1 FROM THE DIRECTOR: Hello! I am so happy that you are interested in The Vagina Monologues! My name is Misha Maggi and I have the amazing opportunity to direct The Vagina Monologues with University of the Pacific this year. I have experienced The Vagina Monologues (TVM) every year it has been offered in my 6 years at Pacific and I truly believe TVM is an amazing event that can bond many people together, educate and create awareness in a community, and can raise funds for women who truly need it. Thank you for reviewing the --I hope that you will consider auditioning. I look forward to working with you! What is The Vagina Monologues? From the Official VDAY Website: THE VAGINA MONOLOGUES (performance) The award-winning play is based on V-Day Founder/playwright Eve Ensler's interviews with more than 200 women. With humor and grace the piece celebrates women s sexuality and strength. Through this play and the liberation of this one word, countless women throughout the world have taken control of their bodies and their lives. For more than twelve years, The Vagina Monologues has given voice to experiences and feelings not previously exposed in public. What parts are available this year? Introduction (3 Women) This sets the tone for the entire play, 3 women introduce what The Vagina Monologues is. Hair This is an older to middle aged woman who speaks with hilarity and seriousness on the issue of shaving. The Wear and Say Lists (3 Women) A fun piece where 3 women talk about what their vaginas would wear. The Flood Funny, sassy, serious, and thought-provoking--this is done by a middle aged to older woman about her life experiences. The Vagina Workshop The speaker has an accent that reflects that she is extremely proper (upper class) the last woman on earth that you d expect to find in a Vagina Workshop. This is a long, complex piece and the actor needs to move through each section with attention to pacing and story arc. Vagina Happy Fact Celebrating a vagina happy fact. Because He Liked to Look At It A fun piece about a women who learned to love her vagina through her experience with a man. Not-So-Happy Fact This Fact is heartbreaking and the actress should take her time and great attention with it. My Angry Vagina (Can be done with 3 women) A fierce piece about all the things vaginas have to go through. My Vagina Was My Village One of the saddest and most powerful pieces in the play about a Bosnian s woman s experience with rape. Reclaiming Cunt This actress needs to transform the word Cunt from something vile and derogatory into something powerful, sexy and delicious. They Beat the Girl out of my Boy... or so they tried (5 Women) This monologue is about five transwomen s life experiences--it is a powerful and interesting piece that will also be highlighted in the Enough is Enough campaign week on bullying. Class Credit: If you do audition and receive a part, you will be able to register for course credit and get 2 units under the Gender Studies Department for the Spring 2011 semester. Once the parts are posted, please let Misha know if you would like class credit. Our Beneficiary: We will be raising money with our performances and events for the San Joaquin Women s Center and the women and girls suffering from the Haiti earthquake aftermath. 1 of 5

2 Expectations for Participation: If you are chosen as part of TVM cast, it is expected to be a committed and organized cast member who is passionate for what we are aiming to accomplish. The 2011 cast will have approximately 4 individual rehearsals before tech week (unless more individual attention is needed), and everyone is expected to come to the 7 group rehearsals and/or complimentary events. Please look at the below calendar of events. Your individual rehearsals are catered to your schedule, and none should be missed. You also have only 2 excused absences from group rehearsals and complimentary events (tech week is mandatory). If you miss 1 individual rehearsal, or have more than 2 absences from group rehearsals, you will be asked to give your part to another cast member, 2 of 5
