Class VI M.M. : 100 Date General Instructions : This paper consists of 4 sections : Section A : Reading : 20 marks Section B : Writing : 25 marks Section C : Grammar : 20 marks Section D : Literature : 25 marks Attempt all the questions. Don t write anything on the question paper. All the answers must be correctly numbered as in the question paper and answered in the answer sheet. Ensure that questions for each section are answered together. Read each question carefully and follow the instruction. Please check that this question paper contains 08 printed pages. A.1 Read the given passage carefully. Section A (Reading : 20 marks) Jahangir, the fourth Mughal emperor who ruled India in the 17 th century, was also a renowned naturalist. As a young prince he went along with his father Akbar on his campaign in Kashmir. There he fell in love with the natural splendour of Himalayan mountains, streams, trees and flowers. This was the beginning of a lifelong love for nature. Nurjahan, his wife, encouraged his interest in nature by laying out gardens in various parts of Kashmir. Jahangir was gifted with powers of keen observation. He provided detailed description of flowers in his memoirs, Tuzuk-i-Jahangir, that form a botanical study of its own kind. Jahangir s descriptions of some of India s common flowers are simple and accurate. He nursed a pair of infant cranes for five years and took them with him on his journeys to watch their courtship habits. Keen observation fill many pages of his memoirs. He was perhaps the first person in the world to have ringed birds and fish for future observations. Read the questions and choose the correct option. (10) As a boy, I was very fond of an old soldier in our little town. He had only one leg, having lost the other leg somewhere in Assam in He used to sit on the bank of our small river and tell me about his adventures. He told me that he had run away from home to join the army when he was 18. He had experienced his first battle in the Libyan desert in the Second World War. He used to tell me dozens of war stories, but the one I liked the best was the one of his escape from a Japanese prisoner of war camp in Burma. He told me again and again how he walked 200 meters in two weeks. On the way, he was bitten on the toe by a poisonous snake and he had to cut off part of the toe in order to survive. But the wound did not heal and by the time he got to an Indian camp, it had turned septic. And the leg had to be cut off. He is apparently quite contented with his lot.
