2 What is it? A two-part workshop for adults that teaches the basics of 3D printing. Workshop attendees will be using CAD Software (TinkerCad) to design or adapt models that can then be printed using our 3D printer, a TAZ Lulzbot 6. Try out the TinkerCad software for free here: Why are you hosting the workshop? To provide access to this technology to the community of Penticton To teach our patrons about 3D printing in a stress-free environment To demonstrate that 3D printing is an interest or hobby that any one can pursue! When is it? Saturdays: September 8 and September 15th, 10:00-11:30 am Where is it? The Who can attend? Adults ages 19+. No library card is required to register. How do I Register? Registration is currently open and may even be full now! Space is limited to 10 attendees. If you missed these workshops, stay tuned for future 3D printing programs. Please note: When you register it will be for both workshop dates. If you are unable to commit to attending both dates, please consider waiting to attend another 3D printing program. Other Questions Do I need any pre-requisite knowledge? Yes - we ask that everyone who signs up for the workshop has basic computer skills and is comfortable using a laptop. Will there be a waitlist? Yes. If a space becomes available we will contact you. 3 From the desks of. Ever wonder why it can take a while for the items you order to get on our shelves? Well.. It s not as simple as it might seem! Once an item is ordered, it has to be catalogued so you can find it in the library catalog. If we can find a record from another library, it s a simple matter of copying the record and adding our local call number. If we have to start from scratch, it takes more time. All the information has to be input by hand. Penticton Public Library s Technical Services Staff After the item is catalogued, we have to process it. First we make a spine label for it, then carefully cover it with protective plastic or a dust jacket. If it s a DVD or audiobook, processing has even more steps. The final part of processing is stamping the items. Only then can these items be checked in and then put on the shelves if they re not already on hold for someone. Putting items on hold/ requesting them actually speeds up the whole process. We fast track them, that is, push them to the front of the line, so we can get them to you as soon as possible! DIRTY BOOK SALES Looking for more ways to support your local library? We have book sales several times a year! We sell: books, audiobooks, magazines, DVDs, & CDs! Already have too many books? We accept used book donations. Most of the books that do not make it onto our shelves are sold during the book sales. These funds are used to buy new books to keep our collection current. Interested in donating items but not sure what we take? Just give us a call at ! We also have books for sale all year in the library!

Can you leap like a lizard or slither like a snake? We want you! Join us for a scale of a tale, creating crafts, stories, and laughing with puppets. Friday, September 28 3:30-5:00 pm Drop-in Children s Library HALLOWEEN HOOT Come in costume if you dare to our yearly Halloween afterschool hoot! 5 FABULOUS FAMILY MOVIES Drop-in at the library and join us for our Fabulous Family Movies! While these movies are chosen to be family friendly, please be advised that there may be some scenes that could frighten young children. All ages 2:00 pm start Saturday, September 29 Zootopia (108 minutes) LEGO CLUB PLUS! Once upon a time, the Lego club was only for Lego but! It s our second year of upgrades, so not only do we have Megablox for little builders and Qubits for curious creators, we also have Keva Planks to challenge even the most innovative of engineers! We re going to be MakeyMakey-ing our own band today using Scratch programming so we can stomp, clap, and squish to the beat! At the Library, we like our teens to tell us exactly what they want, but we hope this event will be very spooky. Saturday, October 13 7:00-9:30 pm YOUTH ADVISORY COMMITTEE (YAC) The YAC is a group of awesome teen volunteers who meet once a month to plan teen events, give feedback about teen services, and help the library order new things for our collection! It s also a great way to meet new people, and looks great on a resume (we have proof from other teens!) Teens can receive credit for volunteer hours at their schools.
