11 What is Iron? Iron is about epectations. Iron: the opposite of what is epected. 3 kinds of iron Verbal Dramatic Situational

12 Verbal Iron A character sas one thing but means the opposite Also called sarcasm or being sarcastic. Eample: Awesome! Another homework packet!

13 Dramatic Iron When the reader understands more about the events of a stor than a character. You know a secret that a character doesn t. Eample: Tim s parents are proud of the A he got on the test, but we know he cheated.

14 Situational Iron When what actuall happens is the opposite of what is epected. Something about the situation is completel unepected. Eample: Bill Gates uses an Apple computer.

15 Review Something that is ironic is unepected. If unepected b a character, it s dramatic. If unepected b everone, it s situational. If it s sarcasm, it s verbal.

Media bias is the bias or perceived bias of journalists and news producers within the mass media in the selection of events and stories that are reported and how the are covered. Through the eamination of different tpes of bias and different news sources and stories ou will eplore how the media influences the wa citizens and societ interpret information. TO BEGIN: Visit Complete the Identifing Media Bias matri. (You will use this in our eploration of news sources) Liberal Media Washington Post New York Times CBS News Conservative Media The Weekl Standard Washington Times Fo News LA Times Select one conservative & one liberal media source from the internet. You need to locate the same stor from the two sources ou select. Stories must be of a political nature not sports or weather! Read the stories presented b both news sources & complete the following tasks: 1. What is the headline for each stor? 2. Identif negative terms used in the two articles.
