Technology definitions. Aspect ratio: the relationship of your TVscreen s width to its height. For example, a standard TV size of 4:3 means 4 inches of width for every 3 inches of height; 16:9 means there are 16 inches of screen width for every 9 inches of height. Some movies will still have black borders above and below the image, even on a 16:9 HDTV. Movies appearing this way are filmed with an aspect ratio of 21:9 or even 22:9. These movies are called Cinemascope movies. HDTV: high-definition television is the newest standard when it comes to television viewing. HDTV showcases programming and content filmed in high definition; almost every program in prime time on ABC, CBS, and NBC is in HD. HDTV offers spectacularly beautiful picture quality and sound, creating a theater-like experience in your home. What is PIP? You can view a small onscreen picture in a picture (PIP) of the channels you re browsing while watching a show. Learn more on p Pixel: (short for picture element ) tiny dots that convey light and combine to form a video picture on your TV. Resolution: the number of vertical pixels viewable onscreen. The higher the better for picture definition. (HDTV can contain 720 or 1080 vertical pixels; standard is 480.) TV programs: ntelos Video programming is delivered to your home as streams of data that allow viewing or recording. TV signal: a standard TV signal is comprised of 480 visible lines, while a high-definition signal is comprised of up to 1080 visible lines. The horizontal resolution of HDTV is up to 1920, for a total pixel count of over 2 million. This is 6 times that of standard definition, which is less than half a million pixels.

There are five settings: > Normal: displays the normal image. > Zoom 1 to 3: increases the zoom. > Stretch: expands the image to fill the screen (may cause distortion of picture). > Wait for the zoom symbol to disappear. Zoom will affect all channels, not just the one you ve changed settings on. Need help? Dial 611 from your ntelos home phone or NTELOS to reach your ntelos Video expert. 29

33 If you ever experience problems, first try these steps. The receiver won t turn on. Check that the unit is plugged in. If it is, try plugging another device into the socket to make sure power is flowing to it. If the power is working, there may be something wrong with your remote control. The remote won t control the receiver. Unplug the device for a few seconds and then plug it back in. There is video, but no sound. First check to see if the volume is muted by pressing MUTE or + on the VOL button. Try changing the channel to see if the problem is only with that one channel. If your system uses standard video or s-video connectors, be sure that you have connected the audio-out jacks on the receiver to the audio-in jacks on your TV or audio receiver. Sound is good, but picture is poor. Check the connections of your video cables to make sure they are properly connected. Also, try changing the channel to be sure that the problem is not just on that one channel. If you do not have a connection after five minutes, make sure all the connections to your receiver are secure. If you re still having problems, call ntelos at 611 on your home phone or call NTELOS and select the prompt for Video Repair. Onscreen message says Signal temporarily not available. Try changing the channel to see if the problem is only with that one channel. If it appears on more than one channel, there is a problem with the signal. Call ntelos at 611 on your home phone or call NTELOS and select the prompt for Video Repair. My receiver will not respond. The green LED surrounding the receiver s power button should flash each time a remote button is pressed. If this happens, but the receiver does not respond to your commands, you may need to perform a restart. To restart your receiver, press and hold the POWER button for 5 seconds. If you are still experiencing problems, call ntelos at 611 on your home phone or call NTELOS and select the prompt for Video Repair. The remote is not working. Make sure there isn t anything in the path between the remote and the remote sensor on your receiver. Be sure you are aiming your remote at the receiver. You have to be within 20 feet of the receiver for the remote to work properly. If these steps don t solve the problem, try replacing the batteries in your remote. (For remote battery replacement instructions, see p. 5.) Call ntelos at 611 on your home phone or call NTELOS and select the prompt for Video Repair. 31
