We pushed our way right to the front so we could see more. Just then, we saw a hole open up in the wall. People started to run through from the East German side. The people on our side were kissing the East Berliners and shaking their hands. It was very emotional. Then Beethoven s Ninth Symphony started playing on massive loudspeakers from a house on the Platz All people ecome rothers it s called, which was very appropriate. Soldiers were standing around watching the events unfold. There was nothing they could do. I saw two East German soldiers exchanging hats with guards on the Western side. The East Germans were all carrying guns ut noody wanted to use them. I asked one of them if he had any ullets. He smiled, and said no. Suddenly, everyody started to applaud. We didn t know what was happening, ut the man next to us said that the mayor of East Berlin and the mayor of West Berlin were shaking hands and the wall was finally down. We stayed there dancing and singing with everyone until aout an hour ago. It was really amazing. Well, I ll finish now I m tired, and it s late. I ll e quiet ecause I don t want to wake Karen. We re going to take a trip into East Berlin later this morning, and she can e really grumpy when she s tired! I can t elieve we re leaving two days from now and going ack to work next week.
