In celebration of National Library Week, local authors will be on hand to discuss and sell their books and refreshments will be served. This is a free event sponsored by LOGICAL, a group of nine Gloucester County Libraries working together to offer the most complete resources possible. The number of authors attending is growing every day. For a current list of authors and more information please visit April hath put a spirit of youth in everything William Shakespeare Computer Classes for Seniors Starting this Month Tuesdays, 1:30-3:30pm Or Wednesdays, 11:30-1:30pm We are happy to announce a new series of Senior Computer Classes. Participants will learn how to do a variety of things including: Use Windows XP, Access websites and search online, Create and use an account and Create and use a Facebook account. Class size is limited and some classes require prerequisites. It is recommended that seniors sign up for the entire series. Register at the Reference Desk or call ext 206 for more information. April is Jazz Appreciation Month Madiri Brothers Jazz Trio Monday, April 23rd 7:00PM Local musicians, The Midiri Brothers, graduated from Glassboro State College in the 1980 s and have been making music ever since. The brothers spent a decade playing to audiences in Philadelphia, New York and Atlantic City before branching out to perform at Jazz festivals and Jazz clubs across the country. Come out and jive with this trio featuring Joe Madiri on clarinet and saxophones and Paul on the vibraphone, xylophone, marimba, drums and trombone!

His plan was ambitious if not farfetched: Use the national rugby team, the Springboks long an embodiment of white supremacist rule to embody and engage a new South Africa as they prepared to host the 1995 World Cup. The string of wins that followed not only defied the odds, but capped Mandela s miraculous effort to bring South African s together in a hard-won, enduring bond. Conversations in the Italian Language Part 2 With Francesca Della Porta-Charles Thursdays, March 1st, 8th, 22nd, 29th, April 5th and 12th 7:00 PM (No class on March 15th) This free six week enrichment series is designed to introduce adults to conversational Italian. Master the sounds of the Italian alphabet. Learn greetings, common expressions and introductions. Learn cultural words concerning the arts. 4 The Bookworms Book Club Thursday, May 3rd 1:00 The Bookworms is a new reading group for adults that meets at 1:00 on the first Thursday of each month. This month s book is The Art of Racing in the Rain by Garth Stein. Copies of the book are available at the library and you can find the book list with upcoming selections at the Reference or Circulation Desk. The Art of Racing in the Rain: Nearing the end of his life, Enzo, a dog with a philosopher s soul, tries to bring together the family, pulled apart by a three year custody battle between Zoe s maternal grandparents and her father Denny, a race car driver. Independent Film Screenings A Normal Life Please Monday, April 2nd 6:30PM 78 Minutes 2008 This documentary is in Japanese with English subtitles. Working a staggering 552 hours a month without benefits or sick pay, a regime that barely affords him time to wash or eat, truck driver Nobukazu Kaikura is encouraged to join his local workers union, an act that pits him against his company who hire thugs to discourage him. A female cyborg cop and her partner hunt a mysterious and powerful hacker known as the Pupper Master. Plan 10 From Outer Space Monday, April 30th 6:30PM 80 Minutes 1995 Neither a sequel, nor a remake of Ed Wood s 1959 film Plan 9 From Outer Space, in fact even more bizarre and imaginative, this outrageous sciencefiction comedy follows a woman who accidentally discovers the Plaque of Kolob which leads her to discover an insidious alien plot for world domination. Long ago, this plot was predicted by a disreputable early

Divergent Book Discussion Monday, April 16th at 6PM Did you enjoy Hunger Games? Are you looking for the nest hot series? Divergent by Veronica Roth was voted the best book of 2011 and takes dystopian literature to a new level. The Library has secured extra copies of the book, so contact the Youth Services Librarian (monroeteens@gmail.com) to get a copy, read it and come to our book talk where we ll trade ideas about the different conspiracies and conflicts in the book. The sequel comes out in May, so we ve got to make our predictions now! Sign ups are required. Earth Day Recycled Book Craft Make a Sunburst Mirror Saturday, April 28th from 2PM-4PM In honor of Earth Day, teens will recycle books to create a unique piece of art! Each teen will get to choose from a selection of children s books, antique books and popular favorites. They can add designs to the pages or go for the natural look. We ll embellish the mirror with gems and other supplies. Parents should be aware that this workshop requires the responsible and safe use of a hot glue gun. Sign ups are required. National Library Week Contest Middle School students are welcome to design and draw a bookmark for the library. Just stop by the children s desk and pick up an entry form. All entries must be returned to the library by 9PM on Thursday April 6th. We will display all entries for the patrons to vote on. We look forward to seeing your designs. Spring Story Hour Spring Storytime will begin in April. This session will run for six weeks from April 18th to May 30th. The schedule is as follows: 3-4 years-olds : Wednesday at 11:30 AM 4-6 year-olds: Wednesdays at 1:30 PM months (with an adult): Thursdays at 11:30AM Siblings are always welcome. (Please note there will be no story hour on Wednesday April 25th) The Bug Lady is Coming to Visit Saturday, April 14th at 2PM Get up close and personal with some of our worlds smallest creatures. Susanne Lypka, the Bug Lady, will introduce us to some of her live bug friends. We ll see a puppet show and read some stories too. Ages 4 and up are welcome. Sign ups are required. Lego Night Wednesday, April 18th at 7PM Kids ages 4 and up can come build fantastic creations with the Lego we provide. This program is limited to 20 children and sign ups are required. Please call ext 204. Family Game Night Wednesday, April 25th at 7PM Join us for Family Game Night. Families of all ages and sizes are welcome to come play board games like Candy Land and Chutes and Ladders. Call ext. 204 to sign up ext 204 for more information or to sign up. Poetry Jam! Saturday, April 28th at 2PM In honor of National Poetry Month, we invite you to bring along your favorite poems, either you own work or someone else s, to read aloud. Your Librarian will share some of her favorites too. Ages 6 and up. Signups are required.

6 The Library is currently displaying photographs by Bob Reid in the Main Hall Gallery. Mr Reid is a local photographer who teaches classes at Gloucester County College. Featured in the Library Display Case are Ukrainian Easter Eggs from the collection of local teacher John Wernega These items will be featured throughout the month of April.
