4 Grammar 9. 1 "ikh'a/fa" Invitations 1 is a simple way of inviting someone. (In other words, in an interrogative form expresses an invitation.) eg. Why don't we have a cup of coffee? Why don't we play golf? (tc) Why don't we eat sushh When accepting the foregoing invitations, respond with the L i 5the volitional expression ("Let's do "I'll do etc). te:v\ (O) 5. Yes, let's have some coffee. fivx US L & 5 8 Yes, let's play golf. & (to -<-ft L& 5). Yes, let's eat sushi. Simply replace with U i 5" for the volitional form. eg. ff(vv) 1- ^ (V^) bi 5 163

5 9. 2 L- J: 5 & " Invitations 2 For L. i 5a volitional expression similar to "Let's do..." or "I'll do...", replace 5". eg. I go. Let's go. I read. Let's read. "l b J; 5 the interrogative form of L i 5has two different meanings. One is used when inviting someone: "Let's do..., shall we?" The other is used when offering to do something for someone: "Shall I do... for you?" Respond with L J; 5or even simplywith (or both: ^ L J: 5 ") eg. A: 5 Shall we go? B: K.7L. Li 5o or Yes/Sure, let's go. tz A: L Jfe 5 $*0 Shall we eat? B; x.k.^ or Yes/Sure, let's eat. B: B: All right. All right. When someone offers to do something for you, respond with "f"' (Yes, please). eg. A: i: L Jfc 5^0 Shall I open the window? B: Yes, please. A: 5 L b J; 5^ Shall I clean the room? B: Yes, please. 164

7 9. 4 Particle " i/c" 3 (reasons for going) The particle "hc" also indicates the purpose of a motion verb and follows a reason (either a noun or a verb) for going to a particular place.
