MONTAGE/MODX USER AUDITIONS Already since the MONTAGE Firmware update 2.00 it is possible to create User Audition Phrases. Like Preset Audition Phrases, these can be assigned to Performances and saved as part of a User or Library File. A User or Library File can contain a maximum of 128 User Audition Phrases. The original purpose of the Audition Phrases is to present Performances in the form of short demo sequences. Each Preset Performance is assigned to one of more than 1,000 Preset Audition Phrases. From this, one could conclude that the Audition Phrases are rather a matter of the manufacturer or sound providers, but not of the "normal" user. But this is not the case, because Audition Phrases can be used effectively for different purposes, as this article will show. BASICS After all, an Audition Phrase is nothing more than a Song recording. With Firmware Version 2.50 introduced in the last issue by Hans-Peter Henkel, the Songs created in MONTAGE/MODX are fully compatible with the Audition Phrases. The Songs recorded with the MONTAGE/MODX Sequencer (Play/Rec) can be completely converted into User Auditions. The playback result is the same for Songs and Audition Phrases. For Arpeggio Parts, you can specify before recording whether only the trigger notes or the events generated by the Arpeggiator should be recorded and played back. More about this later. A big advantage of User Auditions over Songs is the direct connection to a User or Library File. The maximum 128 Songs possible from Firmware Version 2.0 onwards can only be saved together with all other User Data in a Backup File. YAMAHA.COM 3

The 128 User Auditions, on the other hand, are managed independently of the 128 Song storage locations in the User File. And if the User Content is saved as a Library File, the new Library also contains the User Auditions, which strictly speaking should be called Library Auditions, although this term does not exist in the instrument. Theoretically, a total of 9 x 128, i.e. 1,152 User Audition Phrases, are possible for eight Libraries and one User File! Another advantage of using User Auditions is their lightning-fast accessibility with the AUDITION button, without having to leave the Home display or the Live Set display. PERFORMANCE RECORDING The Songs created with MONTAGE/MODX can - as already mentioned - also be used as Audition Phrases. The actual production of the Audition Phrases is done with the Performance Recording, which is accessible directly from the Home display via the "Play/Rec" function. I already described the basic functions of the MONTAGE Sequencer in detail in the articles "MONTAGE Performance Recording - Part 1 and 2" in the issues and If necessary, please take another look at these two articles, which can basically also be applied to the MODX. With regard to the use of Arpeggio Parts, however, the functionality described in the two articles has changed with the Firmware Update In the section "MONTAGE Sequencer and Arpeggiator" I had described that the connection between Sequencer and Arpeggiator was one-sided. It only exists from the Arpeggiator to the Sequencer and not vice versa. During playback, there is no connection to the Arpeggiator. In principle, this is still correct, as long as the parameter "Arp Rec", newly added with Firmware 2.50, is left in its default setting "ON". In this case, for Arpeggio Parts, not the recorded notes or chords are recorded, but the Events (Note and Controller Data) generated by the Arpeggiator. During playback, there is no connection between the Sequencer and the Arpeggiator, so that there is no doubling of notes even if the Arpeggiator of the Performance is still switched on. However, if "Arp Rec" is set to "OFF", the notes and chords played will be recorded, not the Arpeggio Data. These then control the Arpeggiator during playback. This has the advantage that with the same recording and the selection of different Arpeggio Types, fundamentally different musical sequences can be realised. The sequences recorded with the setting "Arp Rec = ON" are marked in the name of the Song with the yellow marked entry "ARP". Sequences recorded with the setting "Arp Rec = OFF" are identified by the fact that they are not marked. Do not be confused by the names "ArpRec ON/OFF", but take them literally. The names refer to the behaviour of the Sequencer during song recording. With "ArpRec ON" the Arpeggio Events of Parts are recorded with the Arpeggiator switched on, therefore "ON". During playback, on the other hand, the Arpeggiator is bypassed. With "ArpRec OFF" the Arpeggio Events of Parts with the Arpeggiator switched on are audible but are not recorded, therefore "OFF". As already mentioned, only the played notes and chords are recorded, which control the Arpeggiator both during recording and later during playback. YAMAHA.COM 4

Further information on the "Arp Rec" function can be found in the "Play/Rec" section of Hans-Peter Henkel's article "MONTAGE - Operating System Update OS v2.5" in issue RECORDING USER AUDITIONS WITH A DAW As an alternative to Performance Recording on the instrument with "Play/Rec", User Auditions can also be created on the basis of imported MIDI Files that have been recorded in external DAWs (e.g. Cubase, Logic) with the option of extensive processing. However, the MIDI Files are not loaded directly into the User Audition memory locations but are first loaded into Song memory locations and only then converted into User Auditions. If you integrate this Meta Event into your DAW Project, you can do without the above-mentioned recording of Arpeggio notes with the setting "Arp MIDI Out" and instead only record notes or chords for the triggering of the Arpeggiators for Arpeggio Parts. So for the external creation of Songs and User Auditions, you can also choose between "ArpRec ON" and "ArpRec OFF". The special Meta Event may not be loaded with every DAW, especially not with older program versions such as Logic Pro 9. It is recommended to use Cubase Pro 8.5 or higher or Logic Pro X. In these two DAWs, the Meta Event appears in a separate Track in this form: Important to know: Starting with the current MONTAGE Firmware Version 2.50 or MODX Firmware Version 1.10, the setting "ARP Rec = ON" is automatically used when MIDI Files are loaded into MONTAGE or MODX. This setting corresponds to the default setting of the Play/Rec function. It is expected that the Arpeggio notes are already included in the Sequence. Therefore, the Arpeggio Events must be recorded in the DAW - not the trigger notes and chords. To do this, select the following setting in MONTAGE/ MODX: [UTILITY] > [Settings] > [MIDI I/O] - Set "Arp MIDI Out" parameter to "ON". This UTILITY setting is also mandatory in MONTAGE/ MODX for later use as Songs or Audition Phrases: [UTILITY] > [Settings] > [MIDI I/O] = "Multi". The alternatively selectable setting "Single" is not suitable because the MONTAGE Sequencer uses the MIDI I/O mode "Multi". The Standard MIDI File created with the DAW is loaded into the MONTAGE or MODX using the Content Type ".mid File" and then appears as a Song. By the way, using a trick it is possible to make the MONTAGE or MODX load MIDI Files with the alternative setting "ARP Rec = OFF". All you need to do is place a specific Meta Event at the start position of the MIDI File. This Meta Event can be found in the Tutorial Files for this article (see note at the end of this article). You can also create the Meta Event that is required for "ArpRec OFF" by saving a Song you have recorded on the instrument with the setting "ArpRec OFF" as a MIDI File using "Save As.mid File" and importing the resulting MIDI File into your DAW. There the Meta Event appears in a separate Track as shown above. In order to make it easier for you to start creating MIDI Files for MONTAGE/MODX Songs and User Auditions, I have prepared a few exemplary Files that you can use as samples and orientation for your own creations. You can download the MIDI Files together with the already mentioned Meta Event (see link at the end of the article). Here are an overview and a short description of the example Files. After loading one of the MIDI Files, you should make these settings in Play/Rec for a playback in loop: Loop to ON, Loop Start to 001 and Loop End to 009. Try different Scenes for the Multi Part Performances! ARPREC_OFF.MID This File only contains the Meta Event described above, with which the setting "ArpRec = OFF" is made in MONTAGE or MODX. YAMAHA.COM 5

CHORDSEQ_OFF.MID This File contains the Meta Event for "ArpRec = OFF" and a chord sequence, with which complex Multi Part Performances with many Arpeggio Parts and Scenes can best be controlled. MIDI Channels 1-8 contain the same Events, so this file can be used for both Single Part Performances and Multi Part Performances with up to eight Parts. If the Performance being controlled contains Arpeggio Parts, these are controlled by the chord sequence. Due to the use of the Meta Event, the Arpeggiators are activated and not bypassed. The musical sequences created by the chord sequence are variable because they depend on the Arpeggio Types set in the Arpeggio Parts. Here are some Performances suitable for this chord sequence: Yo Luv (Category Strings, Scene 3 and higher), Filter & Funky (Category Pad/Choir), DJ Montage (Category Synth Comp), Kreuzberg Funk (Category Musical Effect). SYNTHARP_ON.MID This MIDI File already contains an Arpeggio. To control the Arpeggiator would make no sense. Therefore the Meta Event is not built in. In MONTAGE or MODX the default setting "ArpRec = ON" is called, which bypasses the Arpeggiators. The File contains only one Track (MIDI Channel 1) and can therefore only be used for Single Part Performances. The Performances of the Category Synth Comp listed here are, for example, well suited to be controlled with SynthArp: Fat Saw Arpeggio, Trancious Line, PercussiveSequence, and Bright Dance. Since the Arpeggiator is bypassed, it is irrelevant whether the Arpeggiator is switched on or not in the controlled Performance. SCHLAGERHERZ_ON.MID This File is also intended for controlling the "Schlagerherz" Performance. The same chord sequence is used as for Schlagerherz_OFF.mid. Here, however, the Arpeggio notes are already recorded with "Arp MIDI Out" in the Arpeggio Parts. Therefore, the File does not contain the Meta Event. In MONTAGE or MODX, the default setting "ArpRec = ON" is called, which bypasses the Arpeggiators. This File leads to the same result as the File Schlagerherz_ OFF.mid in sound as well as in musical sequence. The latter can be used more flexibly, however, since other Arpeggio Types can be set in the Performance, while with Schlagerherz_ON.mid the Arpeggio notes are already recorded and the Arpeggiator is therefore bypassed. CONVERTING SONGS INTO USER AUDITIONS After Songs have been recorded or loaded as MIDI Files, they can be converted into User Auditions. However, this is only possible completely. This means: All existing Songs are converted into User Auditions and overwrite already existing User Auditions. Therefore, it is strongly recommended to keep Songs already used for User Auditions in memory and to save them as a Backup File. The conversion of the Songs into User Auditions is done with the function "Update User Auditions", which you can find here: [PERFORMANCE] > [EDIT] > PART [COMMON] > [General] SCHLAGERHERZ_OFF.MID This File contains the Meta Event and a chord sequence with which the MONTAGE/MODX Performance "Schlagerherz" (Category Main = Pad/Choir, Category Sub = Analog) can be controlled. MIDI Channels 1-8 contain the same Events. Due to the use of the Meta Event, the Arpeggiators are activated and not bypassed. The Arpeggio Parts 2, 3, 4, and 5 are controlled by the chord sequence as well as the play Parts 1, 6, and 7. YAMAHA.COM 6

You can then select the User Bank and its Phrases instead of the Preset Bank. The assignment of a User Audition Phrase is stored in the respective Performance. With regard to the Arpeggio Parts, the User Auditions work in exactly the same way as the Songs. The settings of "ArpRec" (ON/OFF) are applied during the conversion. SONGS AND USER AUDITIONS AS A SOURCE OF INSPIRATION The following three Performances from the "Pad/Choir - Analog" Category are ideally suited for recording generic sequences due to their large number of Parts: Power of Emotion (7 Parts) Schlagerherz (7 Parts) UnderWater Worlds (8 Parts) The following example describes the steps to first record several chord sequences with PLAY/SEQ (Arp Rec = Off) and then convert them into User Phrases. EXAMPLE POWER OF EMOTION Select the Performance "Power of Emotion" from the Category "Pad/Choir" Songs or User Audition Phrases created with the setting "Arp Rec = OFF" can be used to control the Arpeggiator Parts of various Performances. As described above, recordings with this setting only record the played notes or chords and not the Arpeggio Events. These sequences, for example interesting chord sequences, create not only their own sound when played back with a Performance, but also completely different musical sequences. For example, if you have composed a chord sequence for a new musical project, you can try it out with any Performance. This works with both Play/Rec and Leave Category Search with EXIT. The Home display appears, where you can find the seven Parts of the Performance "Power of Emotion" in the Mixer Overview AUDITION. You will be amazed at the interesting results that can be achieved in terms of sound and music. Conversely, after executing Update User Auditions, you can also start from an inspiring Performance and try out different User Auditions with it. To record such generic sequences that can be used for different Performances, you should select a Performance that uses a large number of Parts. The number of Parts determines the number of recorded Tracks. If you use a Single Part Performance for a recording, only one Track is created. It makes little sense to control a Multi Part Performance with that, since only the first Part would then be addressed. Press the RECORD button. The "Play/Rec" display appears Set "Arp Rec" to "OFF" Set "Rec Quantize" to a value that corresponds to your playing abilities, for example 1/16 (120) YAMAHA.COM 7

and then use the PLAY button to switch back to the Sequencer. Set those Performances as Favorites that appear suitable for your chord sequences and inspire you. This is done from Category Search by clicking on "Set" in the "Favorite" field at the bottom of the display.. Press the PLAY button and play the chord sequence at the end of the count-in Stop the recording shortly before the end of the last bar of the chord sequence Set "Loop" to "ON" and set "Loop Start" and "Loop End" to the length of the chord sequence. For a four bar chord sequence, the correct setting is 001:01 to 005:01 After you have recorded a series of chord sequences as Songs, you can convert them into User Audition Phrases using the "Update User Auditions" function described above. In the next step, in Category Search, select the Performances previously marked as Favorites one after the other from the "Favorites" bank. In each of these Performances, select the Audition Bank "User" in the "Edit - Common - General" display and scroll through the Phrase Numbers. A successful selection can be the basis for your next music productions! Press PLAY to listen to the recording. If the recording does not meet your expectations or is faulty, you can delete it with Undo and repeat it. The default settings are retained After a successful recording, click on the Song name and enter an individual name, for example the name of the Performance Click on "Store Song & Performance Settings" You have now recorded a Song that contains exactly the same chord sequence in Parts 1-7. This Song can be used to control most Preset Performances because only a few Performances use all eight Parts. To try out the recorded chord sequence with other Performances. First, select a Performance in CATEGORY USER AUDITIONS OF THE SOUNDLIBRARY EVOLVING SOUNDSCAPES The Soundlibrary "Evolving Soundscapes" published by EASY SOUNDS shortly after the release of the MONTAGE Firmware 2.0 already uses the feature of User Auditions. A total of 64 User Audition Phrases are included in the User File. The Phrases 1 to 25 contain demo sequences related to the Multi Part Performances including the control events for Scenes, Super Knob, and Modulation Wheel. The Phrases 26 to 64 contain generic chord sequences that can be used for any Performance. The chord sequences do not contain Control Events. So you can control the Scenes, the Super Knob, and the Modulation Wheel yourself during playback. YAMAHA.COM 8

The Audition Phrase demos of the Soundlibrary "Evolving Soundscapes" that I specially produced for this article, are intended to give you an idea of how different the same Audition Phrases sound with different Arpeggio Performances. You can find these demos at in the shop category MONTAGE or MODX. Select the product "Evolving Soundscapes" (Audition Phrase Demos). In each demo, one of the Audition Phrases is played with some Performances of the Soundlibrary. TUTORIAL MIDI FILES The MIDI Files mentioned in the section "Recording User Auditions with the DAW" can be ordered by writing an with the keyword "MONTAGE Free" montage@easysounds.de Immediately after registration, you will receive an from EASY SOUNDS with the download link for activating the content. In the download folder, you will find further MONTAGE Files for previous articles in the Music Production Guide. USER AUDITIONS LIVE Peter Krischker The use of User Auditions can also be interesting for live keyboarders. If you already use Songs with the Performance Recorder (Play/Rec), you should consider converting the Songs with "Update User Auditions". The advantages of this solution have already been mentioned above: Direct access from the selected Performance with the AUDITION button Backup as part of a User or Library File Increases the maximum number of possible sequences from 128 Songs (User and Library) to 1,152 User Audition Phrases If required, you could assign a User Audio Phrase to each of your Live Performances. This can be started either from the Home display or also from the Live Set display with AUDITION at lightning speed for short recordings. Of course, it is also possible to record User Auditions for Split Performances, where the left keyboard area is used for a recording or even for a complete backing track and the right keyboard area for parts to be played. For this purpose, existing Performances can be modified by changing the Note Limits of the Parts (Part Settings - General) and adding Parts if necessary. I hope that I was able to give you the necessary know-how for the creation of User Auditions and give you suggestions for their creative use. YAMAHA.COM 9

SKYLIFE SAMPLEROBOT 6 MONTAGE EDITION The Berlin-based manufacturer Skylife has been offering SampleRobot since 2005, a software that actively supports users in sampling. Until the end of March 2019, you can get this practical software for free in a customised license for your MONTAGE. After entering the necessary data, you will receive the free version of the SampleRobot MONTAGE edition in the form of two codes: a six-digit Yamaha code and a twelvedigit serial number, which you can also view later in your Yamaha user account at any time. Fully or semi-automatically SampleRobot takes sound generators, real or virtual, into its sights and creates Samples (more precisely: Multisamples) according to a user-definable scheme, prepares them afterwards and makes them available in the desired export format. As a real robot, you can entrust the software with a series of tasks that are processed one after the other. For example, SampleRobot can record Samples of every third note in three dynamic gradations, each five seconds in length, and automatically process them to fit. The version presented here is limited to the MONTAGE formats.x7u and.x7l. INSTALLATION If you are not already registered with Yamaha Musicsoft, create a new user account: YAMAHA.COM 11

With a mouse click, you will receive a download containing both the Windows and macos versions. Unzip the downloaded file and then start the installation. You will then find the software under SKYLIFE/ SampleRobot 6 FIRST PASS After the first start, SampleRobot will ask you for your serial number, the Yamaha code and some personal data. Fill in the appropriate fields until the "Activate" field is blue. SampleRobot is then ready for use and opens the so-called "Project Wizard", which is dedicated to the creation of new sample projects. But for now, close this window. Instead, open the "Extras/Open Preferences" dialogue in the main menu of the software. Here you can make selections for the MIDI Interface, the recording format, and the Audio Interface. The latter is especially useful because SampleRobot offers you a level meter during recording. Select your Audio Interface in the popup "Audio In Device" on the right side of the program window. Do the same on the left side for the Audio Output. For the first attempt, select a MIDI sound generator and connect its Audio Outputs to your Audio Interface. Of course, also connect the MIDI Output of your computer to the MIDI Input of the sound generator. It is not necessary (but useful) to connect the MONTAGE to your computer so that you have a keyboard to play the sounds before recording. The next step is to select the desired sound on your sound generator. For the beginning, it should be a sound that does not have a Sustain phase, such as a bass. If necessary, make some taste adjustments and save the sound just to be on the safe side. Now restart the Project Wizard from the File menu of SampleRobot. This will guide you step by step through the necessary preparations for your first sampling. First, name YAMAHA.COM 12

the Project and select a useful storage location for the Samples. Then select the Audio Interface and the correct Audio Inputs. This is followed by the Audio Resolution setting, for instance, 16 bit/44.1 khz/stereo. Check the sound of your sound generator in different pitches and decide for a reasonable time with some safety reserve. But also keep in mind: Too long recording times cost storage space. You can ignore the second parameter "Release Length". In the penultimate screen, you have the possibility to activate the Automatic Loop function of SampleRobot. In this case, we leave it inactive. Click on Finish. Now the recording process is about to start... Because you are using a MIDI sound generator, you choose "Automatic Recording", this way SampleRobot can perform the recordings automatically by sending MIDI commands. MIDI Output and MIDI Channel must also be defined accordingly. Finally, you can enter the correct Program Change command. Select setting "0" if no such command is to be sent. To be on the safe side, check whether the desired sound is still selected in the sound generator. Play some notes whose level you should see in the SampleRobot level meter. In the next steps, specify the range of the following recording in octaves and the number of dynamic gradations (the MONTAGE format supports up to eight dynamic gradations). This is followed by the step size for sampling (Key Step). You can create Samples per semitone or at greater intervals. The latter method then uses transpositions for intermediate pitches, which saves memory space. Now press "Start Recording". SampleRobot will now make the recordings independently while showing the progress in the front window. The next step is to specify the length for each recording (Note Length). You need to think along because recordings that are too short simply cut off longer sounds. YAMAHA.COM 13

When this procedure is finished, close the window. In the main window, you can then choose between the Project, the Multisample, and the individual Samples in three tabs. The corresponding waveform appears in the middle, while a virtual keyboard at the bottom shows an overview of the position of the Samples in the form of blue dots. Then connect the stick to your MONTAGE (USB to Device). Press Utility and select "Load" in the display. Specify the desired format via "Content Type" to display the saved File. The File can now be loaded and the sound can be played directly! Please note that you might overwrite your current User Data when loading the Samples. Please save your User Data accordingly in advance. IT GOES ON... You can click on the Samples at any time to audition them. However, you can also access the waveform at this point, for example to improve start and end points - the socalled Wave Robot. TRANSFER TO MONTAGE Repeat the procedure with a sound that has a Sustain phase. In a Sampler, such sounds are usually set up with a Loop, which then imitates the Sustain phase. Activate the corresponding option in the Project Wizard accordingly. As soon as you do this, you will be able to select additional parameters for automatically adapting the Loop to the material. These parameters all depend on the type of sound selected and its Sustain phase. You will need to gain some experience here. Start with comparatively simple sounds in which the Sustain phase is characterised by as few modulations as possible. In many cases, you will get useful results due to the sophisticated Loop algorithms of SampleRobot. Here, too, it is possible to manually adjust the Loop positions in the respective waveform display of the software. In order to be able to play the sampled sound in MONTAGE, an export from SampleRobot via the corresponding entry in the main menu is necessary. Select Import/Export -> Export selected Project as... The Data Types Yamaha MONTAGE (*.X7U) and Yamaha MONTAGE (*.X7L) are available for selection. Specify a name and location and leave the other settings as they are. Copy the created File to a USB stick that you have formatted in MONTAGE. YAMAHA.COM 14

YOUR OWN SOUND ARCHIVE SampleRobot allows you to add sounds from other instruments to the MONTAGE Sound Library. Besides the possibility to record MIDI sound generators shown here, you can also convert Drum Computers or instruments without MIDI (semi-automatically) into Samples. But SampleRobot has a lot more to offer. In addition to the Project Wizard, it also offers a Preset Manager, which provides ready-made presets for specific recording scenarios. In addition, you can adjust the parameters for recording Multisamples directly in the main window. Even better, you can duplicate the settings of such a Multisample with a single mouse click and then, for example, change the associated Program Change command to call up a different sound, which you can of course play in advance via MIDI. Consequently, with a little preparation, you can select a whole set of sounds for sampling and store them in such prepared Multisample envelopes. The actual sampling can then be run through in another step in one go. Ingenious! A closer look into the English manual of SampleRobot is definitely worth it. You can download it via the corresponding entry in the Help menu of the software. Ulf Kaiser YAMAHA.COM 15

YAMAHA DTX402 SERIES SIMPLE OPERATION EVEN WITHOUT DISPLAY The new Yamaha DTX402 series not only has professional drum sounds and songs, but it is also very easy to use. In this short workshop, I would like to introduce you to the basic operating steps. It is immediately noticeable that the DTX402 Module has no display. Nevertheless, the operation is child's play. THE DRUM KITS The Module is equipped with 287 drum and percussion sounds as well as 128 keyboard sounds. Ten different Drum Kits have been programmed from these sounds, but they can be changed. To select a Drum Kit, simply press one of the Drum Kit buttons and the Module immediately switches to the corresponding sounds. It is important that "Play" lights up on the left. If this is not the case, simply press the button located above the "Play" indicator. THE SONGS The Module is equipped with ten songs/playalongs. For each Drum Kit, a song has been stored that corresponds to the music style of the Kit. So you first select the Drum Kit and then press the Start/Stop button. The song starts and you can play and practice. First, you can hear a Drum Track on the song. If you want to play to the music alone, simply press the Drum-On/ Off button. The Tempo can be changed using the "+/-" buttons. YAMAHA.COM 17

If you want to use another audio device, you can use the AUX IN connector (3.5mm stereo jack), for example, to practice to your favourite music from your mp3 player. THE METRONOME The Metronome button is of course used to activate or deactivate the Metronome. No matter if within a song or just for fun. BUT STILL A DISPLAY? THE TRAINING FUNCTIONS "DTX402Touch" is a free App for Android or ios devices. Once installed, the Module can be connected to the smartphone or tablet via the USB-to-Host interface. Depending on the manufacturer, you have to have the corresponding cables. The Module can then be easily operated via the touchscreen of your device. In addition, many other things can be set very easily. For instance, with the App, you can put together your own Drum Kits in the simplest way. But: This is also a topic for another workshop. The DTX402 Module also contains ten great Training Functions. All you have to do is press the "Play" button until the LED for "Training" lights up. The buttons for "Drum On/Off", "Song", and the Metronome also light up. Now select a Training Function. A corresponding table is printed on the Module. The Functions are described in detail in the User Manual. They alone would be enough material for another workshop. As soon as you press the "Song" button, a click will help you to enter the respective song. By pressing the button again, the song can be aborted at any time. The Drum Track can also be switched off here. CONCLUSION Whether with the App or without display, Yamaha has made the DTX402 easy to use. Since I always have my smartphone with me anyway, I prefer to use the App. And there are even more Apps that you should definitely try out. Have fun with the Yamaha DTX402 series! Your Ralf Mersch Tip: If the music is too quiet or too loud, simply hold down the "Song" button and change the volume using the Volume "+/-" buttons. YAMAHA.COM 18
