1 Margherita By Rurik Seven A Mage Plays Production The Production Margherita follows the story of Joey, a lowly pizza delivery boy and his struggles with memory loss and romance. A positively cheesy rom-com full of pizza-based comedy and truly awkward romantic moments. The play follows Joey, a hapless romantic who falls in love one night while delivering Pizza. Later that night, Joey has an accident which results in him suffering from amnesia. The only thing he can remember thereafter is that he fell in love; he doesn t know who with or where it happened, all that he knows is that they wear the colour red. As the story progresses Joey meets a handful of colourful characters as he searches for the one.

2 Your Audition For your audition we would like you to prepare two comedy monologues of your choosing, although it is likely you will only perform one. They should be around 2 minutes each. You will perform these to the director and other members of the production team. You will be put in a group of four for the audition. After each of you have performed your monologues you will be called in to play some relaxed improvisational games so we can get an idea of how you work with others and how you think on your feet. The director encourages creativity during the initial rehearsal process. If you are unable to attend auditions in person but still wish to audition for the show you may send us a video audition. 3 Character List Joey (M) - The main protagonist of the story, Joey is a romanticised hapless idiot. A pizza delivery boy whose obsession with love leads him to one disaster after another. There are some deeper levels to the character, showing signs of early depression and anxiety. Joey is in every scene, so line learning may be a challenge. The actor must be comfortable performing romantic scenes, including one with another male actor. Rosa (F) - Joey s closest and only friend, Rosa is strong independent character who covers Joey s frequent mishaps around the Pizzeria in which they both work. She advises him where she can, though he rarely takes any of it. John (M) - Owner of the Pizzeria. John is an eccentric money obsessed business tycoon (though he only has the one store). A smaller role only in one scene, yet a big part to fill. The Dr (M) - An over the top Dr of modern medicine who knows very little about the inner workings of man. The Dr is an obnoxious character, who is very unaware of his surroundings. He is the husband of Ruby. Scarlet (F) - The mysterious girl behind door #1, Scarlet is a hippielike girl who lives with Sam and Will. Sometimes off in her own world, Scarlet is the first Red Character Joey meets. Sam (F) - A bit of a Tom Boy, Sam is your stereotypical stoner. A fairly light hearted character, with the occasional quip. A fairly small role.

4 Will (M) - Sam s brother and Scarlett s best friend, Will is Sam s male equivalent on the Stoner Spectrum. A slightly obnoxious character, he is quick to rip on Joey for his accident. Ruby (F) - A melodramatic Large Sausage Pizza enthusiast, Ruby is the woman behind door #2, a Nymphomaniac who s only goal is to do anything to break away from the mundane marriage she has with her Husband The Dr. The performer playing Ruby must be comfortable being involved in romantic scenes. Sancho (M) - Ruby s forbidden (and highly jealous) Spanish lover, Sancho is an old school romantic, though a little crass at times. A believer in true love and tearing out the oesophagus of anyone who would stand in its way. The performer playing Sancho must be comfortable being involved in physical scenes. Jasper (M) - The man behind door #3, Jasper is the most down to earth character in Margherita. His attention turns to Joey when he arrives at his door, taking pity on the Pizza boy and simply offering him a beer. Jasper & Joey have a romantic encounter, so the performer must be comfortable in a sexual scene with another male actor.

5 How to Apply To keep auditions running smoothly, we ask that performers are prompt and keep to their time slot. Please be aware that slots may fill up quickly, so apply soon to secure your preferred time. Please contact us using the address below, stating which time slots you can make. 6 Tech Roles We have a small number of technical and backstage roles we re looking to fill, including sound, costume, stage hands and front of house. For more technical aspects we d like previous experience in the role. 7 Final Note Rehearsals for Margherita are currently scheduled for the Ecclesall Road area of Sheffield twice per week, on Monday and Thursday evenings. Further details will be provided to successful applicants. For smaller parts, you may not be required to attend every rehearsal; the director will let you know when you are and aren t needed but you will always be more than welcome to attend and watch! There will be a tech run in the afternoon/evening of Friday 2nd November, and the show will be held at the Merlin Theatre on Saturday 3rd November, running a matinee and an evening performance.
