Bookings: Ph , acttheatre2@gmail.com or Last of the Summer Wine auditions Sunday 2 nd September at Last of the Summer Wine was a popular British comedy series that ran for 30 years. In this play, Foggy has designs on winning the affections of Nora Batty s niece, Constance, who has been engaged to Gifford Bewmont for many years. Foggy gains the help of Clegg to achieve his aims but chaos develops when Compo turns up and, also, a Flasher who is creating mayhem in the village. Characters Foggy (Walter C. Dewhurst). Tall male, 60 s. A former soldier, with exaggerated stories. Generally meek & incompetent. Considers himself the leader of the trio. Cleggy (Norman Clegg). Male, 60 s (shorter than Foggy). A cynical, nervous man, easily led and apprehensive at the others schemes. Compo (William Simmonite). Short male, 60 s. A rascally ruffian, always broke and scruffy. He has a soft spot for Nora, who rejects his advances. Nora Batty. Female, 60 s. A Battle-axe, who also has a soft side. Is keen to see her niece Constance settle down. 2
3 3 Constance. Female, 40 s. A rather frumpy woman, niece of Nora Batty, has been engaged to Gifford Bewmont for 14 years. Gifford Bewmont. Male, 40 s. A hapless, incompetent Special Constable, self-important, who has been engaged to Constance for 14 years. Flasher. Male, over 20. Fanatical young man, who is loose on the streets, with some innovative ideas about advertising. Actors will be required to do a cold read from the script and also give a short rendition of Ilkley Moor Bar Tat. Wheear as ta bin sin ah saw thee On Ilkla Moor baht at? Wheear as ta bin sin ah saw thee? Wheear as ta bin sin ah saw thee? On Ilkla Moor baht at! On Ilkla Moor baht at! On Ilkla Moor baht at! The play is on 2 nd -15 th November. For further information, please contact the director, John Sayles, on , or johnsayles48@gmail.com. Call for directors for 2019 Proposals to direct a full length or one-act play in our 2019 season must be in by Monday, 10 th September. You are requested to submit two plays so that we can choose the one that will best fit into our program. (You can choose to submit only one but, if it is not suitable, that doesn t provide an alternative.) You will need to complete the Proposal form, available on our website soon, and attach a copy of the script of each play. Please also study the Director s Responsibilities. The committee will read the scripts and determine our 2019 program in October. Changes to programming in 2019 The committee is considering ideas for possible changes to our programming arrangements for next year. Suggestions include: start at 7.30 instead of 8.00; add an extra matinee for each show (or start some performances earlier than 7.30); don t schedule shows on long weekends. Contact President Michele or any committee member with your thoughts on these suggestions or any other ideas you may have. There will be a survey available at the box office for the rest of this year for you to note your preferences.

We managed to get quite a lot done. In particular, under the guidance of Terry Frawley, we were able to prepare the theatre for the upcoming season of this year's theatre restaurant show (A Bar Called O'Malley's). Being a newbie I was fascinated to see how the regular theatre seats are concertinaed back, as well as how the stage is reconfigured to allow for the tables and chairs. In addition, we were able to fill a miniskip with detritus that is no longer able to be stored. All in all, I think a job well done. Thanks again. Spike Sargent.
