Washington TARC NEWS 2nd QUARTER 2012 The Presidents Corner Sorry we are a bit late with the newsletter, it has been a busy time this summer and hot. That, as we always say is better than shoveling snow. I trust that everyone is having a good summer. Our Field Day was really great, while we could have had more participation. The guys that did come out did a very good job. Let me just say thank you to all you guys. I actually got to stay the night because I have retired since last year. Sherry tells me that over the course of the 30 or so hours that we were there 48 to 50 people showed up. Our EOC operating station has been moved from the Police station to the Fire station down town at 550 Washington Ave. As you might have heard on the news the Police Department has a continuing roof leak which has caused a considerable amount of mildew damage to the building. So the city EOC and of course our EOC operations have both been moved. So far this year we have been very lucky and have had no activation. We are hoping that our good weather will continue. I want to thank the guys who helped me move the equipment to the fire station, they were as follows Bob Farrington W4YBI, Kevin Black KJ4ET, Pat Geran KK4AXV and Sherry Ku4zo Our upcoming club meeting will be held August 28 th I believe Jeff W3HVU has a good program scheduled, so please come out and bring a friend. PAGE 2 TARC Field Day 2012/Fox Lake Park We did what this club does well at Field Day.

That was John Ferguson he was issued the call letters of KK4KFY, but turned them in through the vanity system for his old call which is N4KFQ.

It was good to see KE4BBL Cindy and KD4CBV George Bortle, who came by on Sunday and made a few contacts.

We were glad to have KJ4ERZ John Demase who was on the air a good amount of time and made over 100 contacts, thanks John.

2 PAGE 2 TARC Field Day 2012/Fox Lake Park We did what this club does well at Field Day. We had a good time raising antennas, visiting, talking and eating. Hey we even gave a Technician test to a former ham at night by flashlight. That was John Ferguson he was issued the call letters of KK4KFY, but turned them in through the vanity system for his old call which is N4KFQ. So our Congratulations go out to John. We enjoyed having some former club members come around and join in the fun. It was good to see KE4BBL Cindy and KD4CBV George Bortle, who came by on Sunday and made a few contacts. George works on Tuesday evenings, so they can t attend club meetings. We were glad to have KJ4ERZ John Demase who was on the air a good amount of time and made over 100 contacts, thanks John. He also rejoined the club, welcome back. The Club accomplished what we needed to do, which is to practice our emergency skills of setting up our antennas/equipment at a remote area and getting on the air. TARC would like to thank all that came out and helped. The list would be to long as we had about 20 that helped and a total of who came by. So may we just say a big thank you to everyone? He stated that you would need to call him in the evening, because Wayne sleeps in the day time and that his phone number is The secretary s report was read and approved. 6-Jan asked Archie, Warren and Don to put the repeater back up and stated he had checked out the new Coax. 7-Jan then gave review of our recent trip to Pa and Dayton Ohio. He said he has purchased some Master 2 power amps at a good price for our repeaters.jan also answered some questions about the Hamfest. 8-Ozzie N4SCY spoke briefly about the Fema form ICS 213 and how to pass traffic in shelters. 9-Pat KK4AXV talked about our Field Day Plans H covered the radios, antennas and food and encouraged all to participate. Pat also gave us some nice posters to distribute. 1- Everyone was welcomed by our President Jan W4REN. 2-We all recited the pledge. 3- We all introduce ourselves. 4- The secretary s and the treasures reports were read and approved. 5-Stand Harrell KJ4NUV who is the central Brevard EC for Bears told us about his tour of their shelters in the central portion of the county. He said that he could not get out with a handheld in most of their shelters. He talked about different ways of solving the problem. He stated that he thinks using a Comet Flat Cable Window Gap Coax Jumper. He also told us about the antenna situation there. 7-Bob W4YBI ask that members please participate in the Skywarne nets when he activates a net. Even if it is just a drill please check in. 8-jan talked about programing the fire dept. radios 9-We were dismissed and had our refreshments.
