137 Screen Printing Overview Screen printing (also known as silkscreen) is a technique that uses a woven mesh to support an ink-blocking stencil to receive a desired image. Basically it is the process of using a stencil to apply ink onto apparel items. In addition to traditional spot-color inks, we offer specialty inks and art distressing to make your logo or design really stand out. We also offer 4-color process inks for white and light colors and can achieve simulated 4-color process looks on dark colors. You can learn more about these techniques below. Our screen print decorators will determine the best method of separation based on the artwork, garment color, garment style and qty. Screen Print Methods: Spot-color: Spot-color images are printed with specific Pantone colors. Spot-color art may be solid logos or contain halftones. This technique is effective in printing cartoons, typography, logos and line art. Four-color Process: The process of reproducing a full-color design from the original artwork to the screen printed surface using the four Primary Colors of CMYK - Cyan, Magenta, Yellow,

138 & Key (Black). These process-color inks are transparent and blend to make the proper colors. Simulated Process: Process uses spot color inks and special separations using halftones to achieve a similar photo-realistic look as four color process. Soft-Hand: The feel of ink on a substrate s surface. A soft hand has a light feel. Specialty Inks: Offered in several varieties, including clear soft-hand for tonal looks as well as liquid silver and gold for impact. Underbase: A think layer of ink (typically white) is laid down beneath the overall design and acts like a primer. The second coat is then applied on top of the underbase to create the desired look/ color. Using underbase is an accurate way to assure color matching, especially with PMS inks. Embroidery Overview Embroidery is the handicraft of decorating fabric and other materials with needle and thread. Embroidery can also incorporate other materials such as sequins or beads. Fabric - The fabrics least suited for embroidery are thin or flimsy fabrics like silk, rayon, or super fine t-shirts. Holes from the sewing needle are likely to show on these very fine fabrics. Backing can be visibly noticeable on these garments, especially if they are white or light in color.

139 Thread - There are two main thread types used for embroidery. They are rayon and polyester. Each type has its advantages and is selected based on the logo or design and type off fabric to be sewn. Rayon thread is shiny and smooth, It has a soft finish and is best for more delicate or high end clothing including corporate apparel, polos, and garments intended for retail sale. Polyester thread is the more utilitarian thread and is used more often in uniforms for sports team or industrial industries. It has a more matte appearance and is durable and strong. Polyester thread is also known for its ability to withstand bleaching and detergent. Some Additional Decoration Options Digital Printing - Also referred to as direct-to-garment printing, this eco-friendly, water-based process prints from a computer file right onto the garment, resulting in a soft, slightly washed looking design. A great option for low-quantity orders as well as multi-color designs. Sequin Embroidery - Create eye-catching looks for women s garments with sequin embroidery. One color sequin can be used in combination with multiple embroidery thread colors to create a single unique design.

140 Laser Appliqué - High-tech laser cut appliqué embellishment can be used to create a variety of looks. Choose from a large assortment of appliqué fabrics and colors to produce everything from classic to fashion designs in single or multiple layers. Appliqué Patches - Patches use laser appliqué and embroidery to offer a fun, fashion embellishment on your hoodies and other garments. Patches are approximately 4 x 4 and can be created with any of the stock appliqué fabric. Reverse Appliqué - With a laser bridge machine, we take appliqué embellishment one step further with reverse appliqué. To achieve this look, we cut through the garment surface to reveal a layer of appliqué below. You can even combine reverse appliqué with embroidery or regular appliqué to create a multi-dimensional design. Laser Etching - Utilizing laser technology, we can etch a design on a variety of fabrics. The end result differs by fabric, but is always a precise, clean mark that offers a unique, upscale look. Our laser can achieve smaller detailing than other laser machines. Take advantage of unique placements, such as across zippers and seams or down sleeves to create a design that looks like it s part of the fabric.
