6 Who we are Hecto Systems HECTOSYSTEMS is located in Turin, completely with Italian capital and for many years engaged in designing and manufacturing of electronic products. Hectosystems enters the safety world with high precision sensors measurement and applications and with ultrasound and infrared technologies. Since 2000 the company is specializing in safety so decides to invest in the design and manufacture of optoelectronic safety equipment and launches high-tech safety barriers with mark Red Beam. HECTOSYSTEMS accumulates own experience paying particular attention to safety in the workplace according to EEC Directive 8, the Law 626/94. The objectives of this directive are aimed to systematic identification of work risks, their elimination, prevention and deterrence before they produce undesirable effects. In these years dedicated to the development of safety barriers, the company is established in the Italian and international market, offering consumers in the short terms of supply premium quality, 100% MADE IN ITALY, targeted solutions and competitive prices. 8 Safety sistems Photoelectric barriers immediately recognizable by its characteristic yellow color as safety instruments in any environment where they are installed. Safety system Red Beam creates a safe two-dimensional infrared area which makes it particularly suitable to the conditions in critical areas of industrial production, where people work closely with all faster and more powerful equipment such as presses, robotic lines and many others. Red Beam is designed to protect the operator having access to the danger zone, where the danger comes from the working moving equipment. It can also be applied in circumstances where the necessary control over the process (painting), or by simply counting the steps (storage). The introduction of object in the workspace of the barrier leads to interruption of dialogue of individual elements of the system that immediately involves a safety relay, which blocks operating equipment and runs connected acustic and visible hazard warning systems to completely eliminate state of danger. Integral safety system Read Beam works on microprocessor technology, providing complete diagnostic of dangerous situations with a detailed analysis of the problem. Today Red Beam is one of the most advanced System on the market for its flexibility and its advanced properties. 6 Red Beam

9 Safety System Red Beam consists mainly of two elements: emitter and receiver with one or more infrared beams that are synchronized with each other creating an invisible controlling barrier. The emitter sends to receiver unit photoelectric beams. Emitter The emitter has a series of elements throughout the length, from which emanates infrared beams; the number of these beams varies and is determined by the resolution of the barrier, which is supplied with the device CPU, which performs all the functions of monitoring and control of the barrier. Any anomaly of the functioning of the receiver is blocked for its response time of each particular model. Receiver The receiver is a clever element and it needs to take of arrival of infrared beams and it is made from the photosensitive elements with the same number as that of the emitter. All operations and control system are implemented by unit CPU of receiver. The receiver and emitter communicate with each other by infrared beams. Light indicator provides information about status of the barrier and the equalization. Except the interruption of the beam, just the slightest anomaly functioning to block receiver during working device, stopping the work of equipment there barrier has been installed. Before each cyclical scanning receiver controls that ambient conditions would not affect the state of their own photosensitive elements. Red Beam 7

10 Safety standard Risk assessment Standards EN1050 offers a systematic procedure for risk assessment, to the selection and application of safety systems most adapted to reduce it or completely eliminates it. Risk assessment is is divided into 4 phases: Risk assessment to establish the safety category: S injury severity - S1 lung damage (usually reversible) - S2 severe damage (usually non reversible) or death. F frequency / duration of exposure risk - F1 from rare to fairly frequent and / or short time exposure to risk - F2from frequent to prolonged and / or long time exposure to risk. P possibility to avoid the danger - P1 possible in special conditions (escape or interference by third parties). - P2 almost impossible (the phenomenon manifests it self quickly). SIL (Integrity Level Safety) a new standard acting in to force and obliging constructors to provide the safety level of photosensitive protection devices on board of potentially dangerous equipment. Barriers Red Beam ensure adherence to these standards. UNI EN ISO :2007 and corresponds : ISO :2006 PLd for safety level 2 and ISO :2006 PLe for safety level 4 Establishing the work limits of equipment It consists in evaluating all allowed mode of working taking into account the level of training, experience and habits of the user. 11 Safety Categories Safety barriers Red Beam can be 2 or 4 categories. Apply safe components and safety principles. Safety function is detected in the corresponding intervals control system equipment. The periodic repetition of failures account may trigger the failure of safety functions during the interval between inspections. Failure of the safety features is revealed during the inspection. Potentially dangerous movements are controlled by terminal safety restrictor. Periodic monitoring of safety features is implemented at next startup of equipment or during a new cycle. During management the safety function is controlled. Failure of the safety features is diagnosed at the next check 2 inputs with PO 2 outputs: one for operation and second for signaling Cycle interaction (recommended) VPeriodic monitoring The requirements of category B. Apply safe components and safety principles. Parts related to safety are designed in such mode that : A single failure in one of these parts does not trigger a loss of safety function Single failure revealed before or during the subsequent query safety features. If it can damage the unit, the safety function will be supported. Breakdowns are diagnosed for a short time to avoid loss of safety function. Redundancy integrated in the system. Any failure will not lead to loss of safety function. Redundancy at the entrance - two channels with positive inputs emanating from the safety equipment so that it is possible to determine the displacement of the contact. Reservation at the entrance - 2 contactor. Monitoring of the adductor (cycle interaction). 12 Main Properties Photoelectric safety barriers is photosensitive equipment consisting of a emitter, which emits one or more beams taken by receiver, thus creating intangible controlled area. Main properties are: Safety Category Risk assessment in different equipment or different pieces of equipment can detect different risk levels. You must install the safety level that proportional to risk. The Act EN954 defines a category of part related to safety according to the following parameters: Severity of injury (reversible, irreversible, fatal). Frequency and duration of exposure to danger. Ability to avoid danger. According to European standards CEI EN , safety barrier can be of 2 or 4 category. Resolution Resolution of the photoelectric barrier is minimum size that subject should be in order to from controlled area it certainly launched the protective equipment and as a consequence should stop dangerous movement of equipment. Various optical resolution allows to adapt protection of body parts that are in dangerous zone. Thus it is possible to create a protected area for finger, but if you increase resolution also limbs will be protected up to body protection in the short and long distances using a wall mirror columns. 13 Working Range Working range is the maximum distance that can be between emitter and receiver. Safety Barriers Red Beam can be as with short and long range in order to prevent access to dangerous zone of different sizes. Barriers with long-range designed for perimeter protection of large size with multiple parties access. Such protection is supported using one or more mirrors. Using mirrors it needs consider absorbing factor that they possess and it varies from 10% to 25%. Useful Height Useful height is the height controlled by barrier. If it is horizontal this parameter indicates the depth of protected area. Response time is the time spent by barrier to sending an alarm after scanning protected area. 14 Products Range As above mentioned safety barriers Red Beam can be of 2 or 4 safety category. Company offers two lines of products: line Basic and line Advanced for more for more exigent application. Line Basic Safety barriers Red Beam Basic have integrated CPU with relay output 1A 24 Vcc or 0 Vcc on request normally open contact. Above mentioned barriers are equipped with self-restart function in order to make easy alignment system. Line Advanced Safety Barriers Red Beam Advanced have an integrated control panel with access to relay in 1A with one normally closed contact and with one clean contact on output. Barriers Advanced have programmable reset function, which can be manual, semi-automatic or automatic. The control unit located directly at the barrier consists of an alphanumeric display, a graded scale of light, LED alignment and key programming. This type of barrier has integrated functions muting and blanking. Operation Modes During manual restart is activated relay inside of barrier by external buttons. During semiautomatic restart is activated relay inside of barrier when you turn on barrier manually after that all subsequent cycles of rebooting are automatically activated. During automatic restart relay inside of barrier is activated automatically without need of external commands. 12 Red Beam

15 Function Muting Function Muting is a temporary, automatic disabling light barrier protection, carried out in conditions of safety in accordance with working cycle of equipment. This function is necessary when during normal automatic cycle it needs intersection of some parts of equipment or material being treated without causing blocking of the equipment. This function is not available at line Basic. Functione Override Override function is intended to allow remove material that is in protected area. This may occur because of equipment stop when crossing material through the protected area. Two signals override can be activated by an appropriate switch which provides the required two-level, or with the pulse which activates the state level override. This feature is available only for models T, L, I. FunctionBlanking Blanking function suppresses action of or more beams of light curtains. There are fixed and floating blanking. FIXED blanking is used in cases where you need to install a light curtain of serving a fixed part of any equipment. FLOATING blanking is used in cases where you need to install a light curtain on the protruding part of any equipment, despite the fact that this part can move longitudinally within the protected area. This can be a governing body of any unit machine, to which access can be achieved no other way than through a light curtain (if the functional safety is not provided with another arrangement of a light curtain). The condition for activate the light curtain (turn off the equipment) is the intersection of more beams than the specified configuration of the light curtain. Function FeedBack (EDM) Function feedbek (more known as EDM) aims to monitor the state of external contacts, circuit breakers to which is connected the barrier thus preventing by blocking the system that one or more contact are jammed. This function is not available at line Basic. LINE ADVANVCED LINE BASIC MUTING: Light signal that indicates if function muting / blanking is active or no and helps to align barrier BREAK: indicates if there are interrupt beams or if barrier is in normal ambient conditions SAFE: it is radiant if alimentation of receiver is correct F1 - F2: function keys, access by password GRADED LIGHT SCALE: indicates areas where beams interrupt or state of beams during function of barrier Alphanumeric display: with other signals indicates the state of barrier Red Beam 13

16 Line Master & Slave This function is apply to line Basic or Advanced in any model, combines by cable length not exceeding 30 cm, 2 barrier thus articulated. Choosing an appropriate model that can be divided at any point thus forming two components: Master, containing CPU and first series of beams; Slave takes remaining beams. Total number of beams will not be lower or higher than the base model chosen. Useful when you are interested in both horizontal and vertical protection to prevent the operator to approach the danger zone. 14 Red Beam

17 Line V Barriers line V are safety equipment that create two-dimensional area for body protection in the work area. Intersection of controlled activates barrier by stopping dangerous movement of equipment. All models V belong to safety category 4. These barriers have working range of 0,1-3,0 m These models are applicable to all systems, palletizing, packing and packaging in general. Table below shows different combinations of protection. 18 Available Configurations Model T with intersecting beams: The intersection point must be inside protected area to prevent access of operator. The beam s intersection protects area as in input and output (bidirectional). Model L with intersecting beams: Two sensors are located inside protected area so that operator could not catch them without interrupting first beams of the barrier. They serve to open output of an object or even better pallets. Muting is activated following a break in both photocells. Model T with parallel and serial beams : Activation occurs with interception of one or two pairs of beams. Both sides are active 2 beams in such way as to ensure area protection of input and output objects (bidirectional). Model L with parallel and serial beams : Two sensors are located inside protected area so that operator could not catch them without interrupting first beams of the barrier. They serve to open output of an object or even better pallets. Muting is activated following a break in both photocells. 16 Red Beam

19 Model I with beams: For model supplied without arms, version I lets to connect 2 or 4 single photocells posted according to need apply. Correct functioning of the safety barrier is entrusted to the competence of installers. 20 Line M Barriers line M are safety devices which create two-dimensional area for body protection in work area.intersection of controlled area leads barrier in action with following stopping dangerous movement of equipment. All models of line M are of safety category 2 and 4. These barriers have three different working range (0,1-6,0 m 0,3-17,0 4,0-60,0 m m) which ensure protection of area depending on available sizes. Table below shows different combinations of protection. These parts are optional and are supplied in kit of 4 pieces for each barrier couple. HTB5-ST19 is supporting bracket angle model, it lets to install barrier with angle 90 relatively to fixation point.
