yamaha Synths Superbooth 2018 t-shirt", which took place at the Superbooth With the search term "superbooth" these Performances can be found. The search and loading of Performances is possible immediately after successful login and establishment of the USB connection by clicking on "Browse" (1). Soundmondo Google Chrome Many innovations require a simultaneous changeover to new processes, technology, and more. This is actually not the case with Soundmondo. If you have already used the soundsharing platform with a reface, you will immediately feel at home. The Yamaha MONTAGE has been integrated virtually seamlessly into the existing system. As with reface, synchronisation is done via USB using Web- MIDI in Google Chrome. If one or more tags are activated (2) - as shown in the screenshot - the selection is limited accordingly. A search term (3) entered at the top right of the "Sign In" button is also added to filters already set. A click on the Performance name opens it, displays further information and simultaneously activates the "SYNC" button. A click on it starts the data transfer via bulk dump. YAMAHA.COM 14

To access the Soundmondo library, click on the small cloud icon at the bottom right of the main screen. You could use the synchronised Performance as a template for your own variants. In the new view after synchronisation, name, description, and at least one tag can be assigned immediately. This activates the "SAVE" button, which triggers the bulk dump from MONTAGE to Chrome and saves the Performance. Soundmondo App (ios) It is also possible there to set corresponding filters with your own search terms (1) and/or tags (2). The search can also be limited to the Performances of certain Soundmondo users (3). The Soundmondo App has been updated regularly in the past. After the integration of MONTAGE into the soundsharing platform Soundmondo there is - as for the reface models - also a small Performance collection for MONTAGE available in the start screen of the App. If you tap on one of the search results, the Performance is immediately sent to the connected instrument. Use the small blue cloud icon (4) below each Performance to add it to your library on your ipad/iphone. Bluetooth? The short answer is yes, it is possible to use Bluetooth for data exchange. The settings allow you to define the MD- BT01 or UD-BT01 as the connection type, for example. However, depending on the Performance, the transmission speed leaves a lot to be desired. Here it has to be considered that the MONTAGE Performances consist of a very extensive parameter set. This is made After starting, the App immediately switches to the instrument type when a MONTAGE is connected. The LogIn in the ios App can be accessed via the small menu at the top right, which also contains all settings and additional information. up of the Common and Part parameters. Due to the variable number of Parts and dynamic use of the Motion Control Synthesis Engine, the size of the data package of a Performance can vary considerably. YAMAHA.COM 15

Happy sound sharing As when working with MONTAGE Connect, it is also to consider for Soundmondo that no User Waveforms can be transferred. You can download several free Promotion Libraries from which are based entirely or partially on optional User Waveforms. If Soundmondo adds a User Performance based on a User Waveform from one of these Soundsets, the corresponding Library File must be loaded in the receiving MONTAGE. Since the names of the Library Files are used for identification, the order in which the Files are loaded is irrelevant. Hans-Peter Henkel To upload a corresponding Performance, I would recommend that you note a reference to the basic Library File used in the "Voice Description" field. Possibly right at the beginning, as a small preview is available in the Soundmondo App. As described above, it would be possible to immediately upload a Performance that has just been downloaded. This only makes sense if the Performance has changed noticeably. Otherwise there would only be duplicates, which could make working with Soundmondo more difficult and also reduce the fun of sound sharing at some point. I would therefore like to make a recommendation on this too: If you adjust a Performance to use it more or less for yourself, you can save it in the instrument or App. In addition, Soundmondo offers a private area where you can save your own variants exclusively for yourself. If you really want to make essential changes to an existing Performance and upload it again as your new variant, you should either change the name of the Performance completely or add your initials to the existing name. Furthermore, I personally think it would also be helpful to mention the original source of the new creation. This could also be done in the "Voice Description". Additional little hints are also very welcome. For example: What inspired you to choose this variant? Or: What did you change/add and why? This is of course optional and not obligatory. In my opinion, however, it would positively support the idea of sound sharing. YAMAHA.COM 16

Yamaha EAD10 meets a Cajon "This wasn't the plan... Revolution for the Cajon" Since it covers a special topic, this story differs somewhat from the upcoming topics around the EAD10. After we have tested the EAD10 in all areas, whether in live use, in the studio, or even just for practicing, we have found that the system is ideally suited to mic a Cajon. We were thrilled at how well it works and - above all - how great it sounds. So this is my report on the deployment with a Cajon. Where to put the Sensor Unit? The Sensor Unit must of course be inserted with the microphone into the hole of the Cajon, which is located on the back of the Cajon. With most Cajons the hole is about 12cm in size, so it should be no problem to attach the Sensor Unit. But the EAD10 was designed for a hoop of a bass drum YAMAHA.COM 18

Just get started! Now you can use all possibilities of the EAD10 Module. The great effects, the recording functions, internally, on USB stick or directly into a DAW (Cubase, etc...). At my last workshop I played a ballad with a nice reverb. It gives you goose bumps. At first I couldn't believe how good it sounded! and many Cajons have a very thin back wall. So it is advisable to put something between the back and the Sensor Unit and fix it with double-sided adhesive tape if necessary. I even designed a special holder, I will write more about it later in the text. Trigger in the Sensor Unit This is another goodie in the application with a Cajon. Depending on the Trigger settings, you can also trigger e-drum sounds with the Cajon. With normal setting, the Cajon only needs to be struck a little harder and the currently selected e-drum sound is triggered. This is simply ingenious! No matter whether a fat bass drum or a percussion sound is to be integrated, with this system it is done quickly. Since the Module has a Sample Memory for 100 Samples, you can also include your own sounds. Sensor Unit Settings If the microphones of the Sensor Unit are in the Cajon, it is necessary to reduce the sensitivity of the microphones. Which is very simple: Press the Sensor button and adjust Professional mounting Since the EAD10 system wasn't actually developed for a Cajon, I thought about a professional mount. This bracket makes it easy to install the system. If you are interested the Gain of the microphones until it sounds great on the headphones and no clipping or bass distortion can be heard. With Cajons that have much bass in the low end, it also makes sense for the live application to activate the low cut in the channel of the mixing console. This is usually a small button in the channel that reduces the volume of frequencies below 80 or 100 Hz. YAMAHA.COM 19

in such a mounting, you can contact me at any time. In this case it is made of stainless steel and can be easily attached to any Cajon with Velcro. The holder is practical and indestructible. You can simply screw the Sensor Unit onto the holder and attach the holder to the Cajon with Velcro. The Sensor Unit is then immediately in the correct position. There is a manual and of course the necessary accessories. Further information as well as my current workshop dates can be found at - I would be pleased to welcome you! Conclusion If you want to mic up down your drums, but also play Cajon or even just play Cajon, I can only recommend the EAD10 system. The Yamaha EAD10 sounds so good that you don't need expensive microphones to mic up your drum kit or Cajon. Not just for practice! Live, in the studio, or simply to have fun. I'll show some videos about the application soon, so stay tuned! Ralf Mersch YAMAHA.COM 20

Assembly Overview of technical specs Each Kit comes in a single box. The parts are easy to unpack and assemble. Of course, a detailed Operation Manual is included, which explains the assembly in an easily understandable way. The cable loom that connects the Sound Module to the Pads is beautifully labeled so that everything is easy to install. The new features at a glance The DTX402 Sound module The design has been completely revised. The panel is clearly labelled. As with the 400 series, there are 10 different Drum Kits for different musical styles. The new sounds really convinced me, the drum sounds are convincingly real and offer a completely new dynamic range. This will certainly be due to the stronger processor, which works at higher speed. There are 10 Training Functions and 10 Songs. The DTX402 features an Aux input and a Headphone output, which can also be used to connect the Sound Module to a PA or active speakers. The USB TO HOST port can be used for various applications. When connected to a computer, the Module works like an audio interface and can be used in music software such as Cubase. Or you can connect the module with different Apps. Overview of the Songs The Cymbal Pads You can immediately recognise the new design of the Pads. Also new is the Crash Cymbal Pad with an additional sensor, which allows you to choke the Cymbal (stop/muffle the sound). The Rack The new Rack is very stable. Two additional legs with cross-connections make the Rack safer and more stable. The Snare Pad also has a new Holder and can no longer twist so easily. The Module can be placed in different positions. The Drum Kit can be set up for left-handers. Due to its new stability, this series is also very well suited for taller adults. YAMAHA.COM 26

Two free Apps DTX402 Touch (ios Version) With this App you can operate and make all settings of your DTX402 Module with just one finger. All important settings for the Pads and Pedals can be changed very easily. You can use an Apple Camera Connection Kit and a standard USB cable to connect. Rec'n'Share (ios Version) This App is ideal for practicing or recording videos of your drumming. You can choose Songs from your library and the App will automatically generate a click track. Tempo, volume ratios, and other settings can be adjusted. Recorded videos can be easily uploaded or sent to various social media platforms. You can also use an Apple Camera Connection Kit and a standard USB cable with this App. YAMAHA.COM 27

Conclusion Yamaha has improved the 400 series enormously. New sounds, great features, and improved hardware. Whether beginner, for "silent practice", or for home recording, the new series can be recommended to everyone. Thanks to the improved Rack, tall adults now also have a very stable Drum Kit. The orchestra library produced by Prof. Dr. Peter Jung (Duisburg-Essen, Germany) is based on recordings that were created over the past five years with the participation of two well-known Central European symphony orchestras. The recorded sounds are very lively and authentic. Some feature delicate impressions of disturbances that are typical for strings, such as the sound of slightly hitting the instrument body with the bow. All recordings were digitally processed on PCs, collaborating with well-known sound designers. In addition to the orchestra sounds the Voice bank also contains sounds of categories like Electric Organ, Pipe Organ, Acoustic Piano, and Electric Piano. To be able to load the complete All-file a Flash Expansion Memory Module (512 MB or 1 GB) is required. Single Voices can also be loaded into the SDRAM memory of the MOTIF XF (volatile sample memory). 34 Soundset for MOTIF XF und MOXF VP1 Physical Modeling Yamaha offers another free soundset for the MOTIF / MOXF that is dealing with a truly legendary Yamaha synthesizer: the Virtual Acoustic Synthesizers VP1. The VP1 sounds brutal. The sound impresses by an amazing vitality, coupled with amazing stereo renderings. There is no doubt that even after almost twenty years the VP1 can sonically compete with current workstations. It was and is a truly remarkable result of exquisite engineering. sound, by varying the parameter values, can be dynamically changed using the numerous performance functions of VP1. The author Prof. Dr. Peter Juung has carefully recorded sounds of the VP1 and created a sound set. The VP1 soundset includes 565MB of sample data. Everything was recorded in stereo and organised in 19 Waveforms, which rely on 536 Keybanks. From these Waveforms 48 Voices whose character was previously only found in the original were programmed exclusively for the MOTIF and MOXF. Der VP1 from the inside The VP1 uses "Physical Modeling". With the help of a physical model, e.g. of a stringed instrument, you can get an actual sound by setting the parameter values. The excitement, e.g. a pick or a bow brings virtual kinetic energy into the model, which is made to audible sound by the model. A sound generated with the "Physical Modeling" synthesis is not a simple snapshot that does not change like with pure sampling. Rather than that, the "physical modeling" The soundset takes us into the magical world of "Physical Modeling" synthesis of the VP1. The soundset "VP1 MOTIF" can be requested by writing an with the subject "VP1" to: vp1@easysounds.de After successful registration you will get an from EASY SOUNDS containing the download link for the activation of the content. 36 MOTIF XF / MOXF Performance Soundset Hybrid Performer The recent Goodies contained almost exclusively User Voices and Samples. For some time now many users, however, expressed to get new content in the field of Performances and Live Mixings. Yamaha Europe now corresponds to this wish and provides new sound sets: Hybrid Live Performances for MOTIF XF and MOXF. The following Performance Sets are included in the downlad: Hybrid Performer - Set 1 32 Performances Performance mode Programmed by HaPe Henkel and Peter Krischker Hybrid Performer - Set 2 16 Hybrid Live Performances Song Mixing mode Programmed by HaPe Henkel Hybrid Performer - Set 3 32 Hybrid Live Performances Song Mixing mode These Performances are based on chart titles using the User Sound Library that has been launched some years ago Programmed by Jean Moric Behrends The sets 2 and 3 on the other hand contain "Hybrid Live Performances", which are very popular among live keyboardists. Hybrid Live Performances are Mixings at the highest level and with the broadest capabilities. They contain not only complex layer or split programmings, but even allow to switch between sounds without interruption. A Hybrid Live Performance is created in the Song or Pattern Mixing mode. In contrast to the Performance mode, up to 16 Parts are available here. In a Hybrid Live Performance groups can be formed with different MIDI Receive Channels (Receive Ch.). Thus, within a single Mixing even more than one Performance can be realised. They can be selected by using the TRACK SELECT buttons without having the previous sound cut off. A common download folder is set up for the three sets of the Hybrid Performer series. The sets are available for MOTIF XF and MOXF and can be requested by writing an with the subject "Hybrid" to: hybridperformer@easysounds.de After registration you will receive an containing a download link from EASY SOUNDS with a clearance for the content.
