2 Corpus Christi Fellowship February 2001 A group of CCFers gather in Mexico to host a Christmas celebration. Corazón, the more you give, the more you receive. By John Christiana Corpus Christi Fellowship is active with the Familia Corazón Community in Pedregal, Mexico. We participate in annual Christmas parties for the children and their families, as well as assist in house builds for the needy families i n v o l v e d. Last December, we journeyed down south for the annual Christmas party for the children. Many thanks to Joanne Pinheiro, Roy English, and Judy Doyle for their tireless efforts in organizing the e v e n t. We met at Carrow s at four in the morning. A couple hours later we were unloading donations of clothes and food down in Mexico. And the adrenaline was kicking in. And the fun was kicking in. The Corazón Christmas party had begun. The joy of working with the exhuberent kids was more of a treat to ourselves than the kids. Watching their wonder as they were presented with toys and gifts was a sight to see. We played soccer, made animal balloons, face painted, played musical chairs, whacked the pinata, and ate a lunch made for kings and queens. The children were ever so appreciative of our e fforts. But for us, being able to give, we were able to receive. God has blessed us with the gift of giving, and we gave, and we received. This was their Christmas... but for many of us, it was our Christmas. You can partake in the next Corazón p roject, a housebuild on March 31. 4 We are your CCF Core Team Each issue of The Body will feature bios from the members of the 2001 CCF Core Team. This issue: Mark Huber and Randy Laya. Now we re not strangers, come introduce yourself! 5 Core Team Music, Mark Huber Like many of us here in Southern California, I am a transplanted midwestern boy from Dayton, Ohio. Wi t h traditional Catholic values and a sense of adventure, I arrived in Buena Park in 1982 for a temporary job relocation. Well, eighteen years later, I feel this is my home and I have enjoyed my many friends at CCF as my second family. I was introduced to CCF in 1992 by my friend Maria, who later married Co- L e a d e r, Tod Beane, proving marriage can happen in CCF. I got involved in singing for the Monday Night meetings right away, and have previously been on Music Core Team with T in 93. I was the Hospitality Team in 94, and assisted with the Newsletter in 95. In addition to these positions, I ve contributed to most of the Corazón trips and other service projects, finding them very personally rewarding. The Social Teams have o ffered some great events over the years most of which I have been able to enjoy. And, I have been blessed by the many retreats and other events provided by the Spirituality Team. I was fortunate to make a pilgrimage to the Shrine of Our Lady of Guadeloupe at the Basilica in Mexico City, coordinated by Nida Fernandez, along with several other friends from CCF in 96. That trip presented both spiritual and cultural blessings. I presently attend Our Lady of Guadeloupe Parish in La Habra. Call me a Roaming Catholic. Having a passion for Pro-Life, I have engaged in an Operation Rescue and contribute to various Pro-life ministries, in addition to writing politicians concerning key legislation. P r o f e s s i o n a l l y, I do industrial sales work in the electrical industry, currently for a small privately owned company. I am blessed with Christian fellow workers where I can share my faith and discuss and defend Catholics practices. When I m not working or involved in Core Team Spirituality, Randy Laya I am humbled to serve you this year as Spirituality co-leader. I am proud to be sharing this honor with Lynne Purkey. I grew up Catholic and really began my interest in Catholic spirituality when I was a teenager and attended a weekly prayer meeting at my parish. I then made a Long Beach Search weekend and was quickly drawn into leadership where I was able to serve our Lord for ten or so years. During that time I worked Search weekends, helped lead Life in the Spirit seminars, and led weekly fellowship meetings for a few years (among a whole bunch of other things). From Long Beach I moved to Albany, NY for approximately ten years and not long ago found the winters much too cold and white, and the summers much too hot and muggy. (Spring and Fall were awesome!) About a year and a half ago I decided to move back home to SoCal and I didn t pack a snow shovel! I live and work in Orange County and am glad to be back! My interests are the Catholic Mark Huber Bio (cont d) a CCF activity, I enjoy bicycling, crosscountry skiing, snorkeling in Hawaii or the Caribbean, and working out in the gym. I try to get back to Ohio to see family and friends twice a year. And my homeowner responsibilities require that I utilize my handyman skills. In closing, I am honored to be able to serve our CCF community through leading, in collaboration with Ray Martinez, our communal singing of worship and praise at the various meetings and events. As a Core Team Leader, I hope to contribute to the coordination and enhancement of the musical aspects of the other Core Team functions. Mark Huber Church, Catholic apologetics, anything about computers, and golfing (although it costs a lot here in OC, which is ok. I m not that good at golfing anyway.) I also enjoy being with friends, making people laugh, and helping others enjoy life... so laugh hard, life s short! I include CCF in my daily prayers (hope you do too) so pray hard, life s short! Lynne and I will be doing many things for you this year, two of which are: 1. To offer intercessory prayer on Monday nights after the speaker or activi t y. If you need prayer, grab one or both of us and we ll be happy to pray with y o u. 2. To offer a Fall and Spring retreat (watch the newsletter and/or for info). Once again, it s my pleasure to serve you this year! Attempting to pray and laugh my way all the way to Heaven... 5 4 CCF Christmas Party 2000 was a great ending to the social events of the year. Many thanks to our host, Dr. Dan Chueh, for opening his home and hosting (for a second year in a row!). Everyone enjoyed the beautiful harborside setting, the festive Christmas lights and the fabulous boat parade. Again, To m Mottl graciously lent his boat to the occasion for tours of the harbour lights for all the CCFers. Thank you CCFers for all your hard work in making this event a huge success as a fund raiser and gift drive. Recently CCF was blessed by the presence of Fr. Stan Fortuna, who came and gave an intensely spiritual talk in his distinctive Bronx accent, and shared his story of ministry and service to the poor. Vincent Gilmore CCF will hold a Home Mass Saturday, March 10, at Denise Dowli n g s House. If you haven t attended a Home Mass before, you must make a point to attend. A Home Mass is an extraordinarily intimate and spiritual event that you will never forget Mass will begin at 5:30 and will be followed by a potluck.
