4 Questions 16 to 18 Read the speech below and answer the questions that follow. A very good morning to the headmaster, teachers and fellow friends. Today, in conjunction with the Environment Day celebration, I am going to give a speech entitled Pollution of the World s Oceans. Firstly, a lot of solid waste has been disposed of into the oceans by irresponsible ships and factory owners. This reckless action makes our seas polluted. Secondly, our lakes and rivers are polluted with fertilisers and pesticides from farming activities. Another source of pollution is industrial waste such as steel and iron. All of these wastes will eventually flow into the ocean and will lead to pollution. Polluted sea water has many harmful effects on the environment. Apart from killing sea creatures, people who eat them may have health problems later. It also kills tiny sea creatures that are a source of food for larger fish. This is the most important reason why we should not pollute the world s oceans. It can only bring harm to us. 16 Which word in the passage above means not worrying about the dangerous results of your actions? A Reckless C Pollute B Harmful D Killing 17 From the speech, we know that farmers. A kill tiny sea creatures B have health problems C use fertilisers and pesticides D produce waste like steel and iron 18 The statements below are true about the harmful effects of polluted sea water except. A endangering marine life B causing bad smell and odour C affecting larger fish s food source D causing health problems in those who eat seafood Questions 19 to 20 Study the brochure below and answer the questions that follow.
