3 Virtuosi introduce the Classics Program and notes The State Ensemble of Violinists from Yakutia has enjoyed the name Siberian Virtuosi for quite some time. The name itself indicates that most of the program, which is performed by the Ensemble, has a virtuoso character that answers all kinds of violin repertoire. The musical education the members of the Ensemble receive is based on traditional methods of violin training. That is why their repertoire highlights the classics from Bach and Vivaldi to Tchaikovsky and Khachaturian, the music that is very familiar to audiences around the world. At the same time, the Ensemble doesn t limit itself to performing just the classical repertoire. With great pleasure they perform the contemporary music of Western and Russian composers, as well as special jazz and crossover arrangements written for them. This way, the audience can enjoy the full potential of the Ensemble. Toccata and Fugue in D Minor Johann Sebastian Bach ( ) When the Ensemble performs the Toccata and Fugue in D Minor by Bach, which was originally written for organ, the audience can almost hear the true organ sound. Scherzo Peter I. Tchaikovsky ( ) The Scherzo by Tchaikovsky, originally written for violin and piano, was arranged for the Siberian Virtuosi to illustrate the beauty of polyphonic sound. Hota Navarra Pablo de Sarasate ( ) Hota Navarra by Pablo de Sarasate is one of the favorites of the Ensemble. Their performance of this piece sparkles with orchestral colors. Vocalise Sergei Rachmaninoff ( ) Vocalise by Sergei Rachmaninoff is a polyphonically written theme that reaches the heights of penetration. Caprice No. 1 Niccolo Paganini ( ) The first Caprice of Paganini, compared to the 24th Caprice of Paganini (where all variations are performed by canon), showcases the Ensemble s ability to play in unison. The whole Ensemble sounds like one violin, overcoming the technical difficulties of some of the most challenging pieces written for violin solo.

4 Scherzo and Tarantella Henryk Wieniawski ( ) The same effect of unison playing was used in the arrangement of the Scherzo and Tarantella by Henryk Wieniawski. The whole Ensemble performs this piece together. Their phrasing, interpretation and ability to breath together between phrases is very impressive to audiences. Imitating Albeniz Rodion Shchedrin (1932 ) We include Spanish music in most of our programs for many reasons. We thought that Shchedrin s Imitating Albeniz made a spectacular choice for a Spanish piece written by a Russian composer. We can t wait to play it for American audiences. Spanish Dance No. 1 Manuel de Falla ( ) The young spirit of the Ensemble their artistry and virtuosity is heard from the beginning to the end in the Spanish Dance of Manuel de Falla. Hungarian Dances No. 1 Johannes Brahms ( ) The Hungarian Dances are a set of 21 lively tunes based mostly on Hungarian themes. They vary from about one to four minutes in length. They are among Brahms most popular works. We bring you our version and interpretation of one of his most famous dances. INTERMISSION Summer from the Four Seasons Antonio Vivaldi ( ) Everyone is a soloist in Vivaldi s Summer from the Four Seasons. This piece was written for violin solo and chamber orchestra. Rondo for Violin and Piano Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart ( ) Beautifully arranged by Fritz Kreisler, the Rondo for Violin and Piano has become a program favorite for many world famous violinists. Air on the G String Johann Sebastian Bach ( ) This piece is an adaptation by violinist August Wilhelmj of Air, the second movement from Bach s Orchestral Suite No. 3 in D Major. By transposing the key of its original D Major to C Major and down an octave, Wilhelmj was able to play the piece on only one string of his violin, the G string. We love it for its heart and soul. Scherzo Felix Mendelssohn ( ) The original score of the Scherzo by Felix Mendelssohn, as material develops, overflows with watercolors. Rondo Antonio Bazzini ( ) Antonio Bazzini was an Italian violinist, composer and teacher. As a composer his most enduring work is his chamber music which has earned him a central place

5 in the Italian instrumental renaissance of the 19th century. However, his success as a composer was overshadowed by his reputation as one of the finest concert violinists of his time. The Rondo for violin showcases the great virtuosity that Bazzini possessed. Yacutean Dance K. Gerasimov We can t forget about our own culture. Close your eyes and try to imagine one of the Yacutean Dances performed to the music of Gerasimov. Libertango Astor Piazzola ( ) The name of Astor Piazzolla is recognized around the world. His new style of tango incorporated elements from jazz and classical music. We offer you our version of Libertango arranged specifically for the Siberian Virtuosi. Walk along the Hollywood M. Ermoshkin Walk along the Hollywood is a small bouquet of melodies, famous worldwide, from Hollywood movies. The Sabre Dance Aram Khachaturian ( ) The Sabre Dance is a movement in the final act of the ballet Gayane, written by Armenian composer, Khachaturian. Due to its exceptionally exciting rhythm, The Sabre Dance established a place for itself in common concert practice, leading also to various adaptations in popular music. We feel that it makes a great finale to our colorful program we call Virtuosi introduce the Classics. Program is subject to change.
